My Girlfriend's a Monster - Chapter 27
The war between humans and Monsters had begun, and the panicked crowd was too focused on escaping to even think about fighting back. The relentless slaughter spread across the corridors of the 18th floor, accompanied by screams of terror.
Zhong Qingxiao gripped the flamethrower tightly, approaching silently. The new Monster seemed easier to kill due to its smaller size compared to the other one. Two flamethrowers should be sufficient to eliminate it. The other Monster, however, was uncertain; even two flamethrowers might not be enough to kill it.
The Zhong Family father and son were on high alert, closely monitoring the Monster’s movements, unaware that someone was following them from behind.
The hunting mode of the Brain Monster was quite straightforward. Its leg muscles appeared well-developed, while its arms were somewhat atrophied. It relied mainly on its tongue for hunting, with the sole purpose of feeding.
The other Monster was different. Its massive body was terrifying enough, but it also had arms that could stretch out to grab humans, pulling them close to slowly play them to death.
The smell of blood lingered in the hallway. Thanks to the timely appearance of the Zhong Family duo, the large-scale massacre had not yet begun, as the Monsters seemed to want to take their time.
Zhong Qingxiao said to his father, “We must aim to kill the Monster on the right with one use of the flamethrower, and try to save one for emergencies.”
Each use of the flamethrower required refilling, which took at least twenty minutes. If they failed to kill one Monster in one go, the danger they faced would multiply.
Zhong Shuping understood this and nodded.
The two maneuvered behind the Brain Monster. Even a Monster of ordinary size was two to three times larger than an adult man. Time was of the essence, and Zhong Qingxiao charged at the Monster.
The panicked crowd scattered, chased by the Monster. Some people fled downstairs, hindering Zhong Qingxiao’s approach, and the Brain Monster slowly turned to face him.
Zhong Qingxiao quickened his pace, rushing forward and forcefully pulling the flamethrower’s trigger. Fierce flames erupted from the nozzle, and the Monster let out a piercing shriek as it was engulfed in fire, charging madly at Zhong Qingxiao.
The distance between them was already short, and the Monster’s terrifying appearance was suddenly right in front of him. The flamethrower’s fuel was depleted.
Zhong Qingxiao felt his blood freeze in that moment, unable to turn and flee. The burning Brain Monster’s tongue lunged at him.
Just as he thought he was doomed, a hand suddenly pierced through the Brain Monster’s body-it belonged to the Giant Monster. The brief delay was enough for Zhong Qingxiao to turn and run.
In the shadows opposite, Luo Ke withdrew her hand, releasing control over the Monster on the 17th floor, while the Brain Monster was reduced to ashes by the flames.
What a surprise, they actually managed to kill a Monster. But killing the Primordial Entity would be much more challenging, wouldn’t it?
Perhaps Luo Ke’s manipulation had alerted the Giant Monster, causing it to turn abruptly, its dark eyes fixating on Luo Ke and Bai Lan not far behind.
Bai Lan gasped, “Why did it suddenly turn around?”
The panicked crowd was clearly shocked by the scene, looking at the young man holding the flamethrower with a shared thought-Monsters could actually be killed.
Zhong Qingxiao, about to reunite with his father, turned back and saw the Giant Monster slowly approaching Luo Ke. His eyes trembled, and without hesitation, he swapped the new flamethrower from Zhong Shuping and rushed toward them.
Zhong Shuping quickly followed.
“Xiao Ke!” Zhong Qingxiao deliberately shouted, hoping his voice would catch the Monster’s attention and stop it from approaching his girlfriend.
Luo Ke’s expression remained calm. No, it wouldn’t do.
The humans that needed dealing with hadn’t been dealt with yet. Why were those scumbags who set fires still standing among the crowd unharmed?
No, useless.
Luo Ke raised her eyes, her cold gaze meeting the Giant Monster’s-Are you useless? Stupid pig, only capable of eating dead corpses? You’re nothing but a garbage bin.
Her words were full of mockery, but only the Monster could hear them. The Giant Monster seemed enraged, staring at Luo Ke with a look that was anything but submissive.
Yet, even so, it dared not attack Luo Ke.
The laws among Monsters sometimes resembled those in the jungle, where fear of the king was instinctual, compelling them to bow.
But this didn’t mean Monsters were willing to obey the king’s orders.
The Giant Monster seemed to sense something, its entirely black eyes showing a hint of amusement. Bai Lan felt a chill, instinctively raising her weapon for defense.
In the next moment, a black arm suddenly reached for Zhong Qingxiao. The Monster didn’t even need to turn its head to accurately determine Zhong Qingxiao’s position. Zhong Qingxiao had already prepared for this, dodging swiftly, but the arm twisted and curved toward him. In a critical moment, Zhong Qingxiao felt as if someone had pulled him back, supporting his waist until he was stable before releasing their hands.
