My Girlfriend's a Monster - Chapter 49
As the temperature hovered around 30 degrees, the nights remained long. Zhong Qingxiao felt the pillow beneath his lower back growing damp, and eventually, he could barely make a sound, only managing short breaths.
“Want a kiss,” Luo Ke leaned in to kiss him, and Zhong Qingxiao, lacking the strength to move his head, felt his tongue entwined once more.
The monster’s dormant conscience began to stir around four in the morning. Luo Ke noticed Zhong Qingxiao had been silent for quite some time and bent down to press her ear against his chest.
Thump, thump, thump. His heartbeat was rapid, quick and urgent.
Why was it like this?
She quickly checked her own heartbeat, steady and regular. Why was Zhong Qingxiao’s different? Was he about to die? Had she gone too far?
Luo Ke’s expression froze for a moment, her tentacles halting instantly. She repeatedly lowered her head to listen to Zhong Qingxiao’s heartbeat, but it remained fast, unchanged.
Why was this happening? She had never encountered such a heartbeat before. Was Zhong Qingxiao broken?
Her repeated actions roused Zhong Qingxiao, his voice hoarse. Realizing his body wasn’t empty, he reached out to brush his girlfriend’s cheek.
He looked incredibly weak, even such a simple gesture seemed to drain all his energy.
“What’s wrong?” Zhong Qingxiao asked softly, his voice like the intoxicating melody of a strong brew, “Are you still uncomfortable?”
Half-asleep, Zhong Qingxiao appeared particularly harmless and gentle. Seeing his girlfriend staring at him silently, he assumed she still wanted more, and with a trace of effort, he said, “Could you be a bit gentler, let me sleep for a while, okay?”
His gentle gaze seemed to embrace everything, and Luo Ke felt a warmth flow through her heart, instantly retracting all her tentacles to return to her human form. Hearing Zhong Qingxiao’s weak hum, she eagerly hugged him.
Her slender, soft body nestled into his embrace, holding him tightly.
Luo Ke felt a strange sinking sensation in her heart, a hint of fear. Had she broken Zhong Qingxiao?
Her unusual behavior made Zhong Qingxiao slightly more alert. He instinctively wrapped his arms around her back, gently patting her, puzzled, “What’s wrong, Xiao Ke?”
Luo Ke looked up from his embrace, her gaze mirroring Zhong Qingxiao’s sadness, “Did I break you, Zhong Qingxiao?”
Her long fingers repeatedly caressed his chest, “Are you about to die?”
Zhong Qingxiao’s mind went blank for a moment, fatigue preventing him from immediately grasping Luo Ke’s meaning, even making him wonder-was he dying?
But after a while, he understood what she was saying. He shook his head, struggling to turn and embrace her, explaining, “Just a fast heartbeat, it’ll be okay after some rest. You’re not doing it anymore?”
“Mm.” Luo Ke nodded, nearly frightened.
“Alright.” Zhong Qingxiao sighed in relief, “Let’s clean up tomorrow, okay? I’m really exhausted.”
Luo Ke didn’t bother him further, instead lifting her head to kiss his chin.
Ah… so it wasn’t too much after all? Could she continue like this in the future?
Would a human’s heartbeat accelerate due to mating? Why didn’t hers do the same? She reached out to feel her still calm heartbeat, her confusion slowly deepening.
It turned out, the hardest parts of a human body to replicate were the eyes and the heart.
At dawn, Luo Ke quietly slipped out of Zhong Qingxiao’s embrace. She glanced at the bedside clock, showing 5:49, not yet six.
But there seemed to be some commotion in the hallway.
She dressed, gently touched Zhong Qingxiao’s brow to let him sleep deeper, and then went out to the hallway, following the noise to the dormitory entrance.
“What’s going on?” Her voice startled everyone.
Grandma Zhong saw Luo Ke and said seriously, “Two things: first, Sisi is missing; second, Zheng Xiangyu’s wound isn’t healing well, she’s running a high fever and needs anti-inflammatory medication.”
Luo Ke listened quietly, not finding anything particularly alarming.
Before she could voice her opinion, someone hugged her from behind, the familiar scent making Luo Ke stay still.
It was Bai Lan, wrapping her arms around Luo Ke’s waist, snuggling against her.
“Keke! You’re here too!” Bai Lan exclaimed.
Luo Ke didn’t respond, sensing Bai Lan’s mood had noticeably improved since Su Sheng’an’s arrival. Bai Lan was naturally lively, previously suppressed, now fully showing her true self.
Cold eyes lifted, she scrutinized the boy named Su Sheng’an, fair-skinned, with a strong build but a youthful face, somewhat baby-faced.
Her gaze was always straightforward, never friendly. Su Sheng’an retreated two steps, feeling a bit awkward.
