My Girlfriend's a Monster - Chapter 36
“Are you guys okay? If so, come down to the first floor.” Yan Cheng’s voice came through the walkie-talkie, breaking the prolonged silence. There were four people here, excluding Bai Lan and Hu Qiang, there was also a young woman and a young man. Hu Qiang, who had just been scared to the point of wetting his pants, followed behind everyone else, his face flushed with embarrassment.
The lights on the first floor were out, except for one, making the hallway exceptionally dark and creating a terrifying atmosphere. They searched for Yan Cheng for a while but couldn’t find him until they noticed his group near a storage room by the underground garage.
“What’s going on?” Bai Lan asked.
Yan Cheng didn’t reply but gestured for them to look inside the storage room.
As they approached, they saw a… ball in the room. To be precise, it was a ball made of human corpses, so decayed that the flesh was nearly indistinguishable. Only the protruding limbs and skulls hinted that these were three bodies.
Bai Lan suddenly covered her mouth, nearly vomiting.
Zhong Qingxiao’s expression flickered as he solemnly said, “It’s those three.”
“Uh-huh.” Yan Cheng nodded.
The trio of bullies who had disappeared after being chased by the monster were now dead, twisted in such a horrific way.
“We need to handle this. We can’t just leave them here,” Yan Cheng said, “It’s getting hotter by the day.”
“Just burn them,” Luo Ke suggested with a gesture, her face showing disgust. “It stinks. Disgusting.”
Yan Cheng glanced at her. Truth be told, he instinctively didn’t like this girl-too headstrong and seemingly arrogant about life.
“Try this.” A young man stepped forward, handing Luo Ke a sealed plastic bag.
Luo Ke opened it curiously and found a disposable handkerchief inside, scented with a refreshing orange fragrance. She placed it under her nose, and indeed, the nauseating smell was blocked.
She nodded at the young man.
“Zhao Xucheng.” The man extended his hand in greeting.
Luo Ke looked up-male, 24, slightly baby-faced, and handsome. In a world where most survivors looked shabby, he was meticulously groomed, even faintly smelling of men’s cologne.
Luo Ke didn’t intend to shake his hand but was surprised when Zhong Qingxiao did it first.
“Thanks for your kindness,” Zhong Qingxiao smiled and nodded, his eyes, however, kept a distance.
Zhao Xucheng was surprised by the hostility from the man but didn’t show it, simply smiling and saying, “You’re welcome.”
Did they know each other? Luo Ke wondered. She rarely saw Zhong Qingxiao initiate a handshake. Her gaze fell on their clasped hands, and she coldly asked, “Aren’t you going to let go?”
Zhao Xucheng, startled by Luo Ke’s hostile look, quickly released his hand.
Luo Ke immediately grabbed Zhong Qingxiao’s hand, rubbing it repeatedly to imprint her own mark. How annoying, taken advantage of by some random guy.
Zhong Qingxiao couldn’t help but stroke her head and then glanced in Zhao Xucheng’s direction, but the latter had already gone to talk to Yan Cheng and wasn’t looking this way.
Was that his imagination? Was he being too sensitive?
Human bodies are difficult to burn, especially inside a building as it could cause a fire. Once the bodies were sufficiently burned, they had to be taken outside.
No one wanted to deal with this dirty job, but Yan Cheng stepped forward, and Hu Qiang, knowing he wasn’t much help elsewhere, joined him in looking for tools to clean up the remains.
Everyone was tired and chose a spot far from the storage room to rest. Sisi, the little girl, was about to leave when Luo Ke suddenly grabbed her.
Sisi was shocked and about to scream when Luo Ke quickly covered her mouth and nose.
Bending down, Luo Ke whispered in her ear, “Do you like human flesh? Just roasted, don’t you want a taste?”
Terrified, Sisi struggled fiercely but in vain. Before she could even utter a word of protest, she was pushed face-first into the pile of charred bodies.
“Don’t scream, or I’ll cut out your tongue,” Luo Ke added with a smile.
Sisi was in tears. Who would want to eat such a thing? She wanted to eat fresh, living humans!
“…Xiao Ke?”
Zhong Qingxiao’s voice came from behind. Luo Ke, still pressing down on someone, instinctively relaxed her grip, and Sisi seized the moment to escape.
Zhong Qingxiao looked puzzled at the little girl running away without looking back. What was Xiao Ke doing to her? The door to the storage room blocked his view; he saw nothing.
“What’s up?” Luo Ke stood up straight, taking out a wet wipe from her pocket and slowly wiping her hands.
“Are you hungry? Want something to eat?” Zhong Qingxiao approached, pulling out a few vacuum-sealed sausages from an inner pocket of his shirt.
Well… she didn’t really like these additive-laden foods, but since her dear wife had brought them…
Luo Ke reached out to take them.
Zhong Qingxiao walked towards a quiet corner where the sunlight fell on a lone spot, the sky outside gradually darkening.
