My Roommate Lover - Chapter 19 - First Encounter with the Beautiful Campus Belle
With the business booming, it was time to redo the plaque and show off a bit. Originally, Zhang Xixi wanted to surprise Tang Ziyu, but as school let out, there was still no sign of her, which made Xixi a bit anxious. Where could she be? Surely she hasn’t gone off with a boyfriend to a hotel, has she? Unable to wait any longer, Xixi dialed Ziyu’s number: “Tang Ziyu, where are you? Why haven’t you come over yet?”
Ziyu replied, “We have an open class tonight with Doctor Bai from the First People’s Hospital. He’s my favorite doctor-young, accomplished, and quite charming. Why don’t you come over and listen to his lecture?”
“What Doctor Bai? Stop dreaming and get over here.”
“Bai Shengkai, he just graduated from university and already obtained his Chief Physician Qualification Certificate. He’s published many papers in provincial medical journals. I’ll talk to you after class.”
“Hey, hey…”
What a typical case of prioritizing romance over friendship. Xixi was quite annoyed, muttering to herself before shouting, “Jia-Ge, go get Tang Ziyu back here. If I don’t keep an eye on her, she’ll run off with a man.”
Jia Simiao chuckled, “She’s an adult now, capable of making her own decisions. There’s no need for that.”
Xixi insisted, “Normally, there wouldn’t be a need, but we just got the shop today, and she’s not coming over. It’s frustrating.”
Indeed, they had spent the afternoon tidying up the shop, and it looked particularly neat and fresh, with the air filled with the fragrance of flowers. Even Simiao felt a sense of accomplishment. People have this mentality-when a child has a toy and sees someone approaching, they want to show it off. Adults are no different; it’s a satisfaction of vanity.
Seeing Simiao unmoved, Xixi teased, “The medical university has plenty of beauties. Tang Ziyu’s classmate is a super campus belle named Ye Lanqiu, and she’s stunning. If you go, you might run into her.”
“Ye Lanqiu? Do you know her?”
“I’ve seen her a couple of times. Why, are you interested in her? Then you’d better find Tang Ziyu; she knows more about Ye Lanqiu.”
“I’ll ask around.”
Beast! Xixi widened her eyes and tossed a bottle of mineral water aside. When asked to go, he wouldn’t, but mention a campus belle, and he’s all ears. Nine out of ten men are lecherous, and the tenth is a creep-it’s true. Looks like when choosing a boyfriend in the future, Xixi must be cautious. Those fickle, unfaithful, and two-timing men should all be avoided.
Just like in “The Lion Roars1,” she thought, “You must be good to me alone, pamper me, never deceive me, fulfill every promise you make, and every word you say must be sincere. Don’t lie to me or scold me; care for me. When others bully me, you must be the first to stand up for me. When I’m happy, you should be happy with me. When I’m unhappy, you should cheer me up…”
She couldn’t be as infatuated as her sister, who insisted on marrying a man just because he treated her once. How could that be? However, Xixi was curious about what kind of outstanding man her sister had fallen for. She must find out someday.
Walking along, Simiao couldn’t help but marvel at how great it was to have wealth and power. At the entrance of the medical university, it was like a luxury car exhibition-Mercedes, Ferrari, Porsche, BMW… Occasionally, he saw cute, well-dressed girls getting into cars, which then sped off into the distance.
It was his first time stepping into the medical university, and just as Xixi said, there were indeed many beauties. Unfortunately, he didn’t have a car. If he were leaning against a Ferrari with a bouquet of flowers, he would surely attract many girls’ attention.
Xixi hadn’t mentioned which classroom Ziyu was in. With such an open class, even she didn’t know. However, since Bai Shengkai was giving a lecture, asking any female student should suffice. It wasn’t that Simiao didn’t want to ask the guys; Xixi had said Bai Shengkai was quite the charmer, so he couldn’t be attracting the boys, right?
At that moment, a girl walked out from the campus. Yes, a girl. Among so many girls, she was the only one walking alone, making her stand out with an air of solitary elegance, like a crane among chickens.
