Master of Heaven and Earth - Chapter 122 - The Minimalist Way
quite so exaggerated, it is still terrifying; Leng Yan had practiced for fifteen years, while only a month had passed in the real world.
After emerging from the back mountain, Leng Yan returned to Amethyst Peak.
Xuelan had exited her closed-door cultivation slightly earlier. With the help of the spirit refining elixir, she successfully reached the realm of heaven and earth dharma form, and even broke through to the mid-stage, greatly increasing her strength.
Xuelan was ecstatic after breaking through two realms and thought to herself that she was still Leng Yan’s capable assistant, which made her even happier. She took out her cherished flower tea and started brewing it, intending to reward herself.
However, when she saw Leng Yan flying back to Amethyst Peak, she was taken aback.
She could no longer see through Leng Yan’s realm, which meant that Leng Yan’s current level was already higher than hers.
How is that possible? I needed the spirit refining elixir to jump two realms, and he was at the golden core level before his closed-door cultivation! Xuelan couldn’t believe it, and the teapot in her hand fell to the ground.
Leng Yan frowned, looking at Xuelan’s dazed expression. “What’s wrong? You dropped the teapot.”
“What did you do? Did you take some sort of drug? Don’t you realize your realm is unstable? I know you’re anxious, but you can’t ruin your future like this!” Xuelan snapped back to reality and asked urgently.
“Don’t worry, I achieved this through normal cultivation. As for the reason, I have my own tricks; I’ll explain it to you when I have time later.” Leng Yan smiled gently, patiently replying.
Xuelan was doubtful, but she didn’t press further; everyone has their own hidden methods. Leng Yan had his, and she certainly had hers too.
“Then what’s your current realm?” Xuelan asked.
Leng Yan didn’t answer directly but released his aura, clearly displaying the later stage of heaven and earth dharma form.
“I still suspect you took some drugs,” Xuelan said, with a serious expression.
Leng Yan was speechless and changed the subject. “Stop worrying and hurry up and brew the tea. I haven’t had any in a long time.”
“But it’s only been a month,” Xuelan mumbled quietly, yet she quickly picked up the teapot from the ground and resumed brewing.
Leng Yan smiled without saying much. The secret of the Immortal Land was something only his closest ones could know, and for now, that was only Yunyao.
“Yunyao, you must wait for me!” Leng Yan clenched his fists, his gaze resolute.
Leng Yan sensed the growth in strength he had achieved over these “fifteen years.” Now, with all his means combined and boosted by the sacrificial power, he should be able to confront the Void Profundity old monster on his own. Leng Yan was contemplating this in his heart.
However, something still felt missing. What exactly was it that was lacking? Leng Yan was puzzled.
After drinking the tea brewed by Xuelan, Leng Yan called for Fat Guy. “Gather a few of our brothers; I have something to say.”
Fat Guy agreed and, shortly after, had everyone assembled.
Leng Yan organized his thoughts. “I need to tell you that the time when I will need you is fast approaching, but your current strength is far from enough. I need each of you to reach the realm of heaven and earth dharma form within two months!”
“Two months? How is that even possible?”
“Yeah, that’s asking too much.”
…
The crowd groaned in discontent.
Leng Yan raised his hands to quiet them. “I will take you all to a secret realm soon. In this secret realm, time flows differently than in the outside world-one year inside is equivalent to one day outside. However, for unknown reasons, an individual can only stay for up to one month of outside time before being ejected by an unknown force.” Leng Yan deliberately concealed the truth about the Immortal Land, pretending it was a description of the secret realm.
After a pause, he continued, “So you will have a total of thirty years to break through! During this time, everyone should prepare yourselves. In a month, I will take you inside.”
Once the others heard about this secret realm, they were astonished, but more than that, they were excited! How could anyone not be thrilled at the prospect of having thirty extra years for cultivation?
“Lastly, if you have any questions about the two cultivation techniques you’ve been practicing recently, feel free to ask me,” Leng Yan added.
…
“Senior Brother, I have a question.” One of the junior brothers respectfully inquired.
“Go ahead.”
“When I practice the seven emotions and six desires technique, I always feel that my learning is too scattered, and it goes against the essence of the technique, but I can’t find any evidence to support this feeling. It just feels that way to me.”
Leng Yan furrowed his brow, momentarily unable to respond.
It was too scattered, too scattered.
It went against the essence of the seven emotions and six desires technique.
Too scattered, too scattered.
If it’s too scattered, then wouldn’t it be better to simplify things?
The more Leng Yan thought about it, the deeper he became absorbed in his meditation, leaving his junior brothers behind.
Fat Guy, being somewhat perceptive, noticed his senior brother’s state and quickly motioned for the others to step back. He then went to find Xuelan, asking her to act as a guardian for Leng Yan.
“Leng Yan, how can you comprehend so deeply?” Xuelan mused as she watched Leng Yan in deep meditation, her thoughts drifting.
Leng Yan finally understood what he had been missing.
