My Left Eye Can See Through Everything - Chapter 63 - Yu Chengfu
Zhou Yang understood what the woman meant, but he still couldn’t figure out who exactly Yu Jinlong was.
So, he asked directly, and Jiang Xueru had no choice but to explain.
“Yu Jinlong’s father, Yu Chengfu, is the sixth in his family. Back in his younger days, he made a name for himself in the southern coastal cities and was known as the ‘Sixth Lord.’
“Later, he cleaned up his act and transitioned into legitimate business. One of his ventures is Liu Fu Jewelry, which primarily deals in jadeite and other gemstones.
“He’s also involved in other industries. In short, he’s quite capable. But as the saying goes, ‘A tiger father often raises a dog son.’
“Yu Jinlong isn’t completely useless, but he’s certainly made no contributions to the company. The only reason he’s the Deputy General Manager is that his father is the Chairman and the largest shareholder.
“The most frustrating thing about Yu Jinlong is his pettiness, which stands in stark contrast to his father’s magnanimity.
“Don’t be fooled by the fact that his father used to be involved in the Underworld. In terms of vision and courage, Yu Jinlong couldn’t hold a candle to him even if he tried. Aside from their similar looks, they share no resemblance in personality or ability.
“So, now that you’ve crossed someone like him, you’d better be careful!”
Zhou Yang nodded. He finally understood what kind of person Yu Jinlong was.
But then, a thought suddenly struck him.
“General Manager Jiang, if I’m not mistaken, wasn’t it you who brought this enemy of mine into the picture?
“And if I’m right, you did it on purpose, didn’t you? If something really happens to me, are you going to take responsibility?”
[Heh heh heh…]
Zhou Yang’s words made Jiang Xueru laugh so hard she nearly doubled over, her laughter ringing like a bell. For a moment, Zhou Yang found himself staring, completely mesmerized.
This didn’t escape Ji Lanyan’s notice. So, Zhou Yang liked women with… assets, huh? No wonder he refused to move out of Fang Jie’s place-Fang Jie’s figure certainly fit the bill.
Ji Lanyan glanced down at herself. Not bad either, she thought.
“Mr. Zhou, I didn’t have much of a choice. That guy is like a piece of clingy gum-he doesn’t do any actual work and just sticks to me all day, driving me crazy.
“So, when the opportunity presented itself, I thought letting him suffer a little and face reality might not be such a bad idea. Otherwise, he’d keep strutting around like a peacock, thinking he’s all that.”
“Alright, let’s not talk about this anymore. Let’s eat!”
It was clear that Jiang Xueru felt a bit guilty about the whole thing, so she quickly changed the subject.
The three of them had a pleasant dinner, but things weren’t going so smoothly for Yu Jinlong.
“Explain yourself. What exactly happened?”
“What were you doing at Jadeite Rough Street? Is that even your area of responsibility?”
Yu Jinlong had lost over ten million yuan, and there was no way Yu Chengfu wouldn’t find out. So, after dinner, he called his son over.
Yu Jinlong feared nothing and no one-except his father. Seeing the stern expression on Yu Chengfu’s face, he quickly recounted the events of the past two days.
Of course, he didn’t tell the whole truth. He painted Zhou Yang as the instigator, claiming he had no choice but to respond.
Most importantly, he insisted that Zhou Yang had set a trap to lure him in, making himself out to be the innocent victim.
Yu Chengfu looked at his son, bitterly regretting that night―if he’d just pulled out, he wouldn’t be dealing with this disgrace today.
Over the past couple of days, he’d done his homework. While he might not know every single detail, he had pieced together enough to get a pretty clear picture.
Who was Yu Chengfu? A man like him wouldn’t speak on a matter unless he had already figured out the situation. So whether Yu Jinlong lied or tried to pin the blame on someone else, the truth was something Yu Chengfu had long since grasped.
But this was his only son. Sure, he had a daughter, but in Huaxia’s traditional mindset-especially for someone of his generation-daughters were seen as “water spilled out of the family once married.” The company, the family fortune, it was all meant for the son in the end.
That was why Yu Chengfu had arranged for his son to take the position of Deputy General Manager. It was meant to be a form of training. And if Yu Jinlong could win over Jiang Xueru, even better. A union between the two families would be a powerhouse collaboration.
If that happened, Yu Chengfu wouldn’t even mind handing over the company for Jiang Xueru to manage. After all, they’d be family by then.
But the problem was his son-utterly useless. He’d been in the company for years and hadn’t even managed to hold Jiang Xueru’s hand, let alone anything else. Instead, he spent his days acting like a pathetic sycophant.
A woman like Jiang Xueru? Flattery wouldn’t work on her. The more successful a woman, the more you needed to impress her with your capabilities. It didn’t matter how-it could be through business acumen, charisma, or even sheer audacity. As long as you could dominate in some way, you’d win her over.
But his son? Completely hopeless. A waste of space.
“Enough. I don’t care what kind of grudge you have with Zhou Yang, and I don’t care who’s right or wrong. This ends here,” Yu Chengfu said firmly.
“You’re not even in charge of procurement. Just focus on your own responsibilities and, most importantly, stay away from Zhou Yang.”
“What do you gain by going against him? If you win, no one will give you any credit because that’s what’s expected of you. But if you lose, you’ll be a laughingstock. Either way, there’s no upside.”
“It’s like a man fighting a woman. If you win, you’re no hero. If you lose, you’re pathetic. Do you get it?”
Yu Chengfu’s words were straightforward. The gist was clear: Zhou Yang was just a nobody, not worth the trouble.
It was like gambling. If you won, so what? It wouldn’t earn you much respect. But if you lost, like now, you’d become a joke-unable to even beat a so-called nobody.
In short, there was no benefit to winning or losing. Just like fighting a woman, no matter the outcome, it wouldn’t reflect well on you.
Yu Jinlong wanted to argue but ultimately swallowed his words. He didn’t dare. Yu Chengfu had been part of the underworld, and men like him carried an innate aura of menace.
Even though it had been decades since he’d been involved in any overt violence, that was just on the surface. Behind the scenes, there were still plenty of shady dealings.
The difference was that back then, it was all about knives and guns. Now, it was more about scheming and pulling strings from the shadows.
So Yu Jinlong could only nod in agreement outwardly. What he chose to do in private was another matter entirely.
Meanwhile, Zhou Yang was driving, with Ji Lanyan in the passenger seat. They arrived at the banks of the Yangtze River. One of the perks of living in Jinling was its proximity to the river.
Mid-July marked the beginning of the hottest time of the year. But standing by the Yangtze, with a gentle breeze blowing, it was surprisingly refreshing.
Back in his school days, Zhou Yang used to come here often. But after starting work, his visits had become far less frequent.
“Zhou Yang, tell me about yourself. I want to know more about you,” Ji Lanyan said, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.