Her attire was simple-a faded shirt, light blue jeans, and sneakers. Her hair was casually tied up, with a strand gently falling over her forehead. She held a few books to her chest, her eyebrows delicate and curved, her skin fair and rosy, her lips as tender as rose petals. Yet, there was a faint melancholy in her eyes, as if she harbored some secret sorrow.
Simiao’s eyes lit up-now that’s a beauty.
If one were to marry, it should be someone like her… Suddenly, a black Audi A8 zoomed by, performing a flashy 360-degree spin, pushing Simiao into the girl’s arms. She tried to step back, but the crowd blocked her path, leaving her no room to retreat.
Kind-hearted, she feared that stepping away might cause Simiao to fall, so she dropped her books and caught him. In that moment, the soft sensation from her embrace almost made Simiao’s soul leave his body. Unfortunately, the feeling didn’t last long, as a dashing young man in a beige suit jumped out of the car, his voice pulling Simiao back to reality.
“Hey, who are you? Get lost.”
The young man glared at Simiao, and if it weren’t for the beauty, he might have swung a fist to knock Simiao’s teeth out. To say the least, his ability to change expressions was impressive. Looking at the beauty, he immediately flashed a smile: “Lanqiu, did this brute hurt you? What do you want for lunch? I’ll take you out.”
Ye Lanqiu frowned, “Fu Yi, I’ve already told you, please stop bothering me.”
Fu Yi pointed at Simiao, “Is it because of him?”
Lanqiu replied, “It has nothing to do with him.”
Fu Yi asked Simiao, “What’s your name, kid?”
“Jia Simiao.”
“You’ve got guts. I’ll count to three, and you better disappear from my sight.”
Simiao was annoyed. Who are you? Jealous of my looks, you almost hit me with your car. Even if you didn’t hit me, damaging the flowers and grass, scuffing the pavement, that’s still a crime. Besides, this is between you and that “basketball2” girl; what does it have to do with me? He glanced at Lanqiu, puzzled by her peculiar name-basketball, Lanqiu… Wait, could she be Ye Lanqiu? Simiao’s heart skipped a beat. He had read about Ye Heluo’s suicide in the papers and knew his daughter was named Ye Lanqiu, studying at Nanjiang Medical University, but he hadn’t seen any photos or met her.
It must be her, definitely her, judging by her demeanor, looks, and figure! Simiao’s heart was filled with a complex mix of emotions, and he stepped in front of Lanqiu, sneering, “Go ahead, count.”
“Oh? Someone’s not afraid to die.”
Fu Yi was a senior at Nanjiang Medical University and a member of the basketball team. He often practiced karate at the dojo and was quite skilled. Seeing Simiao’s slender build and fair complexion, he thought, “This is a typical kept man.” If he didn’t beat him up, who would he beat? His presence alone could intimidate him.
Fu Yi stared at Simiao, shouting, “One, two…”
“Three!” Simiao helped him finish the count, then swiftly kicked Fu Yi in the groin. Fu Yi doubled over in pain, and Simiao grabbed his hair, elbowing him hard in the back. At the same time, he kneed him in the chest.
Releasing his grip, Fu Yi collapsed to the ground, retching uncontrollably, unable to get up.
Simiao admitted his actions were harsh, but it wasn’t his fault. You can insult me, even humiliate me, dance provocatively in front of me-I can tolerate all that. But you can’t bully Ye Lanqiu. Romantic feelings should be mutual, and clearly, Lanqiu wasn’t interested in you. Trying to force this tender fruit is futile.
Simiao’s heart was filled with guilt toward Lanqiu. If he didn’t teach Fu Yi a lesson, he’d be enabling him.
Dusting off his hands, Simiao acted as if he had done something unrelated to him, turning to extend his hand to Lanqiu, sincerely saying, “Hello, I’m Jia Simiao-Jia as in Jia Baoyu3, Simiao as in Sun Simiao. I… Hey, where are you going?”
Lanqiu didn’t even glance at Simiao, turning away without a word. She left without a trace, not even a wisp of cloud.
