Ye Tian furrowed his brows and asked, “Why are you still here?”

“What’s it to you?” Nie Xiaoyue turned her head away, refusing to look at Ye Tian.

Ye Tian felt somewhat helpless; this girl’s temper was just like that.

Then, he turned his gaze towards the bald man and his group.

“So, what are we going to do about today’s incident?” Ye Tian held a metal rod, weighing it lightly in his hand.

“What do you want to do?” The bald man was genuinely scared. He had thought he could teach the young man a lesson, but instead, he had been thoroughly beaten himself.

“Look, we’re all grown men here, I don’t want to talk too much. Just hand over all the money you have on you as compensation for my emotional distress and medical expenses. You don’t have a problem with that, right?” Ye Tian’s eyes fixed sternly on the bald man.

The bald man dared not object. At this point, he was at Ye Tian’s mercy, and he could only bow his head in acknowledgement.

Seven or eight brothers pooled together just over a thousand yuan and handed it to Ye Tian.

“All these people and this is all you’ve got? You’re really damn poor. Get lost, and if I see you again, I’ll take care of each one of you myself.”

Looking at the little over a thousand yuan in his hand, Ye Tian scornfully curled his lip.

“Much obliged.”

The bald man didn’t dare to look back and just ran off.

Ye Tian flipped him the middle finger, then turned back to look at Nie Xiaoyue, only to find that she had already fainted on the ground.

“Damn it!”

Without a second thought, he hoisted the girl over his shoulder and hurried downstairs.

Reaching the street, he hailed a taxi and rushed directly to the hospital.

“Doctor, doctor! Help!”

Ye Tian carried Nie Xiaoyue, running and shouting. A doctor approached quickly, noticing Nie Xiaoyue’s pale face with a furrowed brow.

“What happened to her?” the doctor asked.

“Doctor, she has a huge tumor near her heart. Please save her, I don’t know what’s wrong, she just fainted after drinking a little.”

Ye Tian could no longer hold back; he needed to explain clearly what he had seen to the doctor to hasten the diagnosis of Nie Xiaoyue’s condition.

“Is that so? Don’t worry, I’ll get someone to prepare for surgery right now.”

Watching Nie Xiaoyue being wheeled into the operating room, Ye Tian breathed a sigh of relief.

Ye Tian wasn’t a fool. He was well aware of Nie Xiaoyue’s feelings for him, and there was no way he’d let her just faint in front of him without doing anything.

The problem was, he wasn’t a doctor and had no idea whether the tumor she had was benign or malignant. If it turned out to be malignant, the chances of successfully removing it might be slim.

Taking a deep breath, Ye Tian walked over to the edge of the hallway, pulled out a cigarette, and lit it, taking a long drag.

Before he could finish the cigarette, his phone buzzed. Except, it wasn’t his phone-it was Nie Xiaoyue’s.

“Hello, Xiaoyue? Where are you?” A woman’s voice came through on the other end. The caller ID showed it was Nie Xiaoyue’s mother.

Ye Tian inhaled deeply. This was something he had to explain to her parents.

“Hello, ma’am. I’m Ye Tian, Xiaoyue’s classmate,” he said.

The woman on the other end was clearly startled by Ye Tian’s voice. It took her a few seconds to recover before finally speaking. “Ah, I see… I thought you all had a gathering tonight. Why are you the one answering? Where’s Xiaoyue?”

“Ma’am, here’s what happened…”

Ye Tian explained the entire situation to the woman on the phone, though he deliberately left out the part about Nie Xiaoyue having a tumor.

“What? Xiaoyue’s in the hospital? Which hospital? I’m coming right now!”

“XXX Hospital…”

After relaying the information, Ye Tian hung up and anxiously waited for the surgery to finish.

About ten minutes later, he was sitting in his seat, worry etched all over his face. Suddenly, he noticed a man and a woman approaching from a distance. Judging by the woman’s appearance, Ye Tian could tell she bore some resemblance to Nie Xiaoyue.

“You must be Ye Tian?” The woman, her expression full of worry, walked quickly up to him.

“Yes. Nice to meet you, ma’am,” Ye Tian responded politely.

“How is my daughter? Is she alright?”

“Don’t worry, ma’am. Xiaoyue is going to be okay,” Ye Tian reassured her.

After some brief conversation, Ye Tian was led to the stairwell by Nie Xiaoyue’s father, Nie Feng.

“So, you’re Ye Tian?” Nie Feng began. “I really appreciate you saving my daughter. But if you think this is some shortcut to getting closer to her and winning her heart, I’d advise you to drop that idea right now. If it’s money you’re after, I have tens of thousands here. Take it and spend it however you like. But you and she are from different worlds. My advice to you is to leave her as soon as you can.”

Nie Feng’s words completely caught Ye Tian off guard. Did this man think he’d saved Nie Xiaoyue because he was interested in her?

“Sir, I understand what you’re saying,” Ye Tian replied calmly. “But let me tell you something: never look down on a young man just because he’s poor. I saved Xiaoyue because I wanted to, not because I had any interest in your Nie Group. If there’s nothing else, I’ll be on my way.”

With that, Ye Tian turned and walked away without looking back.

Nie Feng stood alone where he was, watching Ye Tian’s retreating figure. He held a bank card in his hand, feeling somewhat at a loss.

After a while, a smile appeared at the corner of his mouth. He muttered to himself, “He’s an interesting young man. Xiaoyue has good taste.”

After leaving the hospital, Ye Tian walked on the main street. It was already late, and there were few pedestrians under the street lights.

“Let’s just go home. What a headache.”

He was in a bad mood as he walked home, but when he was still a few blocks away, he suddenly heard a woman’s scream coming from an alley nearby.

“Help!”

Ye Tian frowned and immediately looked towards the wall. His eyes seemed to penetrate the thick wall, and he saw a thin man pinning a woman against it, his hands groping all over her body.

Ye Tian hadn’t been in the mood to intervene, but the incident was happening right in front of him, and he couldn’t just ignore it, especially since the woman was quite attractive.

He walked into the alley and shouted at the man, “Stop! Let go of her and let me handle this.”

Startled by the shout, the thin man jumped, and the woman managed to escape to Ye Tian’s side.

Under the somewhat yellowish street lights, he could see the woman’s face clearly. She wasn’t stunningly beautiful, but she could pass for a model.

She had an intangible charm, and her perfect figure was exposed in front of Ye Tian’s eyes, clearly showing her naivety.

“Hey, do you know that meddling can get you beaten?”

The thin man was not at all intimidated, even though Ye Tian was stronger. He pulled a shiny sharp knife from his pocket, his eyes gleaming menacingly.

“I wouldn’t know, I’m usually the one doing the beating… no one can beat me…”
