My Girlfriend's a Monster - Chapter 23
Dinner was quite enjoyable for Luo Ke. The delicious meat was meticulously cooked, and such fine food should be offered to a deity like her.
However, throughout the meal, no one else spoke. She was the only one who seemed happy, even her sweet and soft dear wife looked a bit troubled.
“What’s wrong?” Luo Ke asked, biting her fork.
Bai Lan gave a wry smile and said, “We all feel that a few people in that group have hostile looks in their eyes. It seems they won’t obediently follow orders to fight the monsters.”
Earlier, they had discussed that Luo Meihua, being a valuable medical personnel, should stay home for protection. Zhu Yiming was temporarily kept because he could make some useful products, and he was injured and needed Luo Meihua’s care.
Bai Lan, an ordinary person, was exceptionally allowed to stay because she had given Luo Ke some particularly delicious meat. As for Zhong Shuping, Luo Ke found him quite annoying, but he was Zhong Qingxiao’s father.
To deal with the monsters, it wasn’t enough to just hold weapons for defense. They needed to plan and train, like hunting a large beast. Moreover, there were only two truly lethal flamethrowers, which required a special refill after each use, consuming time and effort. They had to be used wisely.
These people could probably handle one monster at a time. If there were more, there would definitely be casualties.
So they decided it was best to clearly assign tasks to everyone to avoid chaos. If they were ordinary people, it was likely they could be persuaded to fight the monsters together. But a few troublemakers were obvious, and when Zhong Qingxiao went out to call Luo Ke back home, he noticed their unfriendly looks, standing out in the crowd.
Luo Ke didn’t understand what there was to worry about. She naturally said, “Just get rid of them, won’t that solve the problem?”
“It’s not that easy, silly child,” Luo Meihua sighed. They were all ordinary people, and honestly, it was already commendable that they managed to stay calm and think of solutions in such a situation. Initially, they hadn’t considered that there might be difficult people among the survivors.
They thought everyone living in the same building, facing the monsters, would naturally resist together.
See, that’s humanity. Always worrying unnecessarily. If they stayed under her protection, wouldn’t everything be fine? They were the ones who wanted to unite with others.
Perhaps seeing everyone’s low spirits, Zhong Qingxiao spoke up, “I’ll handle the negotiations. I’ll go talk to them. We can provide weapons for self-defense. If they agree to join, we’ll give them weapons. Don’t worry too much, I’ll do my best.”
That was the plan for now. After lunch, Zhu Yiming continued to work on improving the weapons, and Zhong Shuping, who had a science background in his youth, offered to help. Zhong Qingxiao dressed up to go out and negotiate with the people outside, and Luo Ke followed closely behind.
“Keke,” Bai Lan called out, “Where are you going?”
She was worried that Luo Ke, dressed like that, might attract bad intentions from the unfriendly people she had seen. She feared Luo Ke’s appearance might provoke their already malicious thoughts.
Luo Ke turned back, “I don’t feel at ease.”
Her voice wasn’t low, and Zhong Qingxiao, who was putting on his shoes at the entrance, heard her. He paused, a warm feeling rising in his heart, and smiled at Luo Ke, “Don’t worry about me, Xiao Ke. I’ll be nearby. I’ll be back soon.”
Better be. Luo Ke silently replied in her heart, still not taking her eyes off Zhong Qingxiao.
Her behavior made Bai Lan smile like an aunt. Bai Lan really wanted to talk about something lighthearted. She wanted to relax too.
“Do you like him that much?” Bai Lan asked softly.
Luo Ke turned her gaze, her clear eyes meeting Bai Lan’s smiling ones, and nodded without hesitation.
What else?
Bai Lan smiled, “But Keke, your affection is tenfold, yet you show less than one-tenth of it.”
Luo Ke didn’t understand. What did that mean? She was already forcing herself to restrain. How could she be seen as insufficient in human eyes?
“Your interactions with Mr. Zhong are too restrained. I think girls can act more coquettishly. You could smile at him more,” Bai Lan suggested.
Luo Ke listened to Bai Lan’s words and shook her head in disagreement, asking, “Why should I act coquettishly?”
Bai Lan was taken aback. Was Luo Ke trying to change the rules in this matter too? She seriously explained, “When you like someone, you naturally want to act coquettishly. When you see the person you like, you naturally want to smile. Don’t you feel that? It’s not just because you’re a girl.”
Luo Ke pursed her lips. She did feel naturally inclined to touch him, kiss him, caress him, hug him, possess him.
What use were coquettishness and smiles? They didn’t bring any tangible benefits.
Do human males like that? Would Zhong Qingxiao want to run away from her if other women acted coquettishly and smiled at him?
Was she not the only one?
A master should be the only one. How could a master engage in such fawning behavior?
She could completely control Zhong Qingxiao’s life and death. Wasn’t that the reason he stayed by her side?
