Morphing Heavens - Chapter 91 - I Want Fairness Too
The situation inside the arena remained quiet. It seemed less like a competition and more like a casual outing. Yun Huo strolled around the edge of the arena, occasionally greeting his brothers, looking relaxed and at ease.
On the other side, Zhang Deguan squatted by the edge of the arena, conversing with his subordinates beneath the platform. However, judging by his expression, it was likely not a pleasant matter.
The host stood on the platform, bathed in the scorching sunlight, dressed in a black suit, which absorbed the heat. He wiped the sweat from his forehead while keeping an eye on the competition, but the arena was inexplicably quiet. After hosting competitions for so many years, he faced such a rare situation of a standstill for the first time. Seeing that neither participant seemed inclined to resume the fight, he considered prompting them but realized the rules didn’t explicitly prohibit taking a break. A short rest could be somewhat understandable, so he could only wait on the sidelines for them to continue.
The referee standing by the edge of the arena gestured several times to the host, indicating whether he should intervene, but the host shook his head in refusal. He understood the personalities and standings of these combatants well. For this competition, they were cash cows, and irritating them could mean losing a source of income in the future. So, he opted to wait for them to sort things out themselves. Since there was nothing to do here, he figured he might as well go to the entrance of the arena to manage the traffic and let the caravans of merchants arriving from afar in. This was also a major highlight of the event, as the revenue from them was certainly more than the ticket sales. Most importantly, it was a chance to cool off; the platform was incredibly hot, and adjustments would need to be made for the next competition.
The arena continued to exhibit an air of tranquility, with Yun Huo leaning lazily in mid-air, supported by spatial power. He looked so relaxed that it seemed he might fall asleep.
Seeing this, some spectators in the stands began to grow impatient after waiting for an hour and a half. Not only were the two not fighting, but they were also taking a break. While resting could be understandable, neither was recovering their stamina; they simply stood around lazily. Yun Huo was even lying down-it was practically a forfeit!
At that moment, someone could no longer contain their boredom and shouted at the arena, “What’s going on with you two?”
“Are you going to fight or not? If not, just wrap it up. We’re waiting for the results!”
“Hurry up! Fight already! Stop the nonsense!” The crowd’s emotions grew increasingly fervent.
Amidst the clamor, Kebalu stood up and shouted, “What are you shouting about? If you want to fight, get down there and do it! Can’t you see they’re discussing something important?”
His loud reprimand quieted the audience, and they fell silent, continuing to wait for some change in the arena.
As a demon beast, Kebalu had exceptionally sensitive hearing. After listening to Yun Huo’s words and seeing the current state of the two competitors, he couldn’t help but reflect on his own unfortunate experiences as a demon beast. The members of his clan were utterly disconnected from one another; only those who had reached martial overlord level could participate in clan meetings. Those captured clan members were disregarded, leading some hunters to exploit the situation. Many young demon beasts of average strength were captured, either for medicinal purposes or to be sold as meat or leather. Not a single one of those taken had ever returned alive. Lost in thought, Kebalu slammed his fist down onto the ground, leaving a mark on the stone seat. He stood up, picked up his clothes, and walked back to his apartment. The outcome of the match no longer mattered to him; he just wanted both sides to wrap things up quickly.
At that moment, more and more competitors were leaving the arena, and the situation had become clear. Unless Yun Huo conceded, Zhang Deguan had no chance of winning.
Half an hour later, Zhang Deguan raised his head and walked over to Yun Huo, speaking stubbornly, “Today, I’ll trust you for once and believe that you truly see that girl as family!” Yun Huo’s words had deeply touched him. It wasn’t about rescuing one person at a time; it was about changing the perceptions of his clan members and ensuring that those who escaped their shackles would not be disheartened again.
Hearing this, Yun Huo smiled and said, “Hehe. So, are you jumping down yourself, or should I kick you off?” With the situation clearly resolved, anyone with sense could see it.
At that moment, a smile appeared on Zhang Deguan’s otherwise stoic face. “Haha, do me a favor, alright?” With that, he clutched his stomach and limped off the arena.
Watching him leave with a limp, Yun Huo called out, “Actually, I want all clans to be treated equally too!”
“Let’s hope so… Congratulations on making it to the finals!” Zhang Deguan was soon enveloped by his subordinates and led away.
The referee quickly announced Yun Huo’s advancement, and the host, who had long been impatient, jumped onto the platform. He waved his hands and said, “What a thrilling and spectacular match! Let us give a warm round of applause to both competitors.” The stands erupted in cheers; it had finally come to an end… Some competitors who understood the situation stood up to show their respect.
After the applause subsided, the host continued, “This competition has now been underway for a week, comprising several rounds of brutal eliminations. Only two teams remain: Makin Tina’s four-member squad from the insect spirit clan, and the Yun family’s six brothers who have endured a grueling journey to reach this point. Let’s encourage them once more with our applause.”
The cheers gradually quieted, and the host raised his hand. “Alright, today’s event is concluded. The finals will be held a week from now. Please be sure to tune in!”
