My Sister Is Acting Strange - Chapter 15 - Master Level Book Writing
“Task: Teach Xia Xinya a lesson.”
“Task Reward: Book Writing Experience Knowledge (Master Level).”
“Task Completed!”
Tang Huaijin hadn’t just randomly decided to have Xia Xinya move books; he had planned it all along. When he received the task completion notification, he smiled with satisfaction. It seemed Xia Xinya was indeed afraid of him revealing those books to Bai Yuerou.
A surge of unfamiliar memories flooded Tang Huaijin’s mind. He closed his eyes and took a moment to absorb them. It felt like he could now see beyond what authors intended to express, recognizing their unique rhetorical styles and writing habits. Reflecting on his own web novels, what he once thought was decent now seemed utterly inadequate.
Even though he was already familiar with the system’s rewards, Tang Huaijin couldn’t help but feel a wave of astonishment each time this sensation occurred.
After returning home and changing clothes, Tang Huaijin headed out again, taking a taxi to his sister’s workplace.
Tang Yaoyao had majored in the Chinese Department in college and now worked in the Editorial Department of a publishing house.
The receptionist recognized him and, after having him sign in, cheerfully let him upstairs.
Since Tang Huaijin often came to pick up Tang Yaoyao, the aunties and uncles in the Editorial Department were familiar with him. His politeness and charming looks made him quite popular. As he entered Editorial Department Three, several familiar faces greeted him warmly.
“Here to pick up Yaoyao again, Huaijin?”
“You’re looking more handsome, Huaijin.”
Tang Huaijin responded with polite smiles as he made his way to his sister’s desk.
His sister was engrossed in her work, typing away on the keyboard. Hearing the commotion, she looked up, pleasantly surprised. “Huaijin? What brings you here?”
Han Yaoyao, sitting at the desk to his sister’s right, peeked over and greeted him with a grin. “Huaijin, remember me?”
“Hello, Miss,” Tang Huaijin replied with a smile, greeting Han Yaoyao before pulling up a chair next to his sister. “You mentioned you were working late today. I had nothing to do at home, so I thought I’d come keep you company.”
An auntie at a nearby desk looked him over and remarked, “Yaoyao, has Huaijin grown taller again? He wasn’t this tall last time I saw him. Kids these days grow so fast. My son, too-clothes from last year don’t fit anymore.”
“Yes, boys should grow tall,” Tang Yaoyao beamed with pride. Such conversations always lifted her spirits, giving her a sense of parental satisfaction and pride.
Watching his sister’s radiant smile, Tang Huaijin knew exactly what she was thinking and couldn’t help but roll his eyes. He sat down beside her. “What are you working on? Maybe I can help, so you can finish early. I’m starving.”
The report was an assignment from that annoying supervisor, and Tang Yaoyao was feeling a bit stressed. She shifted aside to let him see the screen, handing him a pack of biscuits with a doting smile. “I can handle this myself. It’s almost done, just needs some tweaking. Have a snack to tide you over.”
Tang Huaijin squeezed in closer, glancing over the screen. The document was a topic planning report, essentially justifying the publication of a book, analyzing similar books in the market, and projecting market expectations.
His sister’s writing was quite good-precise and fluent. However, with master-level book writing experience, Tang Huaijin could spot a dozen areas for improvement.
He noticed his sister’s empty cup and asked, “Sis, I’m thirsty.”
Tang Yaoyao patted his head, stood up, and smiled. “I’ll get you some water.”
While she was away, Tang Huaijin opened a new document, copied the content over, and began making revisions.
Han Yaoyao, peering over from her desk, clicked her tongue in amazement. “Huaijin, you’re helping your sister with her work?”
Without looking up, Tang Huaijin’s fingers flew over the keyboard, swiftly correcting several inappropriate word choices. He added a concluding paragraph where his sister had left off.
When Tang Yaoyao returned with the water, she saw Han Yaoyao watching Tang Huaijin intently and curiously asked, “Yaoyao, what are you doing?”