For a moment, Luo Ke’s expression was deep and unreadable, leaving Bai Lan speechless. Did Luo Ke have more experience in romance than her? Did Professor Zhong actually like her approach?
Or did Luo Ke not like Professor Zhong that much?
Bai Lan bit her lip and tentatively asked, “You should have feelings for Mr. Zhong, right?”
“Feelings?” Luo Ke bit her lip and shook her head, “What kind of feelings?”
Did she need feelings? Wasn’t the heart just an organ for pumping blood?
“You don’t know?!” Bai Lan exclaimed, “It’s like your heart races, skips a beat, or slows down!”
?
Luo Ke was puzzled. Was it fast, slow, or stopped? Did she need to stop her heart? Did she need to commit suicide?
Seeing her still blank expression, Bai Lan hurriedly added, “It’s like watching a horror movie!”
“Horror movie?” Luo Ke pondered. She hadn’t watched such films. Were they better than adult comics? Could they make her feel human love?
But she didn’t feel anything special watching adult comics.
Those comics weren’t as thrilling as watching Zhong Qingxiao bathe.
Bai Lan completely gave up. Keke seemed like a single person from birth. She hadn’t grasped any of the keywords Bai Lan mentioned.
“Forget it,” Luo Ke turned away. Zhong Qingxiao had been out for several minutes. She was curious how he would persuade those people.
Opening the door, she saw Zhong Qingxiao standing in the corridor, bathed in sunlight, like an angel fallen to earth.
Luo Ke stared at him, watching his every hair, every expression, his lips moving with words, his usual gentle demeanor.
Zhong Qingxiao. Luo Ke silently mouthed his name.
Feelings? What kind of feeling was that? She had watched many romance dramas. Weren’t the women’s actions upon seeing men just exaggerated performances? It was just acting.
Why did Bai Lan speak as if it were real?
“Pretty boy!” A sudden shout from the corridor interrupted her thoughts, “How long are you going to stand there babbling?”
Luo Ke’s attention was drawn to a bald man standing up and cursing at Zhong Qingxiao, using words she didn’t like.
“If you want us to fight the monsters, show some sincerity. Give us good food. Who has the strength to mess around on an empty stomach? Or are you just talking big and want us to risk our lives?” The man, looking fierce, approached Zhong Qingxiao as if ready to fight.
Zhong Qingxiao frowned but showed no fear. He had trained his body well. If he feared humans, how could he protect his family from monsters?
“I said it’s voluntary,” Zhong Qingxiao repeated, “If you don’t want to, you don’t have to participate.”
“You…” The man was about to continue cursing when Luo Ke’s eyes darkened, and she coldly snorted.
As her voice fell, the bald man suddenly opened his mouth wide but couldn’t speak. He clawed at his mouth, one hand clutching his throat, looking like he was choking.
Zhong Qingxiao stepped back, and the crowd was shocked. What was happening to him? He looked like he was choking on a fishbone.
The bald man was in extreme pain, feeling something hard and slippery like a stone being shoved down his throat, causing intense pain and nausea. He clawed at his throat but found nothing, feeling the thing going deeper.
The bald man fell to the ground, writhing in pain, his screams echoing. His unusual behavior scared everyone, even his followers were at a loss. One of them, a flat-top man, rushed forward, pointing at Zhong Qingxiao, “What did you do to our boss?”
Zhong Qingxiao frowned and stepped back, “I did nothing. Everyone here can vouch for me.”
“Stop pretending!” The flat-top man signaled his followers to cause trouble, but a cold voice turned the situation around.
“You’d better stay away from him,” Luo Ke walked over, calmly looking at the bald man writhing on the ground, “You know people turn into monsters, right? Doesn’t he look like he’s about to change?”
Her words caused an explosion of fear. People screamed and backed away, leaving the bald man several meters away. He looked like he was about to turn into a monster, writhing more violently.
“Ahhh!” One of the followers, holding an iron rod, rushed forward and hit the bald man’s head, blood splattering, causing more screams.
“Idiot, what are you doing? That’s our boss!”
“What boss? He’s turning into a monster! Didn’t you hear?”
Luo Ke chuckled, retracting her hard tentacle, wiping it clean on the bald man.
Humans were so interesting.
“Xiao Ke,” a familiar hand gently covered Luo Ke’s eyes, with a familiar scent and warmth. It was Zhong Qingxiao. He whispered, “Let’s go home.”
Then he addressed the others, “Please consider what I said carefully.”
Before he finished, Zhong Qingxiao felt a tickle in his palm. His heart skipped a beat, and he looked down to see his girlfriend kissing his palm softly.
The rational Zhong Qingxiao, who had just faced off with a villain, suddenly blushed at this light kiss.
“Xiao Ke!” He murmured helplessly, his voice tinged with a hint of affection he didn’t even notice.
“Aren’t we going home?” Luo Ke blinked.
Zhong Qingxiao tightened his grip on her hand and nodded, “Yes, let’s go home now.”
