Missed You While Waiting in the Rain - Chapter 6
Jiang Xingran was right; after the release of sorrowful emotions, they gradually weaken over time.
I only occasionally find myself momentarily stunned when I see the skirt grandpa once mended for me, then silently wipe away the tears at the corner of my eyes.
I can clearly feel that perhaps because we talked about life and death together, my relationship with Jiang Xingran has noticeably taken a step forward since that night.
Previously, it was only because of Han Ze that we had any semblance of acquaintance.
Even though we had added each other on WeChat long ago, we hadn’t exchanged more than a few words.
As a result, after having meals with Jiang Xingran twice at the graduate student cafeteria, I unexpectedly found myself mentioned on the school’s Confession Wall.
“Xia Min, senior sister from the School of Optoelectronics, can’t you just focus on your senior-junior romance? Is it interesting to entice two junior brothers to fight over you to prove your charm?”
Before this, I didn’t even know where to look for the school’s Confession Wall.
It was Xiao Chuan who sent me the link and screenshot, and that’s how I found out I was mentioned.
I could only feel helpless: “What is all this about?”
Xiao Chuan was furious: “Han Ze did such a thing, is it wrong for a passerby to punch him out of righteousness? Besides, you’ve already broken up with him, so what if Jiang Xingran likes you?”
In fact, during these days of interaction, Jiang Xingran has always maintained his boundaries, and I had almost forgotten the few words he initially said that night.
But now that Xiao Chuan mentioned it, I remembered.
Jiang Xingran indeed said he had feelings for me for a long time.
But the two-year relationship with Han Ze had already consumed too much of my energy.
At least for now, I don’t have the energy to invest in a new relationship.
I originally planned to pretend I hadn’t seen it, but as soon as I went downstairs, I saw Jiang Xingran waiting outside the door, with Han Ze a few steps away from him.
The two of them lived in neighboring dorms and were on the same basketball team. Although, as Jiang Xingran said, they weren’t very close, their relationship wasn’t strained to this extent.
Seeing me come out, Han Ze’s eyes lit up slightly, but then dimmed when he saw me walk straight towards Jiang Xingran.
“Xia Min…”
He called softly.
Jiang Xingran glanced at him coldly, then turned his gaze back to me: “Did you see the Confession Wall?”
“Yes.”
He took out his phone, tapped a few times, and handed it to me: “I’ve already had them post a clarification. Don’t worry, I won’t be a burden to you.”
I looked closely; Jiang Xingran had posted a message on the Confession Wall:
“I’m Jiang Xingran. The conflict with Han Ze was simply because I couldn’t stand some of his actions, so I acted out of righteousness. As for appearing in the cafeteria with senior sister Xia Min, it’s because I hadn’t tried the graduate student cafeteria food before and was interested, that’s all.”
Scrolling down, there was even Han Ze’s clarification: “What does the matter between Xia Min and me have to do with you? Mind your own business.”
“…”
I sighed, watching Han Ze silently inch closer, whispering: “Did I cause you trouble again?”
“…Don’t call me that.”
I had to remind him once more, “Han Ze, we’re over, do you understand?”
His lips trembled slightly:
“But I don’t want it to end, Xia Min. I really know I was wrong. I shouldn’t have made you angry, shouldn’t have deliberately made you jealous with those girls. There’s really nothing between me and them, and that night…”
He paused slightly.
“If I had known that night would be so difficult, I would have done anything to be by your side.”
He was still the same as before, speaking sweet words with utmost sincerity, his eyes looking at me filled with deep affection.
But in my heart, there wasn’t even a ripple.
All my passionate love, and the patience born from love, had burned away under the streetlight that night, when he uttered those words.
All that remained was weariness.
Seeing Han Ze about to speak again, Jiang Xingran spoke, his voice cold:
“Han Ze, you’ve grown to twenty without facing setbacks; to you, these are just minor issues that will pass with time.”
“But some wounds never heal-stop bothering Xia Min.”
These words were not polite, and given Han Ze’s usual spoiled nature, I thought he would question Jiang Xingran, asking what position he was speaking from.
But he remained silent for a while, only to speak with some bitterness: “So, I still lost to you.”
