My Girlfriend's a Monster - Chapter 58
At home, Zhong Qingxiao was making soup. He had started as soon as he entered the house; partly to avoid intimate moments with Luo Ke, but mainly to comfort Aunt Luo after a scare.
Having spent so much time at home, a normal person’s body would have given out by now. He needed to nourish himself.
After the soup was ready, he called everyone in the house to come and have some. Zhong Shuping was still tinkering with his little rapeseed plants on the balcony. Luo Meihua sniffed the milky white fish soup and smiled, “Qingxiao’s cooking skills are really something.”
Zhong Qingxiao smiled back but said nothing, engaging in small talk with Luo Meihua.
“How did you learn to cook?” Luo Meihua asked, knowing that he had been motherless from a young age.
“Mostly learned from the internet. I lived alone during my college internship, and I practiced slowly,” replied Zhong Qingxiao.
“That’s impressive. I’ve been wanting to teach Xiao Ke, but she’s just not interested.”
Hearing Luo Ke’s name made Zhong Qingxiao tense up. He said, “Auntie, this kind of thing depends on personal interest. It’s enough that I cook for the family.”
Luo Meihua chuckled, truly fond of this son-in-law. They hadn’t argued even once; their relationship must be really good. Who says marriages from match-making can’t be full of love?
“Are you and Xiao Ke getting along well?” Luo Meihua asked. “She’s a bit odd, not very close to me, but she is a beautiful child. Neither my husband nor I have such good looks.”
It seemed Aunt Luo was unaware of the recent incident. Zhong Qingxiao didn’t elaborate; some things were better kept secret.
He nodded silently.
Luo Meihua thought he was shy about discussing such matters and felt even more pleased. Last time, Xiao Ke mentioned they hadn’t gone all the way yet, which showed his patience.
“It’s a shame. If not for what happened, you might have gotten your marriage license by now,” Luo Meihua sighed, looking out the window. “Maybe even gotten married this summer. I love summer weddings.”
Her eyes reflected nostalgia, and Zhong Qingxiao could sense a hint of sorrow. He tactfully remained silent.
When the fish soup was finished, Zhong Qingxiao offered, “Would you like some more?”
Luo Meihua shook her head. “No, thank you. Drinking too much at night means I’ll be up and down, and my sleep is bad enough.”
Zhong Qingxiao smiled. “Alright, Auntie.”
At that title, Luo Meihua looked up, asking, “Xiao Ke has already changed how she addresses me; do you still call me Auntie?”
Zhong Qingxiao hesitated. The term ‘mother-in-law’ felt awkward and unfamiliar. Why was he still calling her Auntie while Xiao Ke addressed her differently?
“Mom,” Zhong Qingxiao said softly, almost whispering.
Luo Meihua was about to smile when a loud knocking disrupted the moment.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
“Professor Zhong! Zhong Qingxiao! You need to come quickly! Your girlfriend has gone mad!”
Zhong Qingxiao’s eyes widened, a bad premonition washing over him.
“What’s going on?” Luo Meihua’s expression changed, but Zhong Qingxiao’s first reaction was to gently push her back into her seat.
“I’ll check it out. Just wait here,” he said, quickly removing his apron and heading toward the door.
Please let it not be a transformation… Please, Xiao Ke, don’t turn into a monster in front of everyone…
When Zhong Qingxiao opened the door, Hu Qiang was there, pulling him upstairs without further explanation.
“Hurry! It’s bad! Come and calm her down! We can’t hold her back!”
Forced to follow, Zhong Qingxiao ascended the stairs, his mind in turmoil.
At the rooftop, the usually locked door was violently busted open, the thick chain broken on the ground. As he reached the top, the sounds of chaos grew louder.
“Keke! Stop it! You’re going to kill someone!”
It was Bai Lan’s voice!
Who was she fighting? Zhong Qingxiao’s heart tightened, and he rushed forward.
The night breeze was actually quite gentle, the sun completely set, and the rooftop dimly lit, but still, each person’s face and expression were discernible.
Luo Ke’s long hair fluttered in the wind, partially covering her face. At her feet, a man was wailing and cowering, his clothes torn and face swollen almost beyond recognition, his cries particularly pitiful.
Zhong Qingxiao paused, then recognized the man from his clothes-it was Ge Hailong.
Luo Ke was beating Ge Hailong.
“Enough! He might really die!” Su Sheng’an tried to intervene, only to be glared back by Luo Ke. He retreated, shaking his head at Bai Lan. It was too late to pull her back now.
Bai Lan swallowed nervously. Keke was really strong, and she was not even close in strength… Why wasn’t Professor Zhong here yet? He was the only one who could restrain Keke.
Her blows were crisp and efficient, her hair swinging with her movements, the distant sky as her backdrop. In her stylish campus outfit, she almost seemed like a character from a manga, an unreal presence.
Was it because of that incident?
Zhong Qingxiao was momentarily dazed before he finally called out to her, “Xiao Ke! Stop fighting!”
