Maoshan Academy of Dark Secret Techniques - Chapter 5 - Ghost Wall
The girl seemed a bit upset at this point. “I knew you wouldn’t take me with you. Forget it, I’m not interested anymore. I won’t stop you, but please don’t let anything bad happen, okay? After all, we’re sort of friends. I trust you. But listen, at 2 a.m. sharp-if you don’t come out, I won’t call the police right away. I’ll bring all my friends to rescue you.”
Chen Yu felt a little touched. “No, you must call the police. If you’re going to come, make sure you come with the police.”
A group of kids might be large in numbers, but to a ghost, it would just be a convenient midnight snack. The righteous energy that police carry far outweighs a bunch of helpless kids, after all.
“Alright, I promise. Just be careful. Here, I have a long-range flashlight that I bought on Taobao1. Take it with you.”
“Okay.” With the flashlight in hand, Chen Yu said goodbye to the girl and headed toward the school.
Overwhelmed by fear and anxiety, Chen Yu arrived at the front of the school. The main gates were already locked at this hour. The girl had told him that there was only one way to get in at night-behind the garbage heap, there was a wall just over a meter high. It was easy to climb over, and everyone used it when they skipped classes back in the day.
Circling the school, Chen Yu indeed found the low wall behind the garbage heap. He climbed over it effortlessly-this must have been an oversight by the school administration. On the other side of the wall was the dormitory. Because classes were currently suspended, the dormitory was completely empty. It looked pitch black and eerily quiet. Chen Yu didn’t dare to glance at the windows for fear of seeing ghostly faces staring back at him.
After passing the dormitory, he arrived at the canteen, which used to be the site of the old restroom. The sight of it gave Chen Yu a sinking feeling-it was ominous and terrifying. The school was now especially silent, and even his own footsteps sounded unnervingly loud. Shining his flashlight, Chen Yu didn’t dare step inside. The sheer proximity to the ghost’s presence felt suffocating enough to rob him of breath.
The canteen didn’t have a door, but Chen Yu hesitated to enter. He walked around the building instead, discovering that the canteen had two floors. The upper floor was primarily used for self-serve dining and for teachers, while the ground floor was where most of the regular students ate. According to the non-mainstream student, the ground floor used to be a girls’ dormitory.
Chen Yu glanced at his watch-it was already 11:30 p.m. It wouldn’t be long before the ghost baby was expected to appear. At this moment, Chen Yu’s heart was racing so fast it might as well have been beating 200 times a minute. After a long internal struggle, he finally stepped into the canteen. The open doorway loomed before him like a gaping mouth, waiting for Chen Yu to willingly walk into it.
Chen Yu walked into the canteen, where the tables and the food serving area looked so familiar. Everyone has memories of queuing for meals, sometimes even trying to curry favor with the uncle serving food just to get an extra slice of meat. Looking back, it really is amusing.
As Chen Yu stood by the table reminiscing, thinking about his middle school days, he realized that even though he had just left school not long ago, those memories were unforgettable for everyone. Just as Chen Yu was chuckling at himself, the lights in the canteen suddenly switched on, startling him into standing up. “Who’s there?!”
Then the lights went out again.
A strange voice echoed throughout the canteen.
“Mommy, Mommy.”
“Who? Who is it?!”
“Mommy, why don’t you want me?”
A ghost baby? Has it come? I didn’t expect it to arrive so soon. What should I do?
At that moment, the lights flickered back on.
Suddenly, a child appeared in front of Chen Yu, sitting inside a schoolbag, poking out its head and hands. Its face was covered in blood, and its eyes were wide, as if they were going to pop out.
“Dad, Dad, is that you?”
“Ah! Who’s your dad? I’m not! I’m not!”
Facing a ghost directly for the first time, Chen Yu couldn’t handle the suffocating fear. He turned and ran straight toward the canteen door, which was just ahead.
But when Chen Yu reached the entrance, he realized that it was not the canteen door at all; he had ended up in the canteen’s backyard, the nearest area to the Women’s Restroom.
