My Girlfriend's a Monster - Chapter 53
Humans are alive, but every person caught by it is injected with anesthetic. They watch helplessly as the Monster cuts open their chest and abdomen, witnessing their own demise as life slowly drains away.
Zhong Qingxiao’s grip on the railing tightened, his slender and elegant hands betraying his profession as a teacher. His upbringing had instilled a gentle nature in him, never having taken a life intentionally. He picked up a knife only to carve beautiful birds.
As a humanities professor, he constantly scrutinized his own thoughts, hoping his moral compass remained balanced. He wished to impart pure knowledge to his students, untainted by biased ideologies.
He once believed the world was beautiful, having seen many splendid landscapes through his artist mother’s eyes. He had been striving to contribute to creating a better world.
But the world changed suddenly, morphing into this nightmare. He felt like a mere background figure, watching endless demons wreak havoc on humanity.
Most people in this world were just struggling to make a living, many perishing in this catastrophe without a chance to resist.
“Zhong Qingxiao.” Luo Ke’s voice suddenly echoed in his mind, like an ancient call.
“Do you want to help them? These poor humans…” Luo Ke spoke while stifling laughter; his dear wife’s expression was too amusing. He looked sorrowful, terrified, and helpless. Oh, how she wished to reach out and embrace him.
But the horror house theme wasn’t over yet; it was just beginning.
Xiao Ke?
Zhong Qingxiao snapped back to reality, looking around but still not seeing Luo Ke’s figure.
What did Xiao Ke mean?
“Your poor friends can’t simply use a flamethrower to kill that Monster. They’ll eventually be found and become part of these hospital beds,” Luo Ke’s voice was gentle. “If you play a game with me, I’ll promise to save them, okay?”
As if to validate her words, the Monster was about to skillfully slice open a human body with a scalpel when suddenly, a corpse on another bed sat up, flailing like a puppet.
This anomaly caught the Monster’s attention. It uttered a confused grunt and waddled over, shaking its obese body.
The corpse was pinned down by the Monster, which seemed to be conducting an examination, roughly searching through the body’s abdomen, causing it to shake like a toy doll.
“What game?” Zhong Qingxiao asked aloud.
Luo Ke pondered, “Hmm… I want to see a beast chasing a beautiful princess in a castle. Will you play the princess?”
She mimicked the gentle tone Zhong Qingxiao used when asking her questions, though she couldn’t hide the joy in her voice.
How delightful, this date would surely be unforgettable for him.
So, the beast was the Monster before him, right?
Zhong Qingxiao gripped the railing firmly, adjusting his breathing, and walked towards the Monster.
Yan Cheng, hiding under the bed, watched in shock, unable to speak-what was Zhong Qingxiao doing? Was he really going to face it barehanded?
The footsteps caught the Monster’s attention. It slowly turned its head, its eyes almost invisible beneath layers of flesh, leaking black fluid in excitement.
A new patient!
Zhong Qingxiao stepped back, then turned and ran without hesitation.
He started running, and the Monster, with its short, numerous legs, chased after him. It wasn’t fast but persistent, keeping five or six meters behind Zhong Qingxiao.
Luo Ke almost burst into laughter; it was so amusing, she loved it!
Yan Cheng was stunned, hesitating for a second before scrambling out from under the bed, urging the others to chase the Monster.
“Oh my god, Zhong Qingxiao seems to have lost it! Let’s catch that Monster; the key is still in its pocket!”
There weren’t many people, just five: Yan Cheng, Bai Lan, Su Sheng’an, and two teenagers.
Bai Lan had seen the scene too, her face full of shock, clutching the flamethrower tightly. “He seems to be saving us; hurry! If something happens to Professor Zhong, what about Keke?”
Running, people instinctively ran downstairs, while the Monster, like a giant fat insect, emitted sharp laughter, stumbling down.
Zhong Qingxiao breathed heavily, fear hidden in his eyes. The second floor offered no refuge; every small room was a dead end, forcing him to rush straight to the first floor.
“Ding dong! Please, Number 001 Zhong Qingxiao, collect your medication at Window 1.”
The electronic female voice from the announcer sounded again, making Zhong Qingxiao’s heart skip a beat upon hearing his name. But he had no time for hesitation or doubt; all he had was the urgency to run. He quickly entered the pitch-black corridor, devoid of any light, like an endless Abyss.
Phew, phew, what a spectacle. Such a scene, beautiful things need filth and baseness as contrast. His running curve was smooth, exceptionally pleasing to the eye.
There was no mirror, but if there were, Luo Ke would have noticed a spark in her dark eyes, a light she believed was hard to replicate in human eyes, now shining in her sockets.
