I'm Done with the Elite Marriage - Chapter 64
It wasn’t that Rong Huiying was a narrow-minded woman, but she genuinely couldn’t bring herself to like the people from the Fu Family, especially Yu Wanrong.
Yu Wanrong’s timid and submissive demeanor was something Rong Huiying disliked. What disappointed her the most was Yu Wanrong’s lack of action as a Mother-in-law.
Yu Wanrong could clearly sense the sarcasm in Rong Huiying’s tone, but she didn’t take it to heart. Instead, she brought in the prepared gifts.
“We heard about Youling’s injury, so we came to check on her,” Yu Wanrong said.
Rong Huiying pushed away the gifts Yu Wanrong offered, saying, “No need for such courtesy. You can take them back. Our Lingling is fine, no need for your concern.”
Zhou Zhishan, standing nearby, gently pulled Rong Huiying aside, signaling her to stop saying such things. The past was the past, and now the Fu Family was visiting out of genuine concern, especially since Old Master Fu had come personally.
Seeing the situation wasn’t going well, Fu Ruxuan stepped forward and took Zhou Youling’s hand. “Elder sister, I’ve come to see you.”
Zhou Youling gave Fu Ruxuan a faint smile and prepared to get up upon seeing Old Master Fu.
Old Master Fu waved his hand, “Stay lying down, stay lying down. How are you? Nothing serious, right?”
Zhou Youling shook her head, “No major issues, grandfather, don’t worry.”
“That’s good to hear. I saw what happened at your store online, it really scared me!” It was clear that Old Master Fu was genuinely concerned.
Rong Huiying couldn’t hold back and said to Old Master Fu, “Old Master, why do you bother? Our Zhou Family and your Fu Family have no ties anymore. Honestly, you don’t need to do this.”
Old Master Fu’s expression darkened.
Rong Huiying opened the hospital room door, showing no courtesy, “Now that you’ve seen her, please leave.”
Being treated this way was a first for Old Master Fu in his life.
Zhou Zhishan quietly scolded Rong Huiying, “What are you doing?”
“I’m doing what I should,” Rong Huiying said loudly. “When we needed their concern, they didn’t care. Now that we don’t need it, they all jump out. What is this?”
Zhou Zhishan sighed lightly, giving Rong Huiying a glance, indicating she should say less.
Rong Huiying was fearless, speaking indirectly to Zhou Zhishan, “I have a mirror in my heart, very clear. I hope you have self-awareness too and know what you should be doing now!”
Old Master Fu and Yu Wanrong could hear her clearly.
Only Fu Ruxuan, oblivious, held Zhou Youling’s hand, repeatedly saying, “Elder sister, I showed the video to grandfather right away, it really shocked all of us. It was so dangerous, but it’s good you’re okay!”
“Please leave!”
Rong Huiying shouted, startling Fu Ruxuan.
Old Master Fu could only sigh helplessly, preparing to leave with Yu Wanrong, feeling defeated.
“Wait!” Rong Huiying approached Yu Wanrong.
Yu Wanrong was startled by Rong Huiying, instinctively stepping back.
“Bah!” Rong Huiying scoffed at Yu Wanrong. “Yu Wanrong, with your cowardly demeanor, I really can’t be bothered to waste words on you. I’m warning you, stay away from my daughter and me!”
Yu Wanrong frowned, disapproving of Rong Huiying’s attitude, yet helpless. “I’m just here to visit Youling today.”
Rong Huiying retorted, “No need! Go back wherever you came from! Leave!”
Yu Wanrong’s face flushed with anger, but there was nothing she could do against Rong Huiying. She could only grit her teeth and leave.
Finally, Fu Ruxuan pouted at Zhou Youling before leaving as well.
Once they were gone, the room quickly fell into silence.
Ji Yangwen stood nearby, seemingly invisible throughout the whole ordeal.
Only then did Rong Huiying notice Ji Yangwen and said, “Sorry you had to witness that.”
Ji Yangwen shook his head. “I understand, aunt.”
Rong Huiying found a release for her frustration and began to vent, “I can’t get over it. My precious daughter married into the Fu Family, and how do they treat her?”
“Mom,” Zhou Youling said calmly, “Please stop. It’s too noisy.”