“Nothing much, just watching your brother edit your draft,” Han Yaoyao replied, her eyes fixed on Tang Huaijin’s focused profile. “Life is so unfair.”
Hearing that Tang Huaijin was editing her draft, Tang Yaoyao wasn’t worried. Huaijin was mature beyond his years. She even felt a sense of pride and teased, “Jealous, aren’t you?”
After observing Tang Huaijin for a while, Han Yaoyao suddenly turned to Tang Yaoyao, winking suggestively. “Yaoyao, there’s a saying about keeping things within the family. Since we’re such good friends, how about setting Huaijin up with…”
Tang Yaoyao raised an eyebrow, her peach blossom eyes glaring at her. Seeing that Tang Huaijin wasn’t paying attention, she whispered, “Han Yaoyao, are you dreaming? Look at your age, and then look at Huaijin’s.”
Han Yaoyao shrank back under her gaze but protested, “Tang Yaoyao, what are you thinking? I was talking about my cousin. Not everyone is like you, with your brother complex.”
Tang Yaoyao blushed at the accusation, giving her a light glare. She walked over to Tang Huaijin, bending down to speak softly, “Huaijin, what are you up to?”
Tang Huaijin had just finished typing the last word. He flexed his wrist and turned to his sister, smiling with squinted eyes. “I’ve revised it for you. Let’s go.”
“You’re such a troublemaker,” Tang Yaoyao sighed, giving him a playful eye roll. She sat down and nudged him aside, taking the mouse to review the document.
After a quick scan, Tang Yaoyao’s eyes widened. She read the entire document carefully.
The areas she had been unsure about were now perfectly addressed. She couldn’t find a single flaw in the entire piece. The language was elegant, and the writing flowed beautifully.
The conclusion, always her weak point, was now concise yet emotionally resonant, thanks to Huaijin’s refined and succinct writing. It was highly persuasive.
Tang Yaoyao felt that if she were the supervisor, she would definitely approve this report.
Her eyes sparkled with delight as she looked at Tang Huaijin. “Huaijin, did you write this?!”
“Who else?” Tang Huaijin was also a bit surprised. This master-level writing experience was truly impressive, making writing feel effortlessly satisfying.
“You’re amazing!” More than the article itself, Tang Huaijin’s exceptional writing skills filled Tang Yaoyao with joy. She pulled him into a hug, ruffling his hair affectionately.
“Sis… people are watching.” Though the affection was comforting, being hugged so intimately by his sister in public made him a bit embarrassed.
“Who cares? You’re my brother. What’s wrong with a hug?” She released him with a grin, printing out the document.
“You wait downstairs. I’ll submit this to the supervisor, and then we can head home.”
Tang Huaijin obediently slung his sister’s bag over his shoulder and made his way downstairs.
…
Tang Yaoyao knocked on the supervisor’s office door. Hearing a curt “Come in,” she pushed the door open, forcing a smile. “Supervisor Zhu, I’ve finished the report you requested.”
Supervisor Zhu had been admiring herself in the mirror and was annoyed at being interrupted. Her plump face, smeared with makeup, showed displeasure as she sat wedged in her chair. She gave a dismissive nod. “Leave it there.”
Suppressing her irritation, Tang Yaoyao handed over the report.
Supervisor Zhu’s stubby fingers, resembling pig’s trotters, grasped the document as she began to read.
Despite her questionable character, Zhu Meiyu had the skills to hold her position as supervisor. After a careful read, her narrow eyes narrowed further in surprise. “You wrote this?”
“Yes,” Tang Yaoyao replied, avoiding looking at her chubby face.
Supervisor Zhu scrutinized the report a bit longer, unable to find any faults. Her mood soured further, and she waved Tang Yaoyao off impatiently. “Fine, fine, you can go.”
Tang Yaoyao didn’t bother with pleasantries, quickly leaving the office, leaving Supervisor Zhu to glare at her with envy.
