My Left Eye Can See Through Everything - Chapter 77 - Yu Jinlong's Revenge Plan
With the contract sorted, the next step was lunch. After lunch, it was time to attempt their first collaboration. Zhou Yang and his companions headed straight to Jadeite Rough Street, while Jiang Xueru’s secretary returned to draft the revised contract.
Since it was the first official day of collaboration, Zhou Yang intended to showcase his abilities and prove his worth, which was crucial. He wasn’t in a rush to make a move; the first piece of jadeite had to be exceptional.
However, luck can be fickle. When you don’t need it, it seems to come knocking, but when you’re actively seeking something special, it can be elusive. Just as Zhou Yang was contemplating starting with a decent piece to get things rolling, an unwelcome figure appeared.
Yes, it was none other than Yu Jinlong!
Yu Jinlong’s knowledge of Jiang Xueru and the others’ whereabouts was courtesy of Jiang Xueru’s secretary, who had inadvertently let it slip. Upon learning this, Yu Jinlong promptly showed up.
Zhou Yang frowned slightly. He was in the early stages of entrepreneurship and preferred to avoid unnecessary trouble, as he didn’t have the bandwidth for it.
“Yu Jinlong, what brings you here?”
Jiang Xueru also spotted Yu Jinlong and felt a sense of foreboding; his presence rarely boded well.
“Xueru, if you can be here, so can I!” Yu Jinlong retorted. “I heard you’re planning to collaborate with this kid? I don’t agree with that!”
Yu Jinlong wasted no time in expressing his disapproval.
Jiang Xueru’s frown deepened.
“Yu Jinlong, isn’t this outside your jurisdiction? Aren’t you overstepping?” she replied. “If I recall correctly, the Chairman clearly stated in yesterday’s meeting that procurement would be entirely my responsibility.”
“Moreover, I’m the General Manager, and you’re the Deputy General Manager. What authority do you have to obstruct my decisions?”
“Should I call the Chairman to request permission for you?”
Jiang Xueru’s words were blunt, though she was being diplomatic. Others might not have been so courteous.
Yu Jinlong was essentially humiliating himself; his face alternated between red and pale because Jiang Xueru’s words were factual. As a Deputy General Manager, he had no right to interfere with the General Manager’s decisions. Furthermore, Yu Chengfu had indeed made that statement in the meeting yesterday, which only fueled Yu Jinlong’s resentment towards Zhou Yang.
Zhou Yang felt unjustly targeted, as if he was caught in the crossfire without reason.
“I want to gamble on stones with you!” Yu Jinlong declared, having been rebuffed by Jiang Xueru and now directing his frustration at Zhou Yang.
Initially, Zhou Yang had no intention of engaging with Yu Jinlong, but since the latter was persistently provoking him, he thought, why should he tolerate this behavior?
“Yu Jinlong, are you out of your mind? Neglecting your duties to constantly bother me?” Zhou Yang retorted. “You might be incompetent, but don’t be ignorant. If you’re truly ignorant, that’s fine, but please don’t be foolish!”
“What gives you the right to gamble with me? Just because you have a big head and a thick neck?”
“You must be out of your mind. Have I done anything to provoke you? You keep coming to me with your nonsense, but I’m not your father, so I have no reason to indulge you!”
“If you want to gamble with me, put up a billion as your stake. You decide how we play!”
“If you don’t have that kind of money, stop wasting my time. I’m busy and have no time for idle chatter, especially not with a pauper!”
With that, Zhou Yang pushed Yu Jinlong aside and crouched down to pick up a stone. He hadn’t noticed it at first, but Yu Jinlong had inadvertently rested his foot on it, catching Zhou Yang’s attention and revealing a pleasant surprise.
Eagerly, Zhou Yang lifted the stone. It was a piece of green jadeite, impressive in both size and quality. It was perfect for their first transaction of the day.
“You… you… you’ve got guts. Just you wait!” Yu Jinlong was livid, almost spitting blood. He was petty and loved causing trouble, yet couldn’t stand being criticized by others.
Despite knowing he couldn’t win a verbal spar with Zhou Yang, he stubbornly continued to provoke him, never learning his lesson.
Zhou Yang ignored him, focusing on his primary goal: making money. The jadeite rough was reasonably priced, costing just over 100,000.
After paying, the next step was stone cutting, the moment every gambler on stones eagerly awaited.
As the cutting began, Ji Lanyan and Jiang Xueru watched intently, afraid to miss a single exciting moment.
As the stone’s skin peeled away, revealing the jadeite’s green hue, the onlookers began to buzz with excitement.
But Zhou Yang paid no attention to them; he was used to such chatter.
Once the outer layer was removed, a roughly 2-kilogram jadeite emerged in Zhou Yang’s hands.
“Xueru, give me an estimate!”
Without hesitation, Zhou Yang handed the jadeite to Jiang Xueru. The jadeite was a vibrant green, and jadeite with any green hue was valuable.
Other colors could be valuable too, but none matched the worth of green.
“Zhou Yang, this jadeite has a nice color and size. The market price is around 3.5 million.”
“According to our agreement, 3.5 million with a 10% discount is 3.15 million. Does that work for you?”
Zhou Yang nodded; the stone was worth that price. The 150,000 would cover the cost of the stone, and the remaining 3 million would be his profit for the day.
Though the stone wasn’t ideal for a grand opening, it was the best he could find after a long search.
Since it was their first collaboration and the first stone, there was no need to haggle over the price.
“Alright, let’s settle it at 3 million. Forget the small change. Let’s move on to the next place…”
Jiang Xueru was surprised at Zhou Yang’s willingness to compromise, though she had quoted a slightly higher price herself.
Perhaps they both wanted a good start for their first collaboration after signing the contract.
While Zhou Yang was busy buying stones, Yu Jinlong was whispering with a man whose face bore a scar.
“Remember, it’s that guy. Just don’t kill him; anything else goes!”
“I’ll give you three days to handle this. Once it’s done, you’ll get 1 million!”
The scar-faced man was none other than Scar, Yu Chengfu’s former henchman.
Now older, and with Yu Chengfu having transitioned from the underworld to legitimate business, Scar and his ilk had lost their place.
They could only work as bodyguards or security guards.
In their youth, they lived lavishly, never saving much money. After all, life in the underworld was carefree, and few amassed wealth.
So, nearing fifty, Scar wasn’t well-off. Yu Jinlong’s proposal was a perfect match.
“Rest assured, General Manager Yu. Within three days, I’ll have that guy in the ICU!”
“But if Mr. Yu finds out about this, I’m afraid…”
