Life Exchange Game - Chapter 3 - System Takeover
After drawing another picture based on his sister, Xia Yu put down his pencil, lay on the bed, and fell asleep.
The next morning, Xia Yu woke up from his dream and checked the time. It was only five in the morning; he usually woke up at seven-thirty. This time, he woke up early because he no longer felt sleepy. The sleep his body got while under the system’s takeover counted towards his required rest.
This was convenient. From now on, he could let the system take over his body for eight hours to do homework and sleep, saving a lot of time.
After playing on his phone for a while, he heard the door open and a low cough. His father, Xia Dongyang, had returned.
Xia Dongyang had been quite the playboy in his youth and never held a proper job. Now, he worked as a waiter at a night bar. He also enjoyed drinking, and he would always come back after having a few drinks. Fortunately, the bar owner was his classmate, so he drank at cost price; otherwise, his meager salary wouldn’t even cover his drinking expenses.
Bang-
A loud noise came from outside, as if someone had fallen. Xia Yu didn’t bother to check. Xia Dongyang, despite being a university graduate, was living in poverty. He couldn’t be a good person. When Xia Yu was younger, Xia Dongyang often disciplined him harshly.
“Youxue! Youxue!” Xia Dongyang called out Xia Yu’s younger sister’s name.
Five years ago, he used to call Xia Yu’s name like this. After Xia Yu beat him up once, he started calling for Youxue instead.
“Where’s that useless girl? Come out and help your father!” His voice was accompanied by the sound of something hitting the floor.
After ten seconds, Xia Yu heard the door open and his sister Youxue’s voice.
“Get over here! Your father hasn’t slept yet, and you’re already asleep. How nice for you!”
Youxue seemed frightened and let out a low cry.
Getting out of bed, Xia Yu opened his door. Xia Dongyang’s voice stopped abruptly. He looked at Xia Yu and said in a lower tone, “It’s only right for a daughter to help her father.”
Ignoring him, Xia Yu looked at his sister. “Youxue, my room is a mess. Come and tidy it up.”
“Help me up first!” Xia Dongyang demanded.
Xia Yu punched the wall, and he immediately fell silent.
Carefully walking past Xia Dongyang, Youxue entered Xia Yu’s room.
Closing the door, Xia Yu looked at his sister, who was wearing her pajamas and seemed scared.
He reached out and touched her face.
Youxue had a beautiful face and a gentle personality. She was in her first year of middle school. Normally, a girl like her would be living like a little princess in another family.
“Brother,” Youxue said in a pitiful voice.
“Go sleep on the bed,” Xia Yu said.
Xia Dongyang wouldn’t fall asleep immediately after getting drunk; he would cause trouble for at least an hour. If Youxue left the room, she would definitely be caught by him.
However, Xia Dongyang didn’t get drunk every day. He was probably upset by a customer at the bar again.
He had no skills but a strong sense of pride.
Smiling at Xia Yu, Youxue climbed into the bed and snuggled under the covers.
“Brother, aren’t you going to sleep?” she asked, looking at Xia Yu sitting at the desk.
“I went to bed early last night, so I’m not sleepy,” Xia Yu replied. “Go to sleep.”
“Okay,” Youxue said, closing her eyes.
Xia Yu drew for a while and let his mind wander about the Body Exchange Game. Then he turned to look at his sister’s sleeping face.
Compared to his previous life in a well-off and harmonious family, this life was quite unfortunate. But there was a bit of luck in the misfortune-this obedient and adorable sister.
In his previous life, Xia Yu, who wasn’t good at socializing, had never met a girl more likable than Youxue.
As an only child in his previous life, he had never had a blood-related sister like this.
When he first transmigrated, he had set some small goals, like becoming a millionaire, a great writer, or a kept man, and then living a happy life with his sister.
Unfortunately, he had no business experience, no photographic memory, and his looks were just average.
He might do a bit better than in his previous life, but not by much. Without family support, he would have to work much harder.
Until yesterday, he had thought this way. But now he had the Body Exchange Game.
Last night, his progress in drawing had surprised An Siyao. According to her, his progress in one night was equivalent to a week of her hard practice.
A week for her wasn’t just eight hours a day.
If this continued, becoming a painter whose works sold for millions didn’t seem impossible.
And this was just drawing bonus Lv1. Since there was a level one, there must be a level two.
A bright future was within reach.
But that was the future. For now, he was still a poor guy working part-time at a convenience store, saving up for a laptop.
Sighing, Xia Yu picked up his phone and browsed some forums.
Two hours later, Youxue got up from Xia Yu’s bed. She neatly folded the blanket and made the bed before leaving the room to prepare breakfast.
At seven-thirty, Xia Yu washed up and had breakfast with Youxue before heading out to catch the subway.
Their schools were in different directions. Xia Yu’s was to the east, and Youxue’s was to the west. The subway to the east arrived first, and he waved to Youxue before getting on.
At eight, it was the peak time for commuters, and the subway was crowded.
Five minutes later, he got off the subway. The school was still a distance away, requiring a walk.
A bicycle would be nice. No need to squeeze into the crowded subway or walk under the sun.
But a laptop was more important than a bicycle.
Having the money for both would be even better.
At eight-twenty, Xia Yu arrived at the school gate.
In this unified world, districts corresponded to countries. Xia Yu was in the first district.
There was competition between districts, but it wasn’t intense, so the policies were relatively relaxed.
In terms of education, classes started at eight-forty in the morning and ended at two-forty in the afternoon. The remaining time could be used for club activities or going home.
The curriculum was also simpler.
Of course, this was just public school. Private schools with high tuition fees were even more demanding than schools in his previous life.
Selecting elites and providing them with enhanced education while teaching the rest casually. There were only so many elite positions needed. A clerk who read Das Kapital and a clerk who read Harry Potter were no different. Universal elitism was unnecessary.
Entering the classroom, Xia Yu spent the day in a daze. After packing up, he headed to his part-time job at the convenience store.
Even though he had the Body Exchange Game, he still needed money now. He couldn’t afford to lose his job.
If the pianist plan fell through, finding another easy job like this wouldn’t be easy.
After his shift ended at five-thirty, he returned to his room and activated the Body Exchange Game.
When the darkness faded, he found himself holding a flower in his left hand and a pair of scissors in his right. A tall vase and a bunch of flower branches were beside him.
Was he arranging flowers?
“Miss?” The maid next to him called out when she saw him dazing off.
“Yes,” Xia Yu responded coldly, looking at the flower in his hand.
I have no idea how to arrange flowers!
