- Chapter 1 - After the Apocalypse, I Was Reborn
Pain, so much pain!
An excruciating agony permeated every inch of Zhang Yi’s body.
This wasn’t just a sensation-it was a harsh reality unfolding on him.
At this moment, he was mercilessly trampled by friends and neighbors he had once trusted and helped, their fists, feet, and even clubs raining down on him like a storm.
In this resource-scarce apocalypse, they didn’t even consider the help Zhang Yi had once offered them-they turned on him!
In his final moments, he vaguely saw the woman he had idolized, Fang Yuqing, standing behind the crowd, putting on a pitiful act as she shouted, “I’m the one who made him open the door! You owe me a bigger share of the supplies!”
It was this woman who had tricked Zhang Yi into opening the door, leading to his demise.
Zhang Yi stared at her, his eyes filled with hatred and regret.
He could only blame himself for being too naive, too kind, for becoming someone else’s stepping stone in this apocalypse.
How he wished he could start over.
If given another chance, he would show no mercy to anyone-he would live only for himself!
Zhang Yi’s vision soon darkened, and he lost consciousness.
But in the very next moment, his eyes snapped open, and he sat up from the couch.
The hellish scene he had just experienced, the terrible pain, was still vivid in his mind.
Zhang Yi gasped for breath, his body quickly drenched in sweat.
“What’s going on? Wasn’t I killed by those beastly neighbors?”
After regaining his composure, Zhang Yi began to take in his surroundings.
This place wasn’t unfamiliar-it was his own home.
The comfortable temperature in the air, however, felt strangely out of place.
Because in December 2050 of the Western calendar, the Blue Planet was affected by a supernova explosion 500,000 light-years away, triggering a global Cambrian Explosion.
Global temperatures plummeted. In Tianhai, where Zhang Yi lived, daily temperatures dropped to -60 or -70 degrees Celsius. A month-long blizzard buried the entire city.
In the north of China, it was said to have reached a terrifying -100 degrees Celsius, burying the land entirely in ice and snow.
Countless species faced mass extinction, and over 95% of humanity perished in this catastrophe.
Zhang Yi stood up, grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge, and gulped down half of it.
Though the refrigerated water was cold, to him now, it tasted like the finest nectar.
During the apocalypse, the only way to get water was to venture outside, brave the extreme cold of -60 or -70 degrees, and dig snow to melt into water.
Such tasks often led to people freezing to death.
After finishing the water, Zhang Yi picked up his phone and glanced at the screen.
The date displayed was “November 12th.”
There was exactly one month left until the apocalypse.
“It seems I’ve been reborn.”
Zhang Yi took a deep breath and quickly understood what had happened.
That month-long experience couldn’t have been a dream-especially the excruciating pain of being torn apart felt all too real.
Zhang Yi looked up, feeling an overwhelming sense of relief at having survived.
At the same time, a sharp, determined glint flashed in his eyes.
He remembered clearly every single person who had betrayed and killed him.
In this life, he would live well and show no mercy to those people.
Moreover, while ensuring his own safety, he would make sure to exact brutal revenge on those beasts!
But for now, Zhang Yi’s first priority was figuring out how to survive the apocalypse that would arrive in a month.
Zhang Yi’s living conditions were decent.
His parents had passed away early, leaving him a 120-square-meter apartment in Tianhai.
He also had over 2 million yuan1 in savings, which would have been comfortable in normal times.
But with the apocalypse approaching, global resources would become scarce.
The money he had wouldn’t last long.
After all, surviving alone required an enormous amount of supplies.
With the advantage of preparation, Zhang Yi didn’t just want to survive-he wanted to maintain a certain quality of life.
Food, entertainment-it all had to be considered. Otherwise, his mental health would inevitably collapse over time.
And weapons were a must. Only with them could he protect himself and carry out his revenge on his neighbors.
Just then, a faint white light suddenly appeared before Zhang Yi’s eyes.
Thinking his right eye was playing tricks on him, he rubbed it.
But suddenly, a strange thought emerged in his mind.
It was as if this white light was a part of him, and information about it flooded his consciousness.
With a thought, Zhang Yi’s mind instantly entered the white light.
Inside, he found himself in an enormous, blank, white space.
The area was vast, stretching endlessly, filled with nothing but emptiness.
“Is this… an Alternate Space?”
“It seems that after being reborn, I’ve gained some special abilities.”
Zhang Yi’s heart leaped with joy.
It appeared that the gamma rays had mutated his body, granting him extraordinary powers.
With this enormous space, storing supplies for the apocalypse became infinitely easier.
However, Zhang Yi wanted to know just how much the space could hold and whether there were any restrictions on what could be stored.
His consciousness quickly returned to his room, and he began experimenting by moving household items into the space.
He started with small objects like teacups and basins, which were easily stored.
Then, Zhang Yi tried larger appliances.
The TV, refrigerator, washing machine, computer, air conditioner, and vacuum cleaner-all were effortlessly absorbed into the white space.
Moreover, with just a thought, Zhang Yi could retrieve any item from the space.
However, objects that were subject to strong external forces or not independent entities were difficult to store.
For example, when he tried to pull up a floorboard, there was no response.
“The Alternate Space seems to have many rules I’ll need to figure out over time.”
“But even just this massive storage space alone allows me to hoard an incredible amount of resources!”
He licked his lips, a bold plan forming in his mind.
Zhang Yi’s job was as a supervisor at the South China warehouse of Walmart.
As the world’s largest supermarket, Walmart had an endless variety of goods.
In China, it had three massive warehouses-in Central China, South China, and North China.
These warehouses were enormous, especially the South China warehouse.
Built in 2040, it was 1,500 meters long and 720 meters wide, covering over a million square meters! It was the largest warehouse in the world!
The president of Walmart Greater China had once called it the Eighth Wonder of the World!
Of course, the world only officially recognized seven wonders, and there were thousands of self-proclaimed “eighth wonders.”
But in terms of size and storage capacity, the South China warehouse was indeed unmatched in the global logistics industry.
Its stockpile of supplies could sustain several cities with millions of people for an entire week.
In other words, if Zhang Yi could empty out one of these warehouses and move its contents into his Alternate Space,
he wouldn’t just have enough for a lifetime-he’d have enough for ten lifetimes!
The best part was that Walmart’s quality control was extremely strict.
There were no low-quality, off-brand products in its warehouses.
Whether it was food, daily necessities, or luxury goods, everything was from reputable, well-known brands.
If Zhang Yi could empty out one of Walmart’s warehouses, not only would he have no worries about supplies during the apocalypse, but he’d also be able to live in style.
As the warehouse supervisor, Zhang Yi was intimately familiar with every shelf, surveillance device, and staff schedule in the warehouse.
Emptying the warehouse would be no difficult task for him.
Once he made up his mind, Zhang Yi felt a sense of relief.
“Gurgle~”
Just then, his stomach growled in protest.
Zhang Yi patted his belly and glanced at the braised chicken rice he had bought earlier.
After hesitating for a moment, he chuckled and shook his head, deciding against eating takeout.
“The apocalypse is just a month away. I should enjoy all the delicious food I can now, or I’ll never get the chance again. Why be so stingy with myself?”
He had endured a month of cold and hunger, and now he desperately craved some warm, delicious food.
What’s the point of saving money?
After the world ends, money will just be worthless paper. Might as well spend it all now and not let it go to waste.
With a carefree turn, Zhang Yi headed out to find a high-end restaurant he had always been too frugal to visit before, ready to indulge in a hearty meal.
