My Girlfriend's a Monster - Chapter 30
After the woman left, Zhong Qingxiao returned to the dining area, planning to call Bai Lan and Zhu Yiming over to discuss forming a team. Seeing his noticeably relaxed expression over the past few days, Luo Ke’s gaze grew colder.
For reasons unknown, Luo Ke remarked, “With all the commotion last night, Zhu Yiming didn’t react. Maybe he’s already dead.”
Her tone was unfriendly, and she poked several holes in the beef on her plate with her chopsticks, drawing everyone’s attention to her.
Luo Ke’s displeasure was obvious, but its clarity only left Zhong Qingxiao puzzled. He couldn’t understand why his girlfriend was suddenly upset.
Even so, there was no reason to speak ill of others.
His expression turned unusually serious as he said to Luo Ke, “Xiao Ke, that’s very impolite.”
“If it weren’t for Zhu Yiming modifying the flamethrower today, we wouldn’t have been able to kill that Monster.”
If it weren’t for me, you wouldn’t have made it home safely today. Luo Ke stared at the beef, stabbing it more forcefully.
“Are you criticizing me for some insignificant human?” Luo Ke asked.
Her voice was calm, devoid of any discernible emotion, yet Zhong Qingxiao sensed that his girlfriend was even angrier.
Why did she dislike Zhu Yiming so much? From the very beginning, she never showed him a friendly face. Was there something unpleasant between them when Xiao Ke first met Zhu Yiming?
Xiao Ke was kind and gentle; there must be a reason for her sudden change.
Zhong Qingxiao sighed and sat back down beside Luo Ke, his tone much gentler. “I didn’t mean to criticize you for anyone. Is the beef I cooked today not to your liking? Why are you upset?”
Their conversation was watched by the elders. Zhong Shuping said nothing, but Luo Meihua was secretly shocked. Her prospective son-in-law seemed to really like her daughter, to a degree she considered somewhat indulgent.
Zhong Qingxiao had softened.
Luo Ke stuffed the mutilated beef into her mouth, forcing herself to calm down, shaking her head. “No, it’s delicious.”
She felt a bit… resentful, perhaps? Why did Zhu Yiming receive praise and closeness from Zhong Qingxiao just for making two broken cans? Was he going to treat Zhu Yiming as one of his own?
Why did those annoying humans outside, who did nothing but agree to team up, make Zhong Qingxiao so happy?
She was the real hero today. She saved Zhong Qingxiao, her father-in-law, and so many others.
She was merciful; she was a lofty deity. She should be the one receiving the most attention and praise from Zhong Qingxiao. He should focus all his thoughts on her, yet she received nothing.
Absolutely nothing.
Two hours ago, Zhong Qingxiao even rejected her proposal regarding mating.
Her chopsticks creaked under her grip, ready to snap if she applied more force. Luo Ke repeatedly reassured herself: It’s okay, don’t rush things. Think about the delicious beef, think about the soft pad he sewed for her today. Why be angry? Don’t be angry, after all, dear wife knows nothing yet.
So annoying, annoyingly so.
She started contemplating confessing again. It’s just a Monster, what’s there to be unacceptable? She saved his life; offering herself is only natural, right? Plus, she saved her father-in-law’s life too.
Luo Ke glanced up and gave Zhong Shuping a lukewarm smile, leaving him thoroughly perplexed.
“Not angry anymore, Xiao Ke?” Zhong Qingxiao still didn’t understand, so what was his girlfriend angry about just now? He decided to ask her when they were alone.
To show she wasn’t angry anymore, Luo Ke leaned in and kissed Zhong Qingxiao on the cheek.
Zhong Qingxiao felt a bit embarrassed. See, he knew Xiao Ke was a sensible and gentle girl. If she disliked someone, she must have her reasons.
