My Sister Is Acting Strange - Chapter 29 - Watermelon Frost
With the situation unfolding as it did, the subsequent developments were no longer related to Xia Xinya, and Li Tong was merely a pawn in the game.
Aunt Song, the Xia Family’s nanny, arrived quickly, her face filled with worry as she checked Xia Xinya thoroughly. Only after confirming that not a single hair was missing did she relax, repeatedly thanking Tang Huaijin. Seeing that he seemed injured, she insisted on taking him home to treat his wounds.
Tang Huaijin had merely bitten his tongue, which was somewhat serious, but given his robust constitution, it would heal quickly. Yet, he couldn’t resist Aunt Song’s determined insistence, and so he found himself in the Xia Family’s Bentley for the second time.
Sitting in the back seat, Xia Xinya was unusually quiet, sitting properly without speaking, which surprised Tang Huaijin.
Once they were safe, Xia Xinya realized she had messed things up again. Not only had she almost gotten herself into trouble, but she had also caused Tang Huaijin to get hurt.
Just yesterday, Tang Huaijin had coldly told her not to cause him any more trouble…
And today, she had pulled this stunt. Xia Xinya couldn’t help but feel uneasy, filled with guilt and worried that Tang Huaijin would blame her. Her glances at him were filled with apprehension.
Tang Huaijin thought about it; although Xia Xinya was usually arrogant and bossy, using her family’s influence to bully this person and tease that one, she was ultimately a somewhat naive and immature girl. It was normal for her to be scared in such situations.
So, his voice softened as he asked, “What’s wrong? Were you frightened?”
Hearing that he wasn’t angry and was speaking kindly to her, Xia Xinya felt even guiltier. She shook her head, biting her lip as she whispered, “I’m sorry…”
Did he hear that right? Xia Xinya actually apologized? Tang Huaijin’s expression was one of disbelief, asking incredulously, “What did you say?”
Xia Xinya pouted, thinking he was deliberately mocking her, and felt a bit aggrieved. Coupled with the fright she had experienced today, various complex emotions intertwined in her heart, making her feel extremely sad, her eyes turning slightly red.
Seeing this, Tang Huaijin felt awkward. He wasn’t used to Xia Xinya being like this. He rubbed his nose and said softly, “I didn’t hear you clearly just now. Don’t be upset. If you think about it, you’re a victim in this too. You don’t need to apologize for this. I don’t blame you.”
Every parent knows that when a child feels wronged, they might not cry immediately, but once comforted, those feelings of grievance can burst forth.
Xia Xinya was in such a situation. Being comforted by Tang Huaijin, the tears in her eyes flowed like a flood breaking through a dam, uncontrollably streaming down as she sobbed, “It’s all my fault, but it’s because I wanted to tell you that the person spreading rumors about you wasn’t me, sob.”
Tang Huaijin felt even more troubled. He had gotten into a fight for no reason and now had to comfort this little girl. He said helplessly, “It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have accused you. Please stop crying, okay?”
After comforting her for a while, Xia Xinya gradually stopped crying. She then felt embarrassed about crying in front of Tang Huaijin, lowering her head, not wanting him to see her tear-streaked face.
Seeing her calm down, Tang Huaijin also breathed a sigh of relief, naturally not wanting to provoke her further.
Aunt Song, who had sensed the tension between the two from the beginning, remained silent throughout the journey, occasionally observing their expressions through the rearview mirror. Now, she looked at Tang Huaijin with some surprise but said nothing.
The Bentley drove into the elevated villa area, where Aunt Song parked at the gate and led the two inside, while the female bodyguard in the villa’s pavilion took care of parking the car in the garage.
Aunt Song led them into the villa, instructing Xia Xinya to entertain Tang Huaijin while she went to call the doctor.
Xia Xinya responded sullenly, telling Tang Huaijin, “You don’t need to take off your shoes; there aren’t any men’s slippers at home.”