Zhong Qingxiao was stunned, looking at his father still several meters away, lost in thought. Was there someone behind him?
However, the situation didn’t allow him to ponder further. The Monster’s other arm bent toward him, and Zhong Qingxiao was backed against a glass barrier with nowhere to retreat.
“Qingxiao!” Zhong Shuping suddenly felt the moment had arrived, and without hesitation, he stepped in front of his son, facing the arm coming straight at him.
Tsk, very proactive. If the father-in-law dies, it will be troublesome.
What if dear wife mourns for three years for his useless father? The wedding date would be postponed.
Luo Ke raised her weapon without hesitation, striking down hard. The Monster’s arm, as thick as a man’s leg, was severed, snapping like a sugarcane.
Only then did Bai Lan see clearly what Luo Ke was holding-a cane!
This cane belonged to Zhong Shuping, used only when climbing stairs, otherwise left forgotten in the corner of the sofa, a custom-made luxury.
“Great quality, Father-in-law,” Luo Ke said, leaning on the cane with a perfunctory smile.
Zhong Shuping: “…”
“Xiao Ke, run!” Zhong Qingxiao grabbed his father with one hand and Luo Ke with the other, pulling them toward the house door. At this distance, Zhong Qingxiao was certain that a single flamethrower wouldn’t be enough to kill this Monster, so survival was the priority.
Luo Ke followed without hesitation. With her presence, the Monster wouldn’t dare launch a second attack, only moving toward another group of people.
“That was terrifying!” Bai Lan successfully caught up with them, supporting Zhong Shuping first. Zhong Shuping still looked serious, but his legs were already weak. The group returned to Room 1801 to refill the flamethrower for another attempt.
“Keke, you’re amazing, breaking the Monster’s arm with a cane!” Bai Lan was still shocked, wondering how much strength that required.
Luo Ke casually lied, “I was just so worried about Zhong Qingxiao that I suddenly found the courage.”
Zhong Qingxiao smiled lightly at her, relieved.
Fortunately, it was just a false alarm, and no one was hurt. But the screams in the hallway continued, and Luo Ke appeared thoughtful. The humans outside couldn’t possibly defeat the Primordial Entity; the Primordial Entity was very strong…
Should she really save them? Why should she save humans?
“Once this is refilled, I’ll go. Uncle should rest,” Bai Lan suggested.
Zhong Qingxiao had no objections; anyone could go, but he had to go, with no reason to retreat.
“We’ll go together. We’ll definitely need both flamethrowers at the same time. Let’s hope nothing goes wrong,” Zhong Qingxiao said.
Luo Ke’s expression darkened, and she decisively stood up.
“Xiao Ke, where are you going?” Zhong Qingxiao asked.
“Bathroom,” Luo Ke replied, locking the door.
The Monster continued its pursuit, seemingly enjoying tormenting the fleeing crowd, trampling those who couldn’t outrun it into pulp-not for feeding, but purely for slaughter.
Three thugs were also fleeing among the crowd, even pushing others down to slow the Monster’s pace for their own escape.
The doors to the stairwells were somehow closed, requiring at least a minute to open. No one had the time or courage to open them alone. They fled in panic until the door to Building A’s stairwell opened, and the girl from Room 1801 stood at the entrance, watching them with a smile that didn’t reach her eyes.
Luo Ke: “Aren’t you coming?”
The people hesitated, then rushed over.
“You have to shake my hand to pass.”
Despite being a slender and beautiful girl, her strength was astonishing, blocking the door like an immovable boulder.
So the people began to comply, hurriedly shaking hands with the girl.
One, two, two…
Luo Ke counted silently. Originally 16 survivors, one killed, the Monster killed four, excluding the three scumbags, leaving 8 people.
Very convenient, the three thugs charged through the crowd, knives in hand. Luo Ke withdrew her hand, smiling at them.
What’s going on? This girl is so strange… Flat-Top Man sensed something was wrong, glaring at Bald Man fiercely. Short-lived fool, dragged down by him today!
It didn’t take long for all 8 people to shake hands. They fled in such haste that they left their shoes behind, not looking back.
Thud, thud, thud, the Giant Monster approached, its abyss-like eyes meeting Luo Ke’s.
Luo Ke helpfully pointed the way, “They all went downstairs.”
The Monster chased after them, and with a bang, the door was barely holding up.
Luo Ke disdainfully sniffed her hand, stealthily returning to the bathroom at home, washing her hands five or six times.
“Xiao Ke?” Zhong Qingxiao’s voice sounded outside the door, “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine.” Luo Ke was about to get up when she felt an unusual sensation below. Looking down, she saw bright red blood on the tiles.
“Zhong Qingxiao,” her voice was somewhat troubled, “I’ve got my period.”
With that, Luo Ke opened the door without hesitation, and Zhong Qingxiao stared at the blood trickling down her leg in shock.