Blood splattered around, the fresh liquid thick on the ground. Luo Ke’s nerves tingled with excitement. It was a pity, the red blood spilled, only to dry up…
Luo Ke didn’t turn around, only kicking Ge Hailong twice more before she was abruptly held around the waist. A familiar scent enveloped her, and a soft, pleasing voice whispered in her ear, “Stop fighting, everyone is watching you.”
Zhong Qingxiao was concerned; what if his girlfriend joyfully sprouted a tentacle in her excitement? How would he explain then?
The fight briefly paused. Yan Cheng and others quickly dragged Ge Hailong away, to prevent him from actually dying there.
Luo Ke blinked, looking as Zhong Qingxiao turned her around, his beautiful fingers adjusting her hair.
“How could you hit someone?” Zhong Qingxiao asked, his tone devoid of any blame.
“He bullied Mom,” Luo Ke provided a clear answer. She had staged this scene just for this moment.
Had it worked? Looking into her dear wife’s eyes…
He bullied Mom. Her voice even trembled slightly from the intense fight, a sweet sound that suddenly made all of Zhong Qingxiao’s earlier suspicions evaporate.
She wasn’t human after all.
How could he apply normal human logic to her? At least now he knew that Xiao Ke wasn’t as heartless as he had thought, as long as human emotions could still reach her, that was enough.
“We’ll drive him away tomorrow,” Zhong Qingxiao sighed in relief, embracing his girlfriend tightly.
It was a success. Luo Ke almost wanted to laugh out loud; it was so easy to fool her dear wife. Just a little acting, and her dear wife would believe her completely, never even doubting her for a moment.
What a fool, dear wife.
His chest was so comfortable to rest on; she really wanted to bite him.
“Professor Zhong, we’ll head back first,” Bai Lan said.
“Okay,” Zhong Qingxiao responded, as people gradually left, leaving him and Xiao Ke alone.
He gently stroked his girlfriend’s back, seriously trying to calm her emotions, but Luo Ke was already overjoyed.
Yes, just keep holding her like this, she could have her wish fulfilled tonight.
“What are you doing here?” Luo Ke nestled in Zhong Qingxiao’s arms, her gaze innocently inquiring.
Zhong Qingxiao took a deep breath, not wanting to tell his girlfriend that just ten minutes ago, he had doubted whether he truly had feelings for Xiao Ke. He could only hug Luo Ke even tighter.
“They came to get me, said to come and calm you down. I thought something had happened to you, I almost thought… that you had turned into a monster in front of them. I was even thinking about how to explain it to them.”
“Really?” Luo Ke was particularly pleased with Zhong Qingxiao’s response. If she had accidentally revealed her true form, would her dear wife actually try to cover for her?
She licked her lips, wanting to continue acting, but it was getting hard to restrain herself.
“Suck, I want to suck,” Luo Ke nuzzled him, like a cunning cat.
Zhong Qingxiao instinctively looked around, although it was the rooftop and probably no one was around, but…
“Let’s go downstairs,” he tried to negotiate with his girlfriend, “After we wash our hands, we can go back to the room, okay?”
Luo Ke pursed her lips. Hmm… It wouldn’t be the same. The room didn’t have the wind, and Zhong Qingxiao wouldn’t feel as tense.
“But I really want to bite something,” Luo Ke said. “Zhong Qingxiao, I didn’t kill that man.”
It was only then that Zhong Qingxiao realized, of course, Xiao Ke could have easily killed Ge Hailong without anyone noticing, but she didn’t; she let him live.
She was really trying to be a good human.
“I always have to do something to suppress my bad moods, Zhong Qingxiao,” Luo Ke murmured in his arms.
Zhong Qingxiao took a light breath, then exhaled softly. Yes, Xiao Ke was already accommodating him. She knew she shouldn’t kill, even though she could easily do so.
“Do you want to bite me?” Zhong Qingxiao asked, already somewhat familiar with his girlfriend’s habits. Her oral fixation was quite strong; often, even in her sleep, she needed something in her mouth.
Almost every morning, Zhong Qingxiao would wake up and have to gently pry her lips open.
Luo Ke stopped speaking, just staring straight at Zhong Qingxiao.
Zhong Qingxiao resigned himself to his fate, leading his girlfriend to a secluded spot, then leaned against a wall, slowly lifting his shirt.
The moon was gradually appearing, the weather seemed a bit gloomy, and the colors were hazy.
With a deep breath, Zhong Qingxiao’s gaze settled on a spot, unfocused. He couldn’t afford to be distracted, just gently supporting his girlfriend’s shoulders, listening to the sizzling sound by his ear, occasionally frowning and closing his eyes.
After a full quarter of an hour, Luo Ke finally stepped back from his embrace, looking very satisfied at her chosen dear wife.
He was great.
“Are you done?” Zhong Qingxiao took her hand, his fingers brushing against a patchy spot. He then realized Luo Ke’s hand was injured, with traces of broken skin. He tenderly brought it to his chest, “Let’s go back and apply some medicine.”
Humans, having completely forgotten, how could a monster possibly need it?