Or rather, what he had too much of.
Throughout his journey, he had learned far too many techniques-assassination, sword techniques, dao magic, hammer techniques, boxing techniques, and various cultivation techniques like the Five Elements Dao Magic. There was just too much.
Indeed, having many skills is beneficial, and Leng Yan’s eclectic knowledge had helped him overcome countless obstacles.
But he knew that oneness is the essence of all things.
Why was it so difficult for the Five Elements to merge? Was it because of their properties of mutual restriction? No, that’s just a minor factor. The main reason is that once the properties of the Five Elements truly fuse, their power becomes so immense that this world cannot handle it.
And why does the Sword of Heaven and Earth wield such colossal power? It can even tear the heavens apart! The key lies in its simplicity-one sword, pure and uncompromising, gathering all the energy of the world, concentrating it into that one strike!
With one sword, even heaven and earth tremble!
The ultimate power never announces itself through extravagant displays but rather through a simple sword strike, a single punch, or a mere palm strike-nothing more.
The mortal heart that Leng Yan cultivated in the Immortal Land follows this same principle: returning to the essence, seeking the most fundamental form of power.
After he developed his mortal heart, Leng Yan had always felt like something was missing, leaving him feeling uneasy.
Now it became clear-it was because his learning was too scattered, his techniques too flashy. Though they appeared powerful, they were less effective than if he had focused his thoughts on the actual impact of the techniques themselves.
Thus, Leng Yan realized that he had to make a change.
With this thought in mind, he wasted no more time. He discarded all the cultivation techniques he had learned before, keeping only the Demon God Technique he formed by merging the seven emotions and six desires technique with the Nine Yin Fiend God Technique, as well as the Primordial Technique that he upgraded from the Five Elements Emperor Technique.
Indeed, Leng Yan’s strength had already reached the realm of heaven and earth dharma form, and with his rising power, the Five Elements Emperor Technique had achieved a qualitative leap. It had now ascended to the “True God Realm,” transforming into the legendary Chaos Technique.
The Chaos Technique embodies the essence of chaos, seizing the creation of heaven and earth and opening up the primordial void, allowing all beings to be reborn. It can cleanse the meridians and temper the physical body!
Once the Chaos Technique is cultivated to a certain level, it can unleash an attack known as ‘Chaos,’ causing those struck by it to suffer from the overwhelming power of chaos.
Upon mastering the Chaos Technique, Leng Yan could even, like the ancient titans, tear through chaos and forge a new small world!
These two cultivation techniques were the highest quality and most powerful of what Leng Yan had learned so far.
Retaining these two techniques was entirely sufficient for Leng Yan to deal with the upcoming enemies.
However, this alone was definitely not enough. Since the Great Dao is fundamentally one, could the Demon God Technique merge with the Primordial Technique? Leng Yan was startled by this absurd thought-how could two different techniques possibly be combined?
But wait, it might be possible!
Leng Yan attempted to operate both techniques simultaneously. Yet, without a doubt, the two distinct techniques could hardly be run together within the human body; they would repel each other because they did not belong to the same type of energy.
However, this repulsion transformed into nothingness in front of Leng Yan!
He drew energy from his Dantian, managing to run both techniques at once, allowing the two different energies to counterbalance each other. Leng Yan focused intently, ensuring that both forces were evenly matched. The magic of the Demon God Technique and the Chaos Power of the Primordial Technique gradually ceased their “hostilities” as they integrated.
Seeing this, Leng Yan became convinced that the techniques could indeed merge. He began to increase the intensity, fusing the two techniques together!
Xuelan looked at Leng Yan with great curiosity. He was alternatingly emitting two different energies, both of which she could sense were incredibly powerful-forces that could only be cultivated through top-level techniques! Now, she noticed that these two energies began to appear simultaneously. At first, they were both restless, unwilling to yield to one another. But as time passed, the energies gradually started to merge, ultimately forming another formidable power! This new force was undeniably greater than the sum of the two original energies.
“Could this guy really be merging two cultivation techniques? I’ve never heard of anyone succeeding at that,” Xuelan thought in disbelief.
Suddenly, Leng Yan opened his eyes, and a powerful aura exploded from his body, shaking the surrounding space! The people on Amethyst Peak were startled and flew out of their mansions, thinking that a strong practitioner had come to defy the heavens and change their fate.
“Indeed, the merged technique is truly powerful! Since it’s a fusion of the Demon God Technique and the Primordial Technique, I shall call it the Demon Mixing Technique!” Leng Yan muttered after opening his eyes, completely unaware of Xuelan’s shock beside him.
“Shouldn’t I also name my concept of returning all things to one? By discarding the chaotic and retaining the simplest essence, I’ll call it the Minimalist Way,” he pondered for a moment, speaking to himself.
…
Since techniques could merge, could various magical techniques do the same?
Having tasted success with the fusion of cultivation techniques, Leng Yan turned his attention to the magical techniques he practiced.
