My Roommate Lover - Chapter 1 - Your First Time Was Given to Me
Ye Lanqiu, what kind of girl is she?
Seated on the airplane, Jia Simiao stared blankly ahead, her name lingering in his mind.
It had been over a year since he last returned to Nanjiang City. Before heading to America, he had entrusted the ancestral house of Jia Family to Xiao Ya. Now, with only a few coins left in his pocket, he planned to collect some rent or perhaps borrow some money from Xiao Ya to start a small business, at least enough to make ends meet.
Thud! A book was tossed over, hitting Jia Simiao and snapping him out of his reverie.
It was a beautiful woman, tall and slender, with a fluffy ponytail and a delicate oval face. She wore a long T-shirt that just covered her shorts, exuding a youthful and vibrant aura, like the girl next door-pure and charming. However, her gaze was unfriendly, glaring at him intensely.
Nowadays, girls are really something. Do they really need to use such a method to strike up a conversation just because they see a handsome guy? Jia Simiao was quite confident in his appearance-standing at 1.85 meters, with a well-proportioned build and a handsome face, he often turned heads on the street. Having been through many ups and downs, Jia Simiao had become much more composed. He picked up the book and greeted her amicably, “Hello, this ‘Nursing Exam Survival Kit’ you’re reading, are you studying to be a nurse?”
She retorted disdainfully, “What’s it to you? If you keep staring at me like that, do you believe I won’t scream harassment?”
“Staring at you?” Jia Simiao finally realized there was a misunderstanding. He had been staring blankly ahead, lost in thought, not at her. But this girl was quite unreasonable-how could just looking be considered harassment? With his dashing looks and gentlemanly demeanor, he didn’t need to make advances on others. He was the kind of man who tied a belt around his underwear before leaving the house, just to avoid being harassed himself.
She scoffed, “You think you’re handsome?”
Arguing with a madman is foolish; arguing with a fool is madness; arguing with a woman is both mad and foolish. Jia Simiao didn’t want to lose his composure. She was probably just jealous, perhaps because her boyfriend wasn’t as handsome as him. He shrugged and decided to stay silent.
“What kind of attitude is that?” The beauty stood up, pointing at Jia Simiao angrily, “Let me tell you, there’s not a single good man out there. Why aren’t you saying anything? Feeling guilty?”
Was she just dumped by a man? Jia Simiao frowned, “Miss, are you experiencing premature menopause? I haven’t done anything to you, so why am I not a good person?”
She exclaimed, “You haven’t? What were your eyes doing then?”
What were they doing? Even if I ogled you a hundred times, is that a crime? As far as I know, there’s no law in the Huaxia Kingdom that says using your eyes to harass someone is punishable.
Jia Simiao was about to say more when suddenly a stewardess rushed over, speaking urgently, “Excuse me, everyone. There’s a passenger in first class having a heart attack. Is there a doctor or someone with nursing experience on board?”
“I’ll go.”
“I’ll go.”
Jia Simiao and the beauty spoke almost simultaneously and rushed forward. Bam! They collided, but being a man, Jia Simiao’s strength was greater, and he accidentally knocked the beauty back into her seat. However, time was of the essence, and he couldn’t worry about that now. Following the stewardess, he hurried to first class, where an elderly man lay motionless in his seat.
Jia Simiao shouted, “Everyone, step back and give him some air.”
A bespectacled middle-aged man demanded, “Who are you?”
The stewardess replied, “He’s a doctor.”
The middle-aged man said, “A doctor? Do you have a Physician Qualification Certificate and a Physician Practice License? If not…”
“Move aside.”
Is certification that important right now? At a time like this, who cares about that? Jia Simiao was annoyed, pushing him aside and quickly checking the elderly man’s pulse. It had stopped. This was serious.
Medically speaking, if a person’s heart stops for more than five minutes, brain death is likely, though few can last beyond three minutes. Emergency measures like continuous chest compressions could extend that time.
The tall beauty joined him, helping to lay the elderly man flat. Jia Simiao’s repeated chest thumps had no effect, so he switched to massage. Suddenly, the elderly man groaned, showing signs of life, though his heartbeat remained weak and could stop again at any moment.