Bai Lan didn’t notice Luo Ke’s actions, continuing to ask Grandma Zhong, “What happens if she doesn’t get the anti-inflammatory medication? It’s hard to find now, isn’t it?”
Grandma Zhong sighed, “Hard to say, likely she’ll die.”
Bad luck is like that. Zhu Yiming had a severe leg injury, yet slowly recovered, while Zheng Xiangyu…
“It’s partly due to the weather,” Grandma Zhong added.
But Zheng Xiangyu was from Baoliyuan, they had already been kind enough to take her in and treat her wound. Who would risk their life to find anti-inflammatory medication for her? Injectable anti-inflammatory drugs are either in small clinics or large hospitals.
It’s unimaginable what might be in a hospital.
“And what about Sisi? How did she suddenly disappear?” Bai Lan asked, always thinking the little girl was clever and mischievous, not worrying too much.
But the dormitory residents said they hadn’t seen Huo Sisi for two or three days.
A woman named Qin Mei spoke up, “She always runs around, despite being told many times, never listening. But since she always returned safely, we didn’t worry too much. But this time, she’s been gone for three days, clearly unusual.”
Three days, Luo Ke touched her chin, wasn’t that after she ordered Huo Sisi to the underground parking lot to eat that monster? She hadn’t appeared since.
Could she be so foolish, getting killed instead?
Luo Ke’s eyes held a hint of amusement.
However…
She glanced at Qin Mei, why did she smell Zhao Xucheng’s scent on this woman? Human scents don’t easily exchange unless they’ve mated.
“So what should we do? She looks in bad shape, can’t delay.”
Already running a high fever, she might last two or three days at most, a decision must be made quickly.
Qin Mei said, “Just send her back to Baoliyuan, she’s Chen’s mistress, nothing to do with us. We’ve taken care of her for two days, isn’t that enough?”
Everyone knew it might be too cruel, and Baoliyuan likely wouldn’t care, but risking one’s life to save someone isn’t something everyone can do.
After the decision was made, everyone began discussing in the corridor. Unlike the others’ silence, Qin Mei bluntly stated she didn’t want Zheng Xiangyu staying in the dormitory.
“It’s already crowded, taking care of her affects our sleep. If anyone disagrees, take her and care for her yourself, don’t disturb others.”
Her words weren’t pleasant, but they were true, and no one stood up to argue.
Going out to find supplies requires courage.
“Let’s decide then.” Luo Ke was indifferent, “I’m going back for breakfast.”
After the two left, Grandma Zhong suddenly spoke, “Maybe I should go look, but I don’t know medicine, might need to ask Ms. Luo in Room 1801 what medication to find.”
Yan Cheng sighed deeply, “How can we let you go? Don’t worry, I’ll figure something out, won’t just watch her die.”
In the end, Yan Cheng decided to find anti-inflammatory medication for Zheng Xiangyu. At ten in the morning, he knocked on Room 1801’s door to ask Luo Meihua what specific medication was needed.
Luo Meihua wrote it down for him, listing several options to make finding easier, advising, “These two are common, but must be refrigerated. If not, don’t bother.”
“Thanks.” Yan Cheng pocketed the note, hesitated, then asked, “You’ve taken care of her these days, do you need any supplies? I can bring them back.”
The vegetable issue was solved, meat wasn’t needed for now, and grains were sufficient.
Luo Meihua didn’t want to trouble outsiders, shaking her head, “No need, just finding the medication is enough.”
Yan Cheng’s plan to go out stirred everyone, knowing the remaining supplies in the building wouldn’t last more than a week. Since someone was going out, why not gather more food?
“I’ll leave at noon, two hours left. If you want to go, discuss it.” Yan Cheng said.
Breakfast in Room 1801 was light, vegetable porridge. Luo Meihua, having cared for Zheng Xiangyu, felt a bit down.
“She seemed like a good kid, such a shame.” Luo Meihua said.
Luo Ke ignored it, gently blowing on her porridge, Zhong Shuping silently tried to comfort, “You’ve done more than anyone, don’t dwell on it.”
“I’m going back to my room.” Luo Ke stood, carrying her porridge back.
Why mourn for insignificant human lives? Humans are good at creating their own troubles.
Zhong Qingxiao was still asleep, Luo Ke placed the porridge aside, happily leaning in to kiss his cheek.
Without cleaning, his body still carried a strange watery scent, Luo Ke’s scent, particularly strong.
So beautiful, his sleeping form, Luo Ke admired freely, not waking her dear wife, silently waiting for him to fully rest. After all, porridge can be reheated.
After twenty minutes, she heard Zhong Qingxiao’s stomach growl.
He was hungry.
Luo Ke blinked, finding it adorable, then slipped under the covers to kiss his stomach.