The corridor was too dark, and a stiff severed limb appeared on the ground. Zhong Qingxiao stumbled, almost falling, but his excellent balance allowed him to quickly regain his footing.
However, his speed slowed, and the Monster closed the gap, growing increasingly excited.
“Surgery… surgery…” It laughed maniacally.
The other side of the door was blocked, and the corridor ended with an upward staircase. Zhong Qingxiao ran up without hesitation.
“Running too fast, fat insect,” Luo Ke complained, feeling the stupid creature made her dear wife look a bit disheveled. Without hesitation, the girl lurking in the shadows swung her knife, severing two of the Monster’s legs.
A miserable scream echoed behind, the Monster writhing its fat body frantically, looking around but seeing nothing.
Fresh humans lay ahead; it pursued despite the pain, leaving a trail of blood, black foul-smelling fluid.
Zhong Qingxiao’s emotions fluctuated between fear and confusion. What was he doing now? Seemingly playing a strange game with his Monster girlfriend.
Was it really a game? Would he lose his life here?
Filled with uncertainty, Zhong Qingxiao was unsure of Luo Ke’s endpoint or how the game would end, but he knew he had to find Yan Cheng and the others.
They had weapons capable of resisting the Monster.
He reached the second floor, quickly ascending to the third. Alone in the building, he wandered, the porcelain dolls nearby, their eyes seemingly fixed on him.
He repeatedly told himself not to be afraid, pretending the creature behind him was just an ordinary beast, one that could be killed.
In self-reassurance, Zhong Qingxiao gradually calmed down. Xiao Ke wouldn’t let him be in mortal danger; he trusted his Xiao Ke. He needed to get the weapon and end this game.
Turning a corner, Zhong Qingxiao continued to the fourth floor, but Yan Cheng and the others were gone, leaving only a human covered in iodine on the bed, staring at him with wide eyes.
The person seemed to regain some consciousness from the anesthetic, trembling and pleading for help: “Save me… save me.”
Zhong Qingxiao glanced at him, not lingering, as the sound of the Monster crashing around echoed behind.
“Yan Cheng! Where are you?” Zhong Qingxiao shouted.
But the entire fourth floor was empty, with no response.
They might have left, perhaps directly exiting the hospital…
Zhong Qingxiao took a deep breath, the Monster already behind him, clawing at the door, its eyes leaking black fluid almost covering its entire face.
A truly awful Monster, hideous in appearance, even panting from running.
Zhong Qingxiao’s expression gradually returned to normal, perhaps from fear reaching its peak, he even thought the Monster wasn’t so formidable.
“Zhong Qingxiao!”
“Professor Zhong! Are you upstairs?”
Voices echoed, Yan Cheng and Bai Lan’s, filling Zhong Qingxiao with strength; they hadn’t abandoned him.
“Go to the first floor! We’ll meet there!” Zhong Qingxiao shouted, running downstairs.
Three flamethrowers, they could definitely kill this Monster.
Yan Cheng and the others waited on the first floor, all on guard. Seeing Zhong Qingxiao emerge unharmed, they breathed a sigh of relief.
“Get ready!” Zhong Qingxiao commanded, taking a flamethrower from Lu Haiyao. The three machines were poised to strike.
He escaped beautifully, not frightened at all.
Luo Ke licked her lips, feeling as if she had just enjoyed a feast, her gaze filled with satisfaction.
The massive Monster caught up, staggering down. Seeing so many people, it went berserk, swinging its thick arms wildly, preventing anyone from approaching.
“Together.” Zhong Qingxiao focused on the Monster, spotting its exposed weakness, and charged forward, pressing the switch.
Ah, he fired.
Foolish villains should bow before justice.
Luo Ke chuckled softly, and as the flames erupted, she had already twisted off the Monster’s head.
The swinging arms gradually slowed, everyone exploiting the opening, flames roaring, and the Monster turned to ash in the foul-smelling air.
Almost simultaneously, Zhong Qingxiao heard his girlfriend’s gentle whisper: “You did great, my darling.”
As his mental defenses relaxed, Zhong Qingxiao felt his stamina waning. He stepped back, and someone promptly supported his waist, the familiar sweet scent reaching him.
“Looks like I arrived late.” Luo Ke spoke up.
Her silent appearance startled everyone, Bai Lan turning abruptly, her pale face transforming into joy upon seeing her. “Keke! Oh wow! You wouldn’t believe what we went through!”
“Is everyone okay?” Luo Ke asked, her concern feigned, as she didn’t look at anyone, only focused on wiping Zhong Qingxiao’s forehead.
Her dear wife’s mental state seemed to have stabilized.