After dinner, Bai Lan and Zhu Yiming were called to discuss matters. During the meeting, Zhong Qingxiao couldn’t help but glance at Zhu Yiming and Luo Ke several times, but they seemed perfectly normal, without any apparent animosity.
“The weapons capable of causing fatal damage are only two, and they must stay together,” Bai Lan said. “Otherwise, if one fails to kill the Monster, we’re doomed.”
Zhong Qingxiao agreed, saying, “When searching for supplies, I’ll try to find more fire extinguishers to modify.”
When Room 1801 opened the door, expecting to see a dozen survivors in the corridor, they were surprised to find only nine left; the three troublemakers were gone.
Zhong Qingxiao wasn’t keen on dealing with those people anyway, so he felt relieved they were gone and started discussing team formation.
Luo Ke’s gaze roamed the crowd, her dark eyes meeting a pair of eyes that seemed to be smiling mockingly, belonging to someone grinning at her.
Ah, a fellow kind has sneaked in.
“Pretty sister,” the little girl bounced over, looking up at Luo Ke with a beaming smile. “We meet again.”
“Do you know each other?” Bai Lan asked, looking at the fair-skinned little girl, feeling a sudden lightness in her heart. If even a child like this was striving to survive, she had to work harder.
“No,” Luo Ke replied coldly.
This Monster was the first high-level creature she had seen among human mutations, yet it was a girl who had just turned six. It was hard not to doubt whether she truly had the ability to resist the Monster’s consciousness erosion.
If she suddenly changed…
[Are you thinking about how to kill me again, sister?]
The little girl continued to smile brightly, and Luo Ke didn’t answer, her expression as calm as ever.
[We’re the same kind, why harbor such hostility towards me? We’re both the same kind and the same gender.]
Bai Lan watched, sensing something was amiss. The little girl was clearly smiling, yet she found the smile unsettling. She shook her head, convinced she was just overly tense.
The team formation was finalized after an hour of discussion. Room 1801 initiated the process, and with Luo Meihua’s years of medical experience, she didn’t need to participate in patrols or Monster elimination, just stay home.
But Zhong Shuping couldn’t be exempted. Nine survivors, plus Room 1801 and Bai Lan, made 13 in total. Zhu Yiming was exempted from patrols due to his disability and ability to provide technical support.
Zhu Yiming breathed a sigh of relief. He had lost weight over the past few days, unable to count how many bowls of Instant Noodles he had eaten. Now, the smell of Instant Noodles made him nauseous.
Thankfully, they were going out to search for supplies.
“I definitely need to be in his group,” Luo Ke said, ignoring the little girl and standing by Zhong Qingxiao’s side as they divided into groups.
Her presence silenced the crowd. Wasn’t she the girl who shook hands with them at the door yesterday? She should have been the last to leave, so why didn’t the Monster attack her? What happened then? Did she escape?
Meanwhile, Luo Ke scrutinized these people. The woman who spoke to her earlier was still alive. Including her, there were three adult women, three adult men, a 15-year-old boy, and a normal human little girl.
If humans wanted to resist, she wouldn’t interfere, as long as they didn’t hinder her main tasks.
When searching for supplies, the group split into two teams. During regular patrols, two to three people formed a group, and a schedule was arranged so everyone could rest well.
Zhong Qingxiao wanted to find some meat because the staple foods at home were relatively abundant. He could do without them, but meat was a concern.
These were residential buildings, and after so many days, vegetables had long rotted and were inedible. However, meat was typically stored in the freezer, still offering a chance to eat.
They decided to search the top two floors of the 20-story building.
Most doors were security doors. If lucky, they might find one slightly ajar, but most required fingerprint locks or crowbars. After searching one floor, everyone was exhausted, leaving the 20th floor to another group. Anything found would be shared on the 18th floor.
No one thought of hoarding; everyone wore thin clothing with no place to hide anything. More than food, they hoped everyone could eat enough to have the strength to fight the Monster.