Tang Huaijin nodded, following Xia Xinya into the living room. To be honest, it was his first time seeing such a luxurious villa.
The floor was made of solid wood, specifically teak, which looked both elegant and high-end. Because the villa was built on elevated ground, the living room had a huge floor-to-ceiling window that offered a view of the entire city. The decor was simple, with a black leather sofa paired with a rosewood coffee table, and a piano in the corner, adding a touch of classical charm to the opulent room.
The living room wasn’t cluttered, but the arrangement of the furniture had a sense of perfect harmony, giving a natural feeling, as if the furniture was meant to be placed there.
Xia Xinya naturally led Tang Huaijin to sit on the sofa, reluctantly fetched the tea set, and brewed tea for him, handing it over with a slightly awkward expression, saying, “Here, green tea. I don’t brew as well as Yuerou, so don’t be picky.”
Despite her words, Tang Huaijin knew that if he showed any sign of disdain, Xia Xinya would definitely blow up.
Xia Xinya looked quite pretty when she was quietly brewing tea, and her technique was quite skilled. Tang Huaijin accepted the tea, softly thanked her, and placed it on the coffee table.
The two sat on the sofa without speaking, but Xia Xinya occasionally stole glances at Tang Huaijin. Seeing him not touching the tea for a long time, she pouted, her expression souring, and asked angrily, “Are you still not forgiving me?”
Tang Huaijin was baffled by Xia Xinya’s sudden outburst, unsure of what he had done to provoke her.
Xia Xinya pointed at the green tea on the table, her expression slightly aggrieved, asking indignantly, “Otherwise, why aren’t you drinking the tea I brewed for you? This is the first time I’ve brewed tea for a guy. Do you think I did a bad job? Should I pour it out?” With that, she reached to take the tea away.
Tang Huaijin quickly grabbed her hand, stopping her, and said with a chuckle, “Use your brain, will you? My tongue is still sore, and this tea is hot. Are you trying to kill me?”
Xia Xinya realized she had made a fool of herself, her face turning red, and she retorted angrily, “Why didn’t you tell me sooner!”
Tang Huaijin rolled his eyes in exasperation, having just praised her in his mind, only to have it backfire.
This kid is great except for her mouth.
While brewing tea for Tang Huaijin, Xia Xinya didn’t forget to grab herself a bottle of cola. Now, with her face flushed, she lowered her head, sipping through a straw, seemingly venting her anger at Tang Huaijin on the cola.
Tang Huaijin casually teased, “Drinking too much soda, no wonder your brain isn’t sharp.”
Xia Xinya released the straw, glaring at Tang Huaijin, “Mind your own business! Who are you calling brainless…” Having just gulped down cola and eager to bicker with Tang Huaijin, Xia Xinya suddenly let out an unladylike burp, her face turning beet red with embarrassment.
That burp was a catastrophic blow to Xia Xinya, who valued her dignity above all else.
Tang Huaijin burst into laughter, but inadvertently tugged at his tongue wound, causing him to wince in pain, his face contorting mid-laugh.
Seeing Tang Huaijin’s awkward expression, Xia Xinya no longer felt embarrassed, covering her mouth as she giggled.
Aunt Song entered with a small bag of medicine, noticing the harmonious atmosphere between the two, her expression slightly peculiar. She teasingly looked at Xia Xinya, saying, “Miss, I was worried you’d be at odds with Tang, so I hurried back with the medicine. Seems like I came at the wrong time, huh? Did I interrupt?”
Xia Xinya blushed furiously at the teasing, protesting, “Aunt Song, what are you talking about? Who wants to deal with that annoying guy?”
Aunt Song looked at Xia Xinya with affection, speaking gently, “Miss, you shouldn’t say that. If it weren’t for Tang today, who knows what trouble you might have faced.” Her eyes flashed with a hint of coldness, “But don’t worry, this won’t end here. The Xia Family won’t let you suffer.”