Breathing heavily, Chen Yu thought, “The ghost baby really appeared. Is this what they call a ghost wall? It seems if I don’t keep moving forward today, I might just die.”
Suppressing his fear, he ventured deeper into the backyard, which mainly stored ingredients bought by the canteen and housed chickens and ducks. As he walked further in, Chen Yu found a small door.
Inside was a pigsty, which also had a restroom. Walking in, he noticed a large pit beneath the toilet, and the stench made him cover his nose. As he moved further inside, Chen Yu seemed to discover something.
“Ugh…”
“Oh my God, it’s a body-one, two, three, four, five, six, seven.”
All these bodies were female, and their chests appeared to have been sliced open, leaving behind large gaping holes stained red with blood, their eyes wide open as if they were about to burst.
At that moment, Chen Yu finally understood that the ghost baby was the real evil ghost. It wasn’t that these people had disappeared; they had truly died, and so tragically. The ghost baby was looking for its mother, it was hungry. When I encountered the ghost baby earlier, it called me dad, which clearly meant I was its next target. I couldn’t continue like this; I had to escape. If I encountered this evil ghost now, I would only die.
Chen Yu grabbed the flashlight and turned to flee but noticed the schoolbag in the corner. However, he couldn’t see the ghost baby. An invisible fear caused Chen Yu’s legs to tremble uncontrollably.
Chen Yu ran out like a madman, but every time he ran towards the front door, he still saw the backyard of the canteen.
At that moment, a voice echoed throughout the canteen, “Daddy, Daddy, don’t you want me anymore?”
Damn, who is your daddy? I’m still an innocent virgin! Despite Chen Yu continuously encouraging himself, the fear did not dissipate. What should I do? Am I just going to die here? Who will come to save me?
Just as Chen Yu was feeling hopeless, the lights turned on again. “Schoolbag? Ghost baby.”
That’s right; the ghost baby appeared before Chen Yu again. This time, he didn’t run because his legs had gone weak from fear.
The ghost baby didn’t immediately make a move to kill him; it stared intently at Chen Yu, “Daddy, are you my daddy?”
Chen Yu was terrified, “Huh? I’m not your dad. The one who abandoned you is not me. Can you stop haunting me?”
The ghost baby’s voice echoed in the canteen, “Mommy gave birth to me in the bathroom. She put me in the schoolbag and then left. I’ve been waiting for her here, waiting for her.”
Looking at the ghost baby’s terrifying face, Chen Yu didn’t dare to defy it, but he still summoned his courage.
He spoke to the ghost baby, “Your mother won’t come back. Listen to me, go reincarnate, okay? Don’t harm these innocent people anymore.”
The ghost baby seemed enraged by Chen Yu’s words, “What? She won’t come back? You adults are all the same; after having children, you don’t take responsibility. My dad didn’t take responsibility for my mom, and my mom didn’t take responsibility for me. You all deserve to die!”
The ghost baby was furious. Its small body, combined with horrific flesh, had crawled out of the schoolbag. Its lower body was completely wrapped in blood, hovering in the air. Blood dripped onto the ground drop by drop as it viciously flew towards Chen Yu.
Chen Yu sensed that something was wrong and quickly dodged out of the way. This time, he didn’t run toward the main entrance-he knew there was no way he’d make it out that way. Instead, he dashed toward the backyard. During his previous attempts to escape, he had noticed that jumping from the back of the canteen wasn’t very high-just around two meters. He had no choice but to pin all his hopes on this risky move. Behind him, the ghost baby was in relentless pursuit.
Reaching the backyard, Chen Yu didn’t hesitate for a second before leaping down. However, his frail body, which he had long been aware of, finally betrayed him at the worst moment. The two-meter drop was enough to twist his ankle. Limping in pain, he hobbled toward the school’s main gate.
Just as escape seemed within reach, the ghost baby closed the distance rapidly. In his desperation, Chen Yu’s left leg accidentally tangled with his right, causing him to trip and crash to the ground. The impact was so great that he immediately blacked out.