The harvest was decent. They found a large box of noodles in one household, enough to last a long time.
However, due to frequent power outages, the refrigerators were barely functioning, and every door they opened emitted a faint moldy and rotten smell. Shen City’s weather was getting hotter, reaching 29°C in mid-March, but in the current situation, no one cared about such trivial matters.
They didn’t find any meat, which worried Zhong Qingxiao. If this continued, he’d have to discuss the food issue with Xiao Ke.
The day had made progress; the Monster hadn’t appeared, which was both reassuring and unsettling, as night was approaching, and darkness was more terrifying than daylight.
Luo Ke returned home without a care. She wanted to take a shower and change her pad. Upon leaving the room, she noticed the pad she had placed in the cabinet was missing. She walked out, hearing the sound of water.
“Zhong Qingxiao,” Luo Ke’s voice suddenly appeared, startling Zhong Qingxiao.
“What’s wrong, Xiao Ke?” Zhong Qingxiao didn’t turn around, watching his girlfriend through the mirror.
Luo Ke’s gaze fell on what Zhong Qingxiao was washing, and she asked, “Is that the one I just changed?”
“…Yes.” Her straightforward question made Zhong Qingxiao a bit embarrassed, but he had seen the clothes she washed before, and… they were quite poorly done, with the milk tea stains not cleaned at all.
It was a simple task; Zhong Qingxiao didn’t mind doing it.
He was actually washing it for her. Luo Ke felt a subtle change in her heart. She unhesitatingly hugged Zhong Qingxiao’s waist from behind, pressing her face against his back, her voice soft, “I love you.”
That’s how human women express love in TV dramas, right? She must have learned it perfectly.
Zhong Qingxiao’s face turned completely red. He quickly hung the washed menstrual pad and wiped his hands before touching his girlfriend’s fingertips.
Familiar, slightly cool temperature, but Zhong Qingxiao really wanted to hold them tightly.
“There’s something, Xiao Ke.” Zhong Qingxiao turned around, leaning against the sink, the warm light above casting a gentle glow on his face, making him look even more gentle and handsome. His light-colored shirt was a bit wrinkled, seemingly soft, just like him.
“Yes.” Luo Ke responded, but she was already distracted, wanting to kiss him, to kiss him excessively.
“The meat at home is running low, and we didn’t find any today,” Zhong Qingxiao said. “Can you eat other food with everyone for the next few days?”
So it’s about that. Luo Ke didn’t really care. She cared about how to secretly find meat and bring it back, but she could survive for a long time without eating anything, so there was no need for dear wife to worry.
“Sure.” Luo Ke nodded. “I don’t like fish. You don’t have to cook the fish in the fridge for me.”
Zhong Qingxiao was surprised. He thought, given his girlfriend’s preference for meat, she would be troubled by this, but she agreed so easily.
Xiao Ke might just occasionally act a bit spoiled within permissible limits, but once she realized there was a real difficulty, she agreed without hesitation.
“I understand.” Zhong Qingxiao hugged her. These days, he was always under a lot of pressure, but his girlfriend always managed to relax his mind.
Luo Ke started kissing him again. Zhong Qingxiao leaned against the sink, making it convenient for her, but this was an open area, and she could clearly feel his tension. Despite this, Luo Ke mischievously extended her tongue. She had become quite skilled at kissing, easily rendering her dear wife powerless.
“Xiao…” Zhong Qingxiao was pressed against the cool sink, letting out faint, almost inaudible whimpers that Luo Ke heard clearly.
So obedient, so beautiful.
Luo Ke licked his lips with satisfaction. She was at 98% now, very close to fully merging with her True Form. Before that happened, she wanted to hear his answer about their intimate positions, and it had to be a satisfactory one.
“Are you tired today?” Luo Ke gently touched Zhong Qingxiao’s forehead, her eyes seemingly overflowing with affection. She was always a quick learner, and even this act of tenderness came naturally to her.