“Aunt Song…” With family around, Xia Xinya became pitifully aggrieved, as if she might cry.
“Alright.” Aunt Song lovingly patted Xia Xinya’s head, then turned to Tang Huaijin, expressing gratitude, “We’re really grateful to you today, Tang. Auntie truly wants to thank you.”
“Auntie, you’re too kind. Xinya and I are friends, so I wouldn’t just stand by.” Tang Huaijin felt awkward calling her Xinya, but his words were sincere. He couldn’t just watch Xia Xinya take that hit.
Aunt Song, being in her forties and quite perceptive, could see the sincerity and naturalness in Tang Huaijin’s words. Her gaze softened with appreciation as she said, “Rest assured, when Madam returns, she’ll thank you properly.” Then she turned to Xia Xinya, “I asked the doctor earlier and got these medicines. You should help Tang apply them, since he got hurt because of you.”
“Oh…” Xia Xinya responded hesitantly, taking the small bag of medicine, hesitating for a moment before glancing at Tang Huaijin and saying irritably, “Follow me.”
If Aunt Song weren’t present, Tang Huaijin would have turned and left, but he had no choice but to follow Xia Xinya.
In the living room, Aunt Song watched the backs of the young boy and girl ascending the stairs, shaking her head gently with a smile.
Xia Xinya stopped at a bedroom door, hesitating before turning to Tang Huaijin with a fierce expression, “You can’t come in yet.”
Tang Huaijin glanced at her but said nothing.
Only then did Xia Xinya open the door and enter, taking a moment before allowing Tang Huaijin inside.
The girl’s pink blanket was bunched up at the head of the bed, but Tang Huaijin still noticed the toy pillow’s bunny ears peeking out from the covers.
Seeing the amusement in his eyes, Xia Xinya knew he had noticed, and although her face reddened, she didn’t explode. After all, she had embarrassed herself in front of Tang Huaijin too many times, gradually building a resistance. She merely huffed, “Sit on the edge, don’t go further.”
Tang Huaijin didn’t indulge her, comfortably settling onto the soft bed, causing the mattress to dip slightly.
Xia Xinya glared at him in annoyance but said nothing, taking out the watermelon frost from the medicine bag to apply to Tang Huaijin’s wound.
Tang Huaijin’s pupils contracted at the sight of the familiar medicine bottle, retreating several steps, waving his hand to refuse, “I don’t use that stuff.”
“Why?!” Xia Xinya asked, displeased.
“I can’t stand the smell.” Tang Huaijin looked at the watermelon frost in her hand with extreme distaste.
“Stop whining, hurry up!” Xia Xinya didn’t care about his complaints. As the Xia Family’s young lady, she had never served anyone, and Tang Huaijin was being difficult.
Tang Huaijin hesitated for a long time, seeing Xia Xinya’s determined demeanor, he frowned, resignedly opening his mouth to reveal the wound on his tongue.
Tang Huaijin’s pink tongue had a large area of blood-red injured tissue next to it, making Xia Xinya’s heart skip a beat. She looked at him with a bit of sympathy and unconsciously lightened her touch.
The watermelon frost was a powder with a small funnel on top. Just the smell of it approaching made Tang Huaijin feel nauseous. When he saw Xia Xinya’s small hand tremble slightly, he felt a shiver down his spine and quickly pulled his head back, asking, “Is it done? This smell is disgusting.”
Xia Xinya looked at the untouched watermelon frost in her hand and angrily said, “Done? I haven’t even applied it yet!”
“I’m not doing this. My body heals quickly, and this small wound will be fine soon,” Tang Huaijin protested. He hadn’t planned on using any medicine for this small injury and now he definitely didn’t want to endure this torment.
“No, you have to apply it,” Xia Xinya stubbornly insisted.
But Tang Huaijin refused to cooperate, no matter what, he wouldn’t open his mouth.
