My Left Eye Can See Through Everything - Chapter 78 - Exchange Conference
“Rest assured, this matter is known only to heaven, earth, you, and me. As long as you don’t speak and I don’t speak, who will know?”
“When the time comes, keep it clean, and after it’s done, find a place to lay low for a few days.”
Yu Jinlong’s words made perfect sense.
Since this sort of thing had been done before, Scar quickly nodded in agreement.
After all, this was 1 million. Bringing along two people, discussing the plan, and getting it done would mean the money was theirs.
He’d give each of the two 100,000, leaving him with 800,000 to splurge for a while.
Meanwhile, Zhou Yang was purchasing his fourth stone of the afternoon.
Aside from the first stone, which had been cut open, the other three remained untouched.
The reason, naturally, was to avoid drawing attention, so he planned to take them back to his villa and cut them at his leisure.
As for the stone cutting machine, Jadeite Rough Street had them for sale, and they weren’t expensive. The hassle was simply to avoid being too conspicuous.
Occasionally winning a bet on a stone was fine, but consistently doing so would surely raise suspicions.
That’s why Zhou Yang needed to collaborate with others; going solo was too risky!
The best approach was to buy the stones and cut them secretly at home, ensuring that no one, not even Jiang Xueru, could do more than speculate.
Just as Zhou Yang was about to choose his fourth stone of the afternoon, his phone rang.
He glanced at it; it was Tian Peng calling.
“Hello, Mr. Tian!”
“What? A banquet? What time?”
“Alright, pick me up at seven tonight!”
Zhou Yang hung up, his mind racing with thoughts, when Ji Lanyan sidled up to him.
“Zhou Yang, what did Uncle-in-law say? What banquet?”
Zhou Yang now understood the familial connection between Ji Lanyan and Tian Peng, so her calling him Uncle-in-law was no surprise.
“He mentioned a private banquet tonight, which is essentially an antique exchange conference, and invited me to join.”
“I heard there will be antique transactions, so I’m planning to check it out.”
Just as Zhou Yang finished speaking, his phone rang again; this time it was Huang Jicheng.
The call was about the same topic, the antique exchange banquet tonight.
Huang Jicheng was naturally calling to invite Zhou Yang, though his call came a couple of minutes later than Tian Peng’s.
“Xueru, let’s wrap it up for today. I’ll take these jadeite roughs home, cut them tomorrow, and bring them to you.”
“I have some commitments tonight, so that’s all for today!”
Jiang Xueru nodded, having overheard Zhou Yang’s phone conversation.
She also heard what he said to Ji Lanyan, and their first collaboration seemed to be going well.
“Alright then, I have a meeting tomorrow morning. If I have time in the afternoon, we can get in touch.”
“As you know, I manage a company here, so my time is limited.”
Zhou Yang understood what Jiang Xueru was saying; after all, she was the General Manager of a company.
Unlike Zhou Yang, who had no job and was more of a free spirit.
He could wake up whenever he wanted and do whatever he pleased, purely based on his mood.
“Alright, let’s call it a day then!”
“Just give me a call if anything comes up. I’ll head off now; I need to prepare a bit.”
After Zhou Yang left, he drove straight to the bank. He needed to withdraw some cash. The so-called antique exchange conference was essentially a private gathering for buying and selling antiques. Profit wasn’t the main goal here; it was all about the exchange.
The term “exchange” had two meanings. First, it referred to the communication between participants. Second, it involved trading antiques one no longer needed for those one desired. If that sounds confusing, think of it this way: Zhou Yang might have an incense burner he acquired through various means-perhaps he got it as a bargain, bought it long ago, or obtained it through other channels.
But if Zhou Yang no longer liked the incense burner or was simply tired of it, the antique exchange conference would be the perfect opportunity to sell it. Similarly, if someone else had an item they no longer needed and Zhou Yang wanted it, he could buy it there.
This was possible, and often at a lower price, because everyone in the circle brought items to the exchange. Since making money wasn’t the primary objective, finding a bargain was quite common. However, counterfeits were plentiful, and distinguishing between real and fake was part of the game. If you ended up with a counterfeit, you’d just have to accept it after the night was over.
Such exchanges were technically illegal, essentially private gatherings with a large number of participants. Transactions were cash-only, or barter, with no bank transfers or checks allowed. This was why Zhou Yang needed to withdraw cash.
Previously, Zhou Yang had over 25.6 million on his bank card. After winning 10 million from a bet with Yu Jinlong, his total shot up to over 30 million. He spent 400,000 on his last trip home and nearly 1 million on jadeite rough today. So, he decided to withdraw 500,000 this time.
After withdrawing the money and chatting with the bank manager for a bit, Zhou Yang got back into his car. Immediately, he sensed something was off, and the reason was none other than Ji Lanyan.
“Lanyan, is there something you want to say?”
Hearing Zhou Yang’s question, Ji Lanyan flashed a charming smile.
“I wasn’t going to say anything, but since you asked…”
“I’ve decided to go with you tonight. I know you wanted to invite me but were too shy to ask.”
“So, after much consideration, I’ve decided to accompany you this evening!”
Zhou Yang opened his mouth, feeling like he’d been played by this woman, but he had no proof.
“Well, it’s not up to me. You’ll have to ask Mr. Tian.”
Zhou Yang was about to agree when he remembered he was tagging along himself, and bringing someone else might not be appropriate.
“Don’t worry, I’ve already called. Tian Xiaoyu is going too.”
“Time’s ticking. Let’s grab some food, buy an outfit, take a shower, and then head out!”
Zhou Yang was 100% sure he was being played by this woman. But it didn’t really matter; he didn’t mind her company.
However, plans had to change. Zhou Yang had intended to discuss moving with Fang Jie that evening. It seemed that would have to wait.
Just as Ji Lanyan had planned, they ate, bought clothes, showered, and after some careful grooming, they drove straight to Tian Peng’s villa. Living in the same neighborhood had its perks; a quick press on the gas pedal and they were there.
Upon arrival, Zhou Yang discovered that Huang Jicheng and Huang Siyu, the grandfather-granddaughter duo, were also present.