Zhong Qingxiao was completely captivated.
“Let’s wash up and go to bed early, okay?” Luo Ke’s usually cool voice carried a rare sweetness, almost like she was being coquettish.
Zhong Qingxiao’s ears turned red. He nodded under her gaze and walked into the bathroom to turn on the water.
Now that there was time to think about what Xiao Ke had mentioned about their intimate life, Zhong Qingxiao felt conflicted. Without internet, he couldn’t seek advice from others with similar experiences. Psychologically, he felt awkward, and physically, he seemed to reject the idea…
But Zhong Qingxiao really liked his young girlfriend. It was his first relationship, but he wasn’t completely clueless about love; he could accurately gauge his feelings.
If he disagreed, would she compromise? Or would she break up with him? Would she refuse to marry him because of this?
They had planned to get married.
If he agreed… what would happen? How would Xiao Ke do it? With her fingers? Just thinking about it made Zhong Qingxiao feel so embarrassed he could hardly breathe. How could he live normally with her afterward?
This bath took a bit longer than usual. He meticulously cleaned himself and couldn’t help but think-if he agreed, would he have to clean himself specially during baths in the future…
His face turned red again, unable to continue imagining.
The night passed relatively peacefully. When Zhong Qingxiao fell asleep, Luo Ke checked the mental states of the others in Room 1801. The results were acceptable; everyone was relatively stable.
But early the next morning, the people outside started causing trouble again, making noise as soon as it got light.
Luo Ke found it annoying. She really hated noise. She liked quiet because her hearing was very sensitive. Some sounds could be ignored, but if they exceeded a certain decibel level, they were just noise to her.
She had said it before, why bring those idiots to the 18th floor? She had already been merciful enough to save them once. Did she have to provide them with a place to stay too?
The noise outside woke up Zhong Qingxiao. Seeing Luo Ke sitting on the bed with a displeased expression, he hesitated and then said, “Did the noise wake you? I’ll go see what’s going on.”
Luo Ke watched his back. Zhong Qingxiao’s time should belong entirely to her. The apocalypse was not what she had imagined.
If she had to deal with these damn humans, her original intention of staying in this community for peace and quiet would be completely changed. She had chosen this place for its tranquility.
She hadn’t been much troubled by the monsters, but the human issues kept coming.
When Zhong Qingxiao went outside, he found out that the large box of noodles they had found yesterday was missing. It was the biggest batch of food they had found, and it was supposed to last for a while. But now, it was gone.
Luo Ke was impatient. Knowing it was valuable survival supplies, why didn’t they assign someone to guard it? If it was lost, they should just accept their fate. What were they making a fuss about?
She really wanted to drive these people away.
But strangely, no one had heard or seen anything. The supplies were just gone when they woke up, leading to the current noisy commotion with no conclusion.
From a distance, Luo Ke’s gaze fell on a little girl who was smiling at her. She understood immediately. But so what? Was she supposed to help these humans find food? If they valued it so much, they should have slept with it in their arms.
Luo Ke sneered and turned back into the room.
She hadn’t taken the matter to heart, but surprisingly, a few brave souls went out and brought back some supplies.
Hearing this, Zhong Qingxiao was surprised. He asked about the situation outside and how they managed to go out.
A 15-year-old boy spoke up, “That guy has an off-road vehicle in the underground parking lot. We went down there. Luckily, we didn’t encounter any monsters, but we didn’t dare stay out long. We just grabbed some stuff from a nearby supermarket.”
“Honestly, we weren’t the only ones out there.” A woman added, “When we got to the supermarket, there was hardly anything left, just some crushed instant noodles and moldy bread. These won’t last long.”
Zhong Qingxiao could hardly believe his ears. “You didn’t encounter any monsters? Not even in the stairwell?”
“No.” The boy, munching on bread, replied, “We were shocked. It felt like nothing much had changed outside, except there were fewer people… We even found a larger supermarket but heard some strange noises and didn’t dare continue. We hurried back.”