Seeing this, Xia Xinya became anxious. She held the small bottle of watermelon frost in one hand and tried to grab Tang Huaijin’s chin with the other.
Tang Huaijin wasn’t a fool. He dodged Xia Xinya’s hand nimbly, shaking his head to avoid her grasp.
Xia Xinya gritted her teeth and suddenly pounced on Tang Huaijin, pinning him down on the bed. Taking advantage of his momentary distraction, she grabbed his chin and poured the watermelon frost into his mouth.
However, the action was too intense, and the soft plastic funnel had fallen off at some point. Most of the bottle of watermelon frost ended up directly in Tang Huaijin’s mouth.
Tang Huaijin was momentarily stunned. He hadn’t expected Xia Xinya to be so bold.
It wasn’t common for a girl to dare to pin a boy down on a bed in a secluded environment, and those who did usually had a lot of nerve.
In that moment of distraction, the pungent and nauseating smell instantly hit his brain, and the powdery substance in his mouth made his nose itch uncontrollably. He sneezed, spraying a cloud of powder all over Xia Xinya’s face.
Xia Xinya realized she might have made a mistake and was stunned for a moment, only to be covered in a layer of watermelon frost.
She touched the thin layer of powder on her face and, realizing what had happened, looked at Tang Huaijin who was coughing non-stop. Angrily, she said, “Are you crazy?”
Seeing that Tang Huaijin ignored her and even tried to scrape the watermelon frost out of his mouth, Xia Xinya couldn’t stand it anymore. She reached out to cover his mouth, and when he continued to struggle, she pressed her entire body weight onto him.
“Don’t spit it out!”
Tang Huaijin’s eyes were watering from the irritation. Seeing that Xia Xinya was relentless, he couldn’t take it anymore and gave her a sharp smack on her small bottom.
Xia Xinya’s body trembled from the hit, her face turned red, but she gritted her teeth and continued to cover Tang Huaijin’s mouth.
Tang Huaijin tried to hit her a few more times, but no matter how hard he tried, Xia Xinya’s soft body remained firmly on top of him, her hand covering his mouth.
After struggling for a while, the watermelon frost in Tang Huaijin’s mouth began to dissolve, and he resigned himself to his fate, his hand resting lightly on her firm bottom.
Xia Xinya felt a strange sensation from Tang Huaijin’s hand. Seeing that he had stopped struggling, she quickly jumped off him. Although her body felt weak and she could barely stand, her eyes still showed a triumphant smile.
Tang Huaijin sat up from the bed, his face dark, and softly said, “How do you want to die?”
“Who told you to spray it all over my face?” In her own home, Xia Xinya seemed to have gained some confidence and stared back at Tang Huaijin defiantly.
That statement was quite off, young lady.
But this time, Xia Xinya’s intelligence was actually online. No matter what, Tang Huaijin couldn’t really do anything to her in her own home. With a helpless expression, he said, “Fine, I give up. I realize that as long as you’re around, I’ll always be unlucky. I think I’ll just avoid you from now on. Aren’t you always against me because of Bai Yuerou? Didn’t I say I’d only be her deskmate for one day and then give her back to you?”
“I don’t need your charity!” Seeing him act like he wanted to get rid of her as if she were a nuisance, Xia Xinya felt uncomfortable and coldly said, “I’ll compete with you fairly. Don’t think you’ll definitely score better than me.”
“Whatever…” Tang Huaijin actually wasn’t sure if being Bai Yuerou’s deskmate for one day would be recognized by the system, so he was happy to see her like this.
Compete fairly with him? Xia Xinya’s intelligence was offline again.
After applying the medicine, Xia Xinya kicked him out of her room. Tang Huaijin repeatedly refused Aunt Song’s invitation to stay for dinner and was driven back by the Xia Family’s driver. For some reason, Xia Xinya remained sullen and only gave a cold hum when saying goodbye.
