Lord of the Demon Sect - Chapter 12 - I'll Take You Down!
Jiang Chen was taken aback, filled with both hatred and anger. He never expected that Du Wei could be so malicious as to use him to feed a Jiangshi.
He immediately drew his sword, trembling as he pointed it at Du Wei.
Du Wei scoffed when he saw Jiang Chen’s sword stance. “It’s obvious you’ve never trained in swordsmanship. If you could use the ghostly slaughter sword technique, I might actually have to take you seriously. Unfortunately, you’re just a novice…”
With that, he waved his hand, and a ghostly claw shot out from his sleeve, snatching the sword from Jiang Chen’s grasp.
Jiang Chen’s face instantly filled with fear, and he scrambled backward as fast as he could.
Du Wei let out a cold snort and leaped forward in pursuit.
It seemed that Jiang Chen was truly panicked; he stumbled and staggered as he ran. After just a few steps, he fell down on the bend of the mountain path.
Du Wei laughed heartily, striding forward with disdain. “A junior brother who has just broken through to the first layer of qi refinement thinks he can escape from me, a senior brother at the third layer? What a foolish dream…”
At this point, he took Jiang Chen’s long sword from the ghostly claw and stepped closer, preparing to stab the terrified Jiang Chen as he struggled to get back on his feet.
Though there were only the two of them here, fellow disciples sometimes appeared, and if anyone saw him kill his junior brother, it would cause a huge mess.
However, just as Du Wei made his move, he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his foot. Instinctively, he looked down to see a nail, the same color as the ground, piercing through the sole of his foot, its tip protruding through the top.
“Damn it! I fell for this kid’s trick! He set up Jiangshi nails here…” Du Wei felt both furious and annoyed. He cursed himself for being careless; if he had used his spiritual sense to check the ground carefully, he would have noticed the Jiangshi nails.
What he didn’t expect was that just as he instinctively looked at his foot, Jiang Chen suddenly transformed as if he had turned into a different person, launching a counterattack!
The distance between them was already quite short, and with Jiang Chen pouncing forward, he quickly grabbed Du Wei tightly.
Du Wei was about to channel his spiritual power to push Jiang Chen away when he suddenly felt a sharp object stab into his left side, causing unbearable pain. All his strength instantly drained away.
In a split second, Jiang Chen swiftly snatched his own sword from Du Wei’s hand. Taking advantage of Du Wei’s momentary weakness, he slashed fiercely across Du Wei’s throat…
“Slash!”
A stream of blood immediately gushed from Du Wei’s throat, spraying all over Jiang Chen.
Jiang Chen, completely ignoring the blood dripping from his wounds, raised the long sword and forcefully struck Du Wei’s body several times, almost reducing his upper body to pieces. Finally, he gasped for breath and sat down nearby.
That was close! Fortunately, he reacted in time and lured Du Wei to the spot where the Jiangshi nails were buried. Du Wei was careless and didn’t notice, allowing Jiang Chen to seize the opportunity to stab him with a Jiangshi nail in the back… Otherwise, he would have surely been killed. Thinking back on what had just transpired, Jiang Chen was still shaken.
This was his first true encounter with the brutal reality of the cultivation world, where the weak are devoured by the strong. If his cultivation level had been similar to Du Wei’s, he might not have dared to kill him. He also realized that he had trusted too easily, honestly telling Du Wei he was alone. If he had mentioned that fellow disciples were nearby, Du Wei likely wouldn’t have dared to attack.
Du Wei’s actions had greatly impacted Jiang Chen, maturing his mindset rapidly. From now on, he wouldn’t easily trust others. He understood that if he wanted to achieve the goal of becoming that so-called Holy Lord, he had to quickly elevate his cultivation level. Otherwise, not only would he be unable to complete the tasks from the Holy Lord System, but he might also lose his life.
Jiang Chen then began to assess his spoils. He retrieved three iron claws connected by black ropes from Du Wei’s sleeve. Based on what he learned from the jade slip, these were called “netherworld ghost claws,” a common spiritual artifact used by disciples of the Ghostly Slaughter Sect. However, given their number and the fluctuations of spiritual power, they seemed significantly inferior to what Zhang Fei used, classifying them as low-grade artifacts.
Next, he grabbed Du Wei’s storage bag. With his master dead, he easily erased the spiritual sense on the bag and opened it, extending his spiritual sense inside to see what was there.
The contents of the storage bag were sparse. It contained three spell jade slips, apparently spells that Du Wei had obtained from the sect. However, they bore the sect’s restrictions, making it impossible for him to access them. Thus, they were of no use to him.
Jiang Chen set the three spell jade slips aside and discovered a green long sword inside the bag, which was of much better quality than the black long sword issued by his sect. The black long sword could barely be considered a low-grade artifact, while this green sword was at least a low-grade artifact.
Besides that, the storage bag held a bottle of qi nourishing pills and twenty low-grade spirit stones.
This was all there was? It seemed Du Wei wasn’t doing much better than he was. However, by killing Du Wei, he managed to obtain two low-grade artifacts.
Moreover, his qi nourishing pills were almost finished. Du Wei’s bottle would be a perfect supplement.
After placing all of Du Wei’s belongings into his own storage bag, Jiang Chen then turned his attention to the Jiangshi raising bag beside him.
Now seemed to be the time for him to perform a blood sacrifice on the Jiangshi, turning it into his Jiangshi servant.
He recalled clearly what Du Wei had said: during the blood sacrifice, using the recently deceased body of a cultivator as bait for the Jiangshi would establish a connection, allowing the servant and himself to communicate and provide feedback.
After clearing away the traces of battle, he picked up the Jiangshi raising bag in one hand and grabbed Du Wei’s corpse with the other. He made his way to a secluded cave, where he began preparing for the blood sacrifice.
He took out the jade slip for the Jiangshi control technique and thoroughly memorized the process for blood sacrificing a servant multiple times to avoid any mistakes. This was not a trivial matter; a mistake in the blood sacrifice could lead to demonic deviation and death.
Once everything was ready and his spirit, qi, and energy were back to their peak state, Jiang Chen began the blood sacrifice. He sent his spiritual sense into the Jiangshi raising bag, firmly locking onto that swift and clever female Jiangshi.
