Lord of the Demon Sect - Chapter 7 - Beautiful Lady, Are You Playing Me?
At that moment, a large circular image resembling a roulette wheel popped up in his mind. In the center was a pointer, and around the edge of the circle was a ring with three hundred sixty illustrations, all depicting various books, seemingly intended as rewards for his cultivation.
Many of the titles of these cultivation books sounded very powerful, such as the “Heart of Dao Demon Cultivation Method,” “Heavenly Demon Disintegration Technique,” and “Eternal Life Technique.”
“Wow, they even created a lottery! From the looks of it, these cultivation methods all seem impressive! No matter which one I land on, it’s got to be better than the pathetic ‘Ghostly Slaughter Technique’ I’m practicing right now.” Jiang Chen instantly perked up, his eyes scanning the roulette images again before deciding to start spinning the wheel.
As he focused his thoughts, the pointer began to spin. It passed “Heart of Dao Demon Cultivation Method,” it passed “Heavenly Demon Disintegration Technique,” it passed “Eternal Life Technique,” and continued moving forward. However, the pointer gradually slowed down, ultimately landing on a book titled “Sword Technique of Universe.”
“Sword Technique of Universe? That feels more like a martial skills book. This isn’t what I imagined at all.”
At that moment, Jiang Chen noticed a small blue-covered booklet suddenly appear in his hand, with the words “Sword Formation of Universe” embossed in gold letters on the front.
Although a martial skills book wasn’t exactly what he wanted, considering it was a supreme cultivation method, it had to be an extremely powerful technique. Perhaps with just one move, he could take down an enemy.
Nervously, Jiang Chen, his hands trembling slightly, opened “Sword Technique of Universe” and began to read it carefully. His face lit up with delight as he skimmed the first page’s introduction, but after reading the full introduction, he couldn’t help but let out a deep sigh, throwing the book heavily onto the bed, cursing, “Isn’t this just a scam?”
He felt utterly hopeless. It wasn’t that “Sword Technique of Universe” was bad; in fact, it was so good that he wouldn’t be able to use it at all, and in the foreseeable future, he wouldn’t stand a chance of using this sword technique in combat against an enemy.
The Sword Technique of Universe was, to be precise, a sword formation, and it was one that integrated both offense and defense. It comprised a grand sword formation of the universe made up of the great five elements1: metal, wood, water, fire, and earth, as well as a minor three wonders sword formation composed of wind, ice, and thunder. One was grand and the other minor; one was orthodox and the other strange, subtly incorporating principles of Bagua2, Yin-Yang3, and life and death. Each elemental system required twelve flying swords. For all eight systems, a total of ninety-six flying swords were needed to form the grand sword formation of the universe. According to the book, if one could refine all one hundred and eight flying swords as required, they would not only be invincible among cultivators of the same level but could even potentially slay those of a higher tier.
However, with such a powerful sword technique, why did Jiang Chen feel utterly hopeless? It was because the requirements of the Sword Technique of Universe were exceedingly high.
First, it required a cultivator at the foundation establishment stage to practice and use it. At present, he was only at the first layer of qi refinement, and he could only look on helplessly.
Second, it had stringent requirements for the weapons used, which had to be swords… Well, would a sword technique even be effective without swords? However, the materials required for the swords in the sword formation were particularly exacting. The book listed several kinds of materials that could be used to refine flying swords, and each of them was a supreme-grade resource in today’s world. Not only could the Ghostly Slaughter Sect not afford these materials, but even the entire Demon Sect might lack them. Many of the materials were likely extinct in this world.
Jiang Chen had considered substituting with ordinary materials, but according to the book, one could not lower the tier of materials. Otherwise, even if he succeeded in creating flying swords, the effectiveness of the grand sword formation would likely fall short of ordinary sword techniques. This meant that even if he managed to gather one elemental set’s materials and refine twelve flying swords, the effectiveness of that single elemental sword formation would definitely be far superior to randomly assembling ninety-six flying swords from eight different element systems.
Forget it, he was just having rotten luck, ended up with this useless-looking “Sword Technique of Universe.” Jiang Chen felt extremely distressed. He tossed the booklet into his storage bag and sat down on the bed.
At that moment, he caught a whiff of a strange, foul odor emanating from his body. Quickly taking off his clothes, he was shocked to discover a layer of black impurities clinging to his skin.
He hurriedly retrieved a bathing tub and began to wash himself. After scrubbing for over half an hour, he finally became clean. He felt refreshed and invigorated, as if he were floating.
He pulled out his sect uniform from the storage bag, put it on, and then collapsed onto the bed.
It was now evening. So many things had happened today-it could be said that these events were unprecedented in his life thus far.
Especially thinking about that damned Holy Lord mission made Jiang Chen feel a bit anxious. Moreover, after sitting on the meditation cushion for so long, his back felt a bit sore and numb. However, he calmed himself after just a moment of impatience.
He was a resolute person who understood that the path to becoming a Holy Lord is a long and arduous journey; impatience wouldn’t help him achieve his goals. Eager to rush would only lead to failure.
Still, Jiang Chen pondered for a moment and felt that he shouldn’t just bury his head in cultivation. He should take a look around the sect and seek out other opportunities. The path of cultivation was inherently against the heavens, and opportunities and luck played crucial roles. Additionally, continuously engaging in battles and adventures would help sharpen his resolve and awaken his potential, ultimately leading him to greatness.
In this continent, most sects, including the Ghostly Slaughter Sect, shared this belief. Otherwise, they wouldn’t use contribution points and various rewards to encourage their disciples to undertake perilous tasks to hone their will and uncover their potential. After all, wouldn’t it be more prudent if everyone just stayed within the sect and focused on secluded cultivation?
In reality, all sects understood that even if someone had an exceptional spiritual root, abundant supply of cultivation pills, or outstanding cultivation methods with esteemed masters guiding them, they could hardly break through their bottlenecks without experiencing life-and-death challenges. Every righteous-path cultivator who had broken through to the golden core stage, as well as every ancestor of the Demon Sect, had undergone countless trials before reaching such heights.
Moreover, not utilizing his skill for a thirty percent increase in alchemy success rate seemed rather unwise. If he could refine potions to assist in his cultivation, it would significantly accelerate his progress, wouldn’t it?
With this in mind, Jiang Chen decided he would ask Lin Yushang tomorrow morning if she could provide him with an opportunity to try his hand at alchemy.
After lying down in bed, he felt his eyelids grow heavy, and it wasn’t long before he fell into a deep sleep.