It was an unbelievably smooth trip, like they had incredible luck. The returning group could hardly believe it themselves.
Luo Ke stayed in her room, calculating the time. Zhong Qingxiao had been out for half an hour. Why wasn’t he back yet? What was he talking about with those people? Was it that interesting?
When Zhong Qingxiao returned, he seriously told her, “We plan to go out together to find more supplies.”
“We?” Luo Ke’s eyes narrowed, her displeasure evident. Zhong Qingxiao had gotten this close to them?
Now he wanted to go out with them, trying to escape her sight?
How dare he? How dare he talk to her like this? A pet trying to leave its owner to go out with others-was that acceptable?
99%.
The suppressed frustration pushed Luo Ke’s fusion progress another step forward.
Just 1% left.
“No, you’re not going.” Luo Ke’s voice turned firm.
Zhong Qingxiao had anticipated her reaction. He patiently explained, “It’s necessary to go out now. The supplies in the building are limited. If they’re gone, we won’t have any…”
“What does that have to do with us?” Luo Ke stared at him calmly. “We have enough food. Why get involved with them? Isn’t it good for us to stay at home? We’ve been safe and sound all this time. We don’t need them.”
She emphasized the last few words.
“But Xiao Ke…” Zhong Qingxiao took a deep breath. They only had rice and flour left, and the condiments were running out. The remaining supplies wouldn’t last a week.
If they went out together, there was a better chance of success. If they shut themselves off, they’d be in more danger later.
“So, you’re determined to go?” Luo Ke’s expression turned dark.
She had been unhappy for a long time. If she had known it would come to this, she should have let the monsters kill everyone in the building. Why should she keep making concessions for these foolish humans?
Did Zhong Qingxiao understand his position? She had already been kind enough to take in his useless father.
“Yes.” Zhong Qingxiao’s tone was firm. “I have to go. Bai Lan will come with us. You… stay at home.”
Luo Ke didn’t say anything but slammed the door shut.
Bang! The sound made Zhong Qingxiao step back. He frowned. He didn’t think he was wrong. Why was Luo Ke so angry? She had been so understanding about the meat issue.
Two flamethrowers, long-sleeved clothes, and comfortable shoes.
Zhong Qingxiao prepared and left. Luo Meihua and Zhong Shuping, unaware of their argument, worriedly reminded him to come back safely.
Most of the group going out were young. Bai Lan waited at the door. Seeing Zhong Qingxiao’s grim face, she asked, “What’s wrong?”
Zhong Qingxiao shook his head. “The stairwell leads directly to the underground parking lot. They won’t take the elevator, right?”
“Of course.” Bai Lan nervously clenched her fingers, her knuckles white. No one knew what they’d encounter outside.
But she had no food left. She couldn’t sit and wait. She brought a knife and a baseball bat.
“But Professor Zhong, your family shouldn’t be in such dire need of supplies, right?” Bai Lan asked.
Zhong Qingxiao replied, “No, we have four people at home. The consumption is fast.”
He wanted to use this chance to find some meat. If he could bring back beef, Xiao Ke might be happy.
Since they decided to go out, they would bring back a lot. They might not go out again for a while. He didn’t want to miss this chance.
And what if he found some sanitary pads? They were running out of paper.
Zhong Qingxiao was worried. He didn’t want to argue with Xiao Ke. What if he didn’t come back safely…
No, that wasn’t an option. He would return safely. Xiao Ke was probably just angry. They could talk it out.
If necessary, he could agree to what Xiao Ke wanted.
In the bedroom, the girl in the school uniform sat expressionlessly, staring out the window. Her skin color kept changing, from pale to dark red, alternating constantly.
A few minutes later, Luo Ke extended a hand, seamlessly transforming her human arm into a tentacle, as if it was always a part of her.
100%!