Luo Ke followed him, tearing open the packaging to eat. The moment it touched her mouth, she grimaced in disdain but finished it all.
Watching her finish, Zhong Qingxiao then asked, “Can you explain today’s incident with Sisi to me?”
His voice was soft, his gaze calm, devoid of any accusation.
“Why?” Luo Ke feigned ignorance, enjoying these games.
Zhong Qingxiao said, “Because I think Xiao Ke is very gentle and kind, you must have had your reasons for doing that.”
“Hmm.” Luo Ke was somewhat irritated by the words Zhong Qingxiao used to describe her. She knew she had initially approached him with that image, and she had been very successful, hadn’t she?
But now that Zhong Qingxiao knew she was a monster, shouldn’t he describe her as powerful and brave? Why should she continue to cover up her real self?
“No reason.” Luo Ke looked straight at Zhong Qingxiao. “I just wanted to see if I could kill it, that’s all.”
Her expression when she said this was even somewhat cute, which stunned Zhong Qingxiao into silence.
“You were just being malicious to her, right?” Zhong Qingxiao asked.
Ah, his eyes were dimming. Luo Ke thought. But she didn’t need to cater to Zhong Qingxiao’s tastes. They had a hierarchical relationship, didn’t they? A dear wife should completely obey her, right?
Of course, if he acted coquettishly, she could concede a little.
Zhong Qingxiao pursed his lips, at a loss for words. This version of Luo Ke felt very alien to him. He had been suspecting whether a girlfriend who was a monster had a murderous nature, worrying-what if her previous behavior was all an act?
Humans were just humans, and Zhong Qingxiao felt that there was nothing about him that would make a monstrous girlfriend break her nature. If this was what she truly was, then what had she been like before?
Had she killed people before? How often? Would she torture humans to death or eat them like other monsters?
This thought was deeply horrifying, and during those days, Zhong Qingxiao had no idea what was happening.
“Yes, I was doing it on purpose.” Luo Ke smiled. “Zhong Qingxiao, I am a monster. I naturally don’t abide by your human laws, you know that, right?”
This statement undoubtedly confirmed Zhong Qingxiao’s suspicions. He was choked up, unable to utter another word.
The nature of their relationship was completely different now. Zhong Qingxiao’s understanding of his girlfriend was not refreshed but collapsed.
His girlfriend might really be a murderous monster, her hands possibly stained with the blood of many innocents. Over twenty years on this Earth, Zhong Qingxiao dared not think too deeply about it.
Zhong Qingxiao’s breathing became rapid, and he suddenly covered his mouth, feeling a severe sense of discomfort. He had kissed this monster, had been intimately close with her.
In the twenty-plus years before he knew Luo Ke, had she also parasitized a body like this, lurking around some slightly interesting human, ready to kill them when bored?
“What is that look?” Luo Ke’s expression cooled. She seemed to have seen something like… disgust in Zhong Qingxiao’s eyes? Was that the expression a pet should show its master?
A pet’s gaze towards its master should always be submissive.
Displeasure made Luo Ke somewhat irrational. She grabbed Zhong Qingxiao’s wrist, pulled his hands apart, and kissed him without further ado, not omitting the essential step of using her tongue. But Zhong Qingxiao clenched his teeth tightly, his face full of refusal, which only irritated Luo Ke more.
“Keep this up, and I’ll smash your teeth.”
The monster’s cold voice whispered in his ear. Zhong Qingxiao couldn’t break free. In places invisible to ordinary humans, his hands and legs were tightly shackled against the corner of the wall, immobilized. He felt a cold, sticky sensation climbing up his neck, as if it could end his life at any moment.
Despair filled Zhong Qingxiao’s pale eyes. Indeed, she would kill him if she got upset-she wasn’t really a girlfriend, not really a fiancée; she wasn’t the Xiao Ke he loved.
He had fallen in love with a heartless monster.
His frail teeth couldn’t stop her; Zhong Qingxiao was forced to open his mouth and accept her, the repeated deep intrusion nearly making him retch, but he had no choice but to endure.
Kissing was wonderful, really wonderful, perfect for kissing-a vessel completely out of control.
Luo Ke dominated him completely, unnoticed in this corner while everyone else rested, kissing him with reckless abandon, ready to tear open his lips with slightly more force, to taste the sweet, delicious blood.
Just as she was about to do so, a warm drop landed on the back of her hand-a curious sensation that slowly slowed her actions. She released Zhong Qingxiao and saw something like moisture at the corners of his eyes.
“Crying?” Luo Ke was surprised. It was her first time seeing Zhong Qingxiao cry. “Did my kiss hurt you?”
She hadn’t even had the chance to bite him yet.
Zhong Qingxiao remained silent, his gaze filled with sadness, his lips swollen and shiny. Luo Ke pursed her lips, her smile widening slightly as she leaned in close and licked the moisture from the corner of his eye.
A pair of eyes, filled with a scrutinizing gaze, appeared from a hidden spot, witnessing everything between them.