Rong Huiying had to reluctantly quiet down.
Indeed, there was no point in saying more.
Ji Yangwen tactfully changed the subject, “Knowing Youling’s situation, I’ve arranged for a top doctor to examine her. I’m sure it won’t be a big issue.”
Rong Huiying replied, “That’s too kind of you.”
“It’s nothing, really.”
After a brief exchange, Ji Yangwen stood up to leave, as it was getting late.
Rong Huiying warmly saw him off, clearly satisfied with Ji Yangwen.
During this time, Ji Yangwen had come to understand the situation between the Zhou Family and the Fu Family quite well. Thus, he empathized with Rong Huiying’s feelings. He also realized that appearing in Zhou Youling’s life at this moment was perhaps not the best timing.
Outside, the night had fallen, with stars scattered across the sky-a rare and beautiful sight.
Soon, it would be the Lantern Festival.
Ji Yangwen took the elevator down to the first floor, where he coincidentally encountered Fu Xunzhou waiting for the elevator. To Ji Yangwen’s surprise, Fu Xunzhou, usually dressed maturely and professionally, was wearing something quite different today, almost making him unrecognizable.
“What a coincidence,” Ji Yangwen greeted Fu Xunzhou first.
Fu Xunzhou, not keen on speaking with Ji Yangwen, nonetheless nodded politely. He guessed one of the reasons Ji Yangwen might be here, and instinctively frowned.
Ji Yangwen stepped out of the elevator, blocking Fu Xunzhou’s path.
Fu Xunzhou couldn’t enter the elevator and took a step back, looking up at Ji Yangwen.
“Is this amusing to you?” Ji Yangwen asked.
Fu Xunzhou looked at Ji Yangwen coldly. “What are you trying to say?”
Ji Yangwen didn’t beat around the bush. “You know she’s not welcoming you, nor is her family. Why put yourself through this?”
“That’s my business.”
Ji Yangwen crossed his arms, watching Fu Xunzhou with a look of amusement. “I don’t know why, but seeing you so frustrated makes me feel quite satisfied.”
Fu Xunzhou sneered, “Are you crazy? Straight ahead, turn left to the asylum. Goodbye.”
Ji Yangwen said, “You know what I’m talking about.”
Fu Xunzhou remained silent.
Ji Yangwen: “Do you know what a woman has become because of you? Do you know Xue Yining?”
Fu Xunzhou remained silent.
Ji Yangwen: “This woman has liked you since her student days and continues to do so. Now, because of you, she’s suffering from severe depression and severe anxiety disorder, needing to take a large amount of medication daily. Don’t you feel any guilt?”
In truth, Fu Xunzhou was aware of everything Ji Yangwen mentioned.
Fu Xunzhou had known since college that Xue Yining had depression and anxiety disorder, a secret known to only a few. Of course, he also knew that Xue Yining liked him. However, he had clearly rejected her during their student days, thinking she would understand, as such matters cannot be forced.
Perhaps knowing about Xue Yining’s condition, Fu Xunzhou had always been more tolerant and patient with her than with others.
After graduating from college, as the years passed, Fu Xunzhou thought Xue Yining’s condition had improved. He had heard that she had been traveling with her backpack, achieving some success. He had interacted with her and found her no different from anyone else.
Unexpectedly, after the incident a few months ago, Xue Yining’s condition worsened.
A few months ago, Xue Yining caused a scene at Zhou Youling’s restaurant and was taken away by the police. Since then, she has been hospitalized for psychological treatment.
During this time, Fu Xunzhou visited Xue Yining in the hospital once, intending to “confront” her. But upon seeing her dazed and vacant expression, he realized his concerns were unnecessary.
Ji Yangwen said, “Don’t tell me you never knew Xue Yining liked you? She could die for you!”
Fu Xunzhou finally spoke: “What does that have to do with me?”
With a loud “bang,” Ji Yangwen punched Fu Xunzhou in the face.
Fu Xunzhou nearly fell.
Ji Yangwen grabbed Fu Xunzhou’s collar with both hands, angrily saying, “Can’t you even pretend to like her?”
Fu Xunzhou pushed Ji Yangwen away, replying coldly, “Sorry, I can’t.”
