I Really Have X-ray Superpower - Chapter 7 - The Auction Hall
No sooner had Ye Tian left than Boss Liu called his superior to relay the incident to Wu Gang, who is the leader of the Hongshan Gang at the antique market. Wu Gang also became interested in Ye Tian.
“You just mentioned an auction hall, where is it? Sounds interesting. And you’re saying this jade is really worth two hundred thousand? Brother might actually get rich, haha.”
Ye Tian now had money on his mind. This quick way to make money was appealing, yet he feared exposure. Hearing about the auction, he thought maybe he could make some extra money to afford a wife and children, especially since his parents had been working away from home for over a decade, and he wasn’t sure if they had saved any money for him to start a family.
The two arrived via the sellers’ entrance at the auction hall, which was under strict management by the antique market to ensure the sellers’ information security.
The Qingzhu Gang primarily oversaw the auction hall, deterring any ill-intentioned disruptors.
It was said that once, a man who tried to sell a worthless fake ended up in the hospital, so the items in the auction hall were either authenticated by experts or were very valuable. Zhao Xue explained this to Ye Tian.
After filling out their personal information and bank details, and receiving their auction hall credentials, they noticed it was only starting at 8:30 PM, so they decided to have dinner with Zhao Xue.
Jinyu Lanhua Restaurant, one of the top restaurants in Huanan City, made Ye Tian wonder if he had inadvertently saved some young lady’s life.
Ye Tian thoroughly enjoyed the meal, indulging in Australian lobsters, two at once, a rarity for him. Accompanied by a beauty, his eyes occasionally wandered over Zhao Xue’s proud 36D bust.
Zhao Xue was dressed in a white Adidas tracksuit, which perfectly accentuated her figure. Her long ponytail and the girl-next-door innocence made Ye Tian fantasize during the meal about losing his virginity of eighteen years to her, feeling it would be no loss.
After a satisfying meal, they took a taxi back to the antique market to attend the auction of Ye Tian’s Kunlun jade. Meanwhile, Zhao Xue had another piece, the blood heart jade, processed into a pendant to wear herself, considering it as the first gift from Ye Tian.
After entering the auction hall, Ye Tian noticed that although the place didn’t appear very large from the outside, it was bustling with people inside. There were men, women, the elderly, and young folks, and even quite a few people wearing masks.
Ye Tian and Zhao Xue found a relatively secluded corner to sit. As they scanned the room, Ye Tian spotted Young Master Li from earlier. This time, he was flanked by two curvaceous women on either side, clearly enjoying himself.
“Damn, having money really is great,” Ye Tian muttered under his breath, envious. He secretly vowed to enjoy some leisure and indulgence himself once he made his fortune.
The auction was divided into three segments: artworks like the four arts of the scholar1, jade pieces, and rare treasures.
An old man with a white beard took the stage, chattering about the auction rules and procedures. Ye Tian didn’t pay much attention to his words since most of that seemed like formalities.
The first category, the four arts of the scholar, showcased items like paintings and calligraphy. Although Ye Tian could use his X-ray vision to distinguish the genuine pieces from fakes, this wasn’t a realistic category for him to make money in. The prices were far beyond his current reach.
It wasn’t until Ye Tian’s Kunlun jade-a pure, snow-white piece-was up for auction that he became fully alert, listening attentively to the bidding around him.
In the end, the Kunlun jade sold for a staggering 500,000. To everyone’s surprise, the buyer turned out to be none other than Young Master Li, the rich second generation. He paid double the market value for the jade, leaving everyone speechless at his recklessness.
“Next, we have a very special item: a pill called the ‘All-disease Pill,'” the auctioneer announced. “Its main benefits are strengthening the body and promoting blood circulation. We’ve had it examined by a professional pharmaceutical appraiser and confirmed that it’s not harmful to humans. The starting price is 100,000.”
The crowd erupted into laughter. In this modern era, the idea of a miracle pill sounded ridiculous. Spending 100,000 for a pill that claimed to “strengthen the body and promote blood circulation” seemed absurd, especially when it was grandly named the ‘All-disease Pill.’
However, Ye Tian’s attention was laser-focused on the pill. Using his X-ray vision, he noticed something extraordinary-there was a strange energy flowing within the pill. It was clear to him that this wasn’t an ordinary item. If it weren’t for his unique ability, even he might have dismissed it as nothing more than a glorified vitamin. Ye Tian decided he had to buy the pill for further examination.
“200,000 once… 200,000 twice…”
To Ye Tian’s annoyance, Young Master Li joined the bidding again, shouting out ridiculously high amounts without any hesitation.
“Here we go again,” Ye Tian thought, gritting his teeth. This rich second generation clearly had more money than sense, bidding without care. But Ye Tian couldn’t let this pill slip away-he was certain it wasn’t as simple as it appeared.
Quickly calculating his finances, Ye Tian lifted his bidder number. “300,000 from bidder 66! 300,000 once!”
“400,000 from bidder 88!”
Ye Tian’s eyes burned with frustration. Sure enough, it was Young Master Li again, throwing his money around with reckless abandon. It was infuriating to watch.
Ye Tian took another hard look at the pill with his X-ray vision, his resolve strengthening. Whatever this pill was, it held untapped potential. Desperate, he raised his bidder number one more time, risking every last cent he had just earned.
“All my cash is on this. You’d better be worth it,” Ye Tian thought, his heart pounding as he placed his final gamble.
“500,000 once, 500,000 twice, 500,000 three times-sold! Congratulations to bidder number 66 for winning the ‘All-disease Pill’ for 500,000!”
“What an idiot, right? Paying 500,000 for a pill that no one even knows what it does.” Young Master Li smirked at Ye Tian, clearly reveling in the satisfaction of driving up the price and making Ye Tian pay more.
“Is this ‘All-disease Pill’ even worth 500,000? Do you know what it does? And you were actually competing with that rich second generation, Li Qianwan?” Zhao Xue stared at Ye Tian with wide eyes.
“I don’t know either, but I have this gut feeling that the ‘All-disease Pill’ isn’t as simple as it seems. I just wanted to buy it and study it. You said his name is Li Qianwan?”
“Yeah, he’s one of the younger members of the Li Family. Just a typical rich second generation who doesn’t take anything seriously.”
At that moment, Ye Tian wore a pained expression like he’d been constipated all day. He knew Li Qianwan had purposely driven up the price, but there wasn’t much he could do about it. All he could do now was gamble that the ‘All-disease Pill’ would turn out to be worth it.
After the long auction finally ended, Ye Tian took possession of the ‘All-disease Pill’ and had just stepped out of the auction hall when he received a call. It was from Nie Xiaoyue’s mother, who told him that Nie Xiaoyue was in critical condition and wanted to see him. She pleaded for Ye Tian to come to the hospital immediately.
Ye Tian had originally been entertaining thoughts of possibly finding some alone time with Zhao Xue later that evening-maybe even saying goodbye to the eighteen years he’d spent as a virgin. But now that Nie Xiaoyue was critically ill and wanted to see him, there wasn’t time to hesitate, even though he knew that Nie Feng didn’t have the best opinion of him.
After some deliberation, Ye Tian ultimately decided to go see Nie Xiaoyue. Who knows? Maybe his special eyesight could help save her life.
Hanging up the phone, Ye Tian explained to Zhao Xue that he needed to visit a friend in the hospital. Without waiting for her response, he hailed a taxi and left.
