Love in the Fast Lane - Chapter 38 - Your Man Has Cheated
Tang Ning had always been a gentleman. In the half-year they’d known each other, Mo Zihan had never seen him do anything inappropriate. But seeing him dressed in oversized clothes and wearing glasses made her feel suspicious.
Anyway, Mo Zihan had quite a bit of his money in her hands, so she decided to follow him. Even if he caught her, she didn’t have to worry about being silenced… okay, maybe she was overthinking things.
Mo Zihan had been to the residential community where Tang Ning lived before, though she had never been to his place. She knew the buildings there; they looked old from the outside, and the rent wasn’t high. In this city, where every inch of land was expensive, it was rare to find such cheap housing. By just looking at the balconies, she could imagine the inside of these apartments. To save Tang Ning’s face, she had never mentioned wanting to visit. Whether it was because he never thought to invite her or simply forgot, he had never done so.
Stooping behind a utility pole, Mo Zihan trailed Tang Ning to a small Cafe. She watched as he stood at the entrance, scratching his head for a long while before finally entering, as if making a big decision. Puzzled, she couldn’t help but wonder.
Tang Ning was never into such places. What was going on today? Could it be that what he said was true?
Even though it was just speculation, Mo Zihan couldn’t help feeling a wave of irritation, as if someone had taken away her favorite toy. After hesitating for a moment, she gritted her teeth and followed him in.
The Cafe was relatively quiet, with soft music playing from the walls, seemingly quite a famous tune that Mo Zihan felt she had heard before. Looking around, she saw Tang Ning sitting with his back to the door.
Huh? This was unusual. Tang Ning, cunning as a fox, always chose a seat facing the entrance when dining out. Today, not only did he sit with his back to the door, but something certainly seemed off.
Mo Zihan was confident that the Tang Ning she saw today was not the same Tang Ning she knew. Either he was possessed, or he had lost his mind. When had Tang Ning ever gone to a Cafe? When had he ever sat with his back to the door?
Moreover, he was alone yet skillfully stirring his coffee while frequently glancing towards the entrance. Such restlessness was unlike him.
Mo Zihan thought to herself, this unexpected behavior clearly indicated that Tang Ning was waiting for someone. Given his personality, even if he had to wait for hours, he wouldn’t be this uneasy. This made Mo Zihan even more certain that he was out on a date!
“Great, I’ve been exhausting myself helping you find a job and collecting your salary without complaint, and you’re out here not doing anything at home but going on dates!” Mo Zihan felt an urge to rush over and grab him by the collar, but she held back. She wanted to see what kind of person he was meeting.
Her feelings were akin to a woman who, after working hard outside, comes home to find her man out doing whatever he wants. She couldn’t help but feel a surge of anger. At this moment, Mo Zihan herself couldn’t even figure out what she was feeling. She wanted to be angry but kept giving herself reasons to stay calm. She didn’t want to get angry, yet she felt aggrieved.
Before long, the door was pushed open from the outside. Mo Zihan, who had been watching Tang Ning from the sofa with one eye, shivered-it was too cold; she shouldn’t have sat there. However, if she moved inside, Tang Ning would definitely notice her, and that wouldn’t be good. Would she have to use the lame excuse of “Oh, you’re here too” to explain herself?
The key to following someone was not to be discovered; otherwise, it wouldn’t be called following!
The person who entered was a tall, sunny-looking girl, dressed lightly as if she wasn’t afraid of the cold winds outside. If Mo Zihan dressed like that, she wouldn’t step away from the heater!
Huh, could this girl be here to meet Tang Ning?
Mo Zihan’s eyes widened as she watched the girl walk over to Tang Ning’s table. It was then that she noticed both of them were holding a magazine.
Such a clumsy way to meet up? It looked like an old-fashioned secret meeting!
However, this made Mo Zihan realize one fact: Tang Ning and this girl didn’t know each other.
Well, if they didn’t know each other, they must be meeting for the first time. But what were they meeting about? If it was a date, this didn’t seem quite right either. Could there be some hidden story behind this?
She was just very curious about this hidden story, that’s all. She needed to get to the bottom of it!
With this thought, Mo Zihan felt a sense of enlightenment. Without any hesitation, she relaxed into the sofa and ordered a coffee. Even though she couldn’t hear their hushed conversation, she was confident. With her judgment, she only needed to deduce from the beginning and the end to figure out what was going on!
After a short while, the sunny girl got up and left. It seemed like their conversation had gone quite well. But if they had been getting along nicely, then why did she leave so soon?
Mo Zihan felt the urge to call Qi Xiaomeng. Maybe she could help analyze this situation.
But on second thought, she decided against it; Qi Xiaomeng had definitely had a good night’s sleep and was probably off enjoying herself somewhere. Better not to disturb her. Argh, she was just too kind-hearted.
Looking back at Tang Ning, Mo Zihan noticed that he actually shook hands with the sunny girl as they parted… Hmm? A handshake? That was Tang Ning’s signature gesture of expressing gratitude. What was he thanking her for? Did she help him with something?
After the sunny girl left the Cafe, Mo Zihan thought Tang Ning might leave soon as well. But to her surprise, he sat back down and picked up the magazine he had placed on the table.
Hmm? Another meeting planned?
What could be so urgent?
Before long, another girl, around twenty years old and likely a university student, came in. She looked quite pure and innocent, waving cheerfully at Tang Ning while holding a colorful, glossy magazine.
Another girl summoned by Tang Ning?
Mo Zihan couldn’t help but feel a bit annoyed. What was Tang Ning up to, meeting one girl after another?
Granted, his taste wasn’t bad. Both girls were quite presentable and weren’t dressed outrageously. It seemed they were carefully selected. But for what purpose?
Still pondering, Mo Zihan noticed that Tang Ning’s conversation had ended. Just as Tang Ning stood up and stretched, Mo Zihan received a call from Qi Xiaomeng-before entering, she had set her phone to vibrate mode; otherwise, her unique ringtone would have immediately alerted Tang Ning to her presence.
“Quick, get online! Tang Ning is renting a girlfriend!” Qi Xiaomeng exclaimed as if she had discovered some treasure, her loud voice accompanied by the rapid clattering of keyboard keys.
“What are you doing over there? Why is it so noisy?” Renting a girlfriend? Now that was intriguing. Why would Tang Ning do something like that? Mo Zihan felt a surge of curiosity but didn’t want to lose her composure in front of Qi Xiaomeng.
The sound of typing diminished, followed by the noise of drinking water, before Qi Xiaomeng’s mischievous laughter came through the line: “Girl, what’s up with you? Can’t you see what’s going on? Your man is cheating, surprising, isn’t it?”
Cheating, my foot! I’d smack you right now if I could!
Mo Zihan absent-mindedly drew a circle on the table, writing “Qi Xiaomeng” inside it in bold letters. What it meant would depend on the outcome!
“Stop talking nonsense. If there’s nothing else, I’m hanging up. I’m eating,” Mo Zihan snapped, already irritated. Being taunted by Qi Xiaomeng only made it worse, and even the calmest person would find this hard to bear.
Being fully aware of her best friend’s temperament, Qi Xiaomeng could imagine exactly how furious Mo Zihan was right now, which only made her more gleeful: “Don’t hang up. If your man is cheating, it’s my duty as your best friend to help you teach him a lesson. Watch, I’ll go find him right away!”
Listening to the dial tone, Mo Zihan couldn’t help but put her hand to her forehead. This was a disaster; Qi Xiaomeng would definitely stir up trouble. Now, should she get out of here before things blew up?