Jia Simiao quickly retrieved a silver needle, while the beauty swiftly disinfected it. He inserted the needle into the Neiguan Point1, directing it towards the heart, and gently manipulated it in sync with the man’s breathing.
After about thirty minutes, Jia Simiao moved to the Yamen Point2, inserting the needle to a depth of eight fen3, using a balanced technique without leaving the needle in. This stabilized the man’s breathing, enhancing his heart’s contraction, adjusting his rhythm, and preventing another cardiac arrest.
Finally, Jia Simiao sat down, sweat trickling down his forehead, breathing slightly heavily, “Elder, you have coronary heart disease and primary cardiac arrest. Why don’t you carry some medication with you?”
The elderly man chuckled, “Thank you so much. I was traveling abroad for business and ran out of medication. I planned to buy more after landing, but who would’ve thought… I’m really grateful to you.”
“I have some medicine with me. Let me get it for you.”
Earlier, the situation was too urgent for Jia Simiao to fetch his pharmaceutical case. He returned to the economy class, retrieving a small, exquisite purple sandalwood case from the overhead compartment. Unlike other cases with locks, this one had a skull latch. Pressing the skull, the case opened automatically, revealing layers with small mechanisms. A gentle press released a small compartment.
Jia Simiao took out a few pills, handing them to the elderly man, “Elder, at your age, you can’t ignore this condition. It’s fortunate you met me; otherwise, your life might have ended here. Keep these pills with you, and take one if you feel unwell.”
The bespectacled man interjected, “Do you know who you’re talking to? Let me tell you, he is…”
“Enough, I think this young man is quite right. Haha, this was my mistake.” The elderly man waved his hand, interrupting the bespectacled man, then turned to Jia Simiao, smiling, “You’re so young yet so skilled in medicine. Remarkable, truly remarkable.”
Jia Simiao chuckled, “I’m just an unqualified barefoot doctor4.”
The elderly man paused, then laughed, “Unqualified? Oh, by the way, I didn’t catch your name.”
“Jia Simiao.”
“Jia Simiao?” The elderly man laughed heartily, “So you’re the fake Sun Simiao5? That’s an interesting name. Who gave it to you?”
“My grandfather.”
“Then your grandfather must be quite an extraordinary person.”
“He’s just a recluse, living in the mountains, indifferent to worldly affairs.”
After chatting a bit more with the elderly man, Jia Simiao politely declined his invitation and returned to the economy class.
Before he could sit down, the tall beauty approached, extending her hand with a smile, “I really didn’t expect it. Your medical skills are impressive, better than any doctor I’ve seen. My name is Tang Ziyu. Let’s be friends.”
Beauty admires hero, indeed!
Jia Simiao gently shook her hand, smiling, “You’re quite a competent little nurse. Without your help earlier, it wouldn’t have gone so smoothly.”
“Really? I’m still in school.”
Tang Ziyu was delighted, giggling, “To be honest, I just got my Nurse Qualification Certificate. This was my first time assisting a doctor in saving a patient.”
“So I should feel honored, right? Your first time was given to me.”
“My first time to you… Oh, stop it.”
While shaking hands, Tang Ziyu felt something hard and noticed a blue ring on Jia Simiao’s finger, with patterns resembling flowing water inside. It was quite special, so she asked, “Hey, your ring looks really nice.”
“Just street vendor goods, something I wear for fun.”
Jia Simiao smiled, keeping the truth to himself. This ring was no ordinary trinket; it was the water ring his grandfather had given him, a family heirloom of the Jia Family, like the “River Medical Manual.” If someone had a wound, the water ring could heal it quickly.
Traveling with a beautiful companion was delightful. Unfortunately, before Jia Simiao and Tang Ziyu could chat more, the plane landed at Nanjiang City’s airport.
Watching Tang Ziyu’s departing figure, Jia Simiao suddenly realized he had forgotten to ask for her phone number or contact information. Even if it was just to make a friend, it would have been nice. Or perhaps borrow a few hundred yuan to tide over. Alas, his pockets were empty.
A penny can indeed defeat a hero!
Jia Simiao chuckled wryly, opting for the bus instead of a taxi.
