I Am Not a Master - Chapter 69
When Old Master Yu was snatched away by a dozen ghosts, the commotion was quite significant. It wasn’t just the ghosts; the Yu brothers were involved too. They had been kneeling in the living room, hoping to have a heartfelt chat with their father. Even if their dad couldn’t appear physically, they still wanted to talk. However, before they could say much, they watched in horror as the coffin in the room was suddenly knocked over. The altar’s fruits and chicken legs were swept onto the floor, and even the dining table was flipped, scattering the yet-to-be-cleared bowls and utensils all over. The whole room was a mess.
This unexpected turn of events gave the three Yu brothers quite a scare. They looked at each other, cold sweat forming on their foreheads as they panicked, “What happened? Why did everything suddenly get knocked over? Could it be that dad got angry with us?”
“It doesn’t seem like it. Shifu Jingxing said dad wasn’t angry with us. Why would he suddenly knock things over without any reason?”
“What happened then?”
“Could it really be some kind of trouble? Our dad couldn’t have gotten into trouble again, could he? With all this commotion, was he fighting with someone?”
If it wasn’t the old man throwing a tantrum, then it must be serious trouble-definitely something had happened to their father’s spirit!
Unfortunately, even though they surmised it was serious trouble, their cries and pleas were futile. Only when the noise in the living room finally settled down and no further sounds were heard did the anxiety of the Yu brothers escalate. First Yu said, “Hurry up, Deuce, go and ask Shifu Jingxing and Zhen Du to come over for the young monk! Third Yu, you stay here. I’ll go find a noble person!”
Blind to the spiritual realm, they could only seek help from Jingxing and Zhen Du, as well as their father’s noble ally, Master Gu. Now, they were the only ones who could help.
Second Yu complied and ran all the way to Baiyu Temple, gasping for breath in the cold winter, his clothes soaked with sweat. Zhen Du, already nursing a bandaged forehead and a limp, had taken another fall, making his limp even worse. He was in his room applying medicine and resting, while Jingxing was sweeping in the courtyard when he heard Second Yu had come looking for him, quite to his surprise.
“What happened?”
“He looked very anxious, said his dad was in trouble.”
Old Master Yu had long been in trouble, having become a ghost. There could only be trouble with his spirit now.
Jingxing went out to see, indeed finding Second Yu in tears. After hearing the cause, it turned out that the Yu family living room had mysteriously been smashed, right in front of them, as if some eerie force had fiercely fought in their living room. They couldn’t see it, and all they could do was fret. “Shifu Jingxing, please, come with me to check it out. I’m afraid my dad is in trouble again, and we, his unfilial sons, would be guilty beyond redemption!”
Jingxing said, “I’ll go take a look.”
Coincidentally, Zhen Du, hearing the news, also hobbled out, saying, “Old Master Yu is in trouble?”
Jingxing replied, “Yes, seems like trouble. I’m going to check.”
Zhen Du said, “I’ll go with you.”
Jingxing glanced at Zhen Du, who looked equally miserable, “…Maybe you should rest a bit?”
Zhen Du chuckled, “No worries, I’m like this all year round, I’m used to it.”
Jingxing: “…”
When they finally left, Jingxing also called Jingkong to help look after Zhen Du, thinking that if Zhen Du really fainted or something on the way, they could at least carry him back. After all, nearly six feet four and though looking very thin, Zhen Du was still quite heavy.
Zhen Du, Jingxing, and Jingkong had barely returned to Baiyu Temple before they were out again.
When they arrived at the Yu Family’s house, they found the living room in complete disarray. The Old Master Yu, who had been sitting on the altar, was nowhere to be seen, and even the little ghosts that had been with him had vanished without a trace.
Jingxing and Zhen Du walked around the living room, spotting several cold, eerie handprints on the altar. “Old Master Yu must have been taken by other ghosts.”
The Yu Family’s three brothers were shocked. “What? Which ghosts would want to take our father?”
Zhen Du explained, “From what I know, some evil ghosts target newly deceased souls for cultivation.”
Upon hearing this, the Yu brothers were in an uproar. Initially worried to tears, they now turned red with anger, their eyes blazing with fury. How dare these evil ghosts want to consume their father’s soul? This was outrageous!
“What kind of evil ghost is so vile, relying on consuming others’ souls for cultivation? It’s despicable. Young monks, please, save our father. He died tragically and hadn’t lived enough. Now, even in death, he faces such calamity. We, as sons, are truly unfilial!”
They wanted to save him, of course, but without knowing where he was, it was difficult to help.
Just as they were in a bind, a little ghost suddenly flew in, poking its head through the wall as if it were a decoration. It looked familiar, one of those who had been munching on chicken legs earlier. With a chilling yet timid voice, it said, “I know where they are. Master Gu has already gone ahead…”
Now that they had a guide, things were looking up.
Jingxing explained the situation to the Yu brothers and followed the little ghost out. The Yu Family escorted the three young monks to the door, nervously watching them leave, hands clasped in prayer, hoping their father could be rescued.
Meanwhile, Gu Feiyin, with her ghost flying carpet, moved swiftly through the dense forest, soon arriving at a cliff. The little ghost indicated that the so-called big brother was inside. The location was well-chosen, as the entrance was at the cliff, making it hard for others to find. Even if discovered, entering would require effort, giving the ghosts inside time to prepare.
Such a hidden lair surely contained plenty of gold, silver, jewels, Ghost Money…
“Master, the big brother has dozens of ghosts under him. They’re quite formidable, and we’re just a few. We’re no match for them.”
“Yes, Master. Shouldn’t we gather more ghosts and come back? Or wait for Jingxing and Zhen Du to arrive, and then go in together? There’s strength in numbers.”
Gu Feiyin was busy pulling a yarn string, wondering if it was enough to bind ghosts. No matter, if the ghost was too big, she’d just cut it in half; squeezing it would surely make it fit.
At this moment, Old Master Yu was indeed in deep trouble. He stubbornly said, “I won’t invite you. For my funeral, I’ll invite whoever I want. I won’t invite you to feast. You’re forcing me like bandits and robbers.”
This old man was asking for trouble, and he needed to be shown their power. “Hao-Ge, give him a lesson!”
With a snap, they dislocated one of his arms.
Old Master Yu had never seen such a scene. Terrified, he screamed and cried in pain. But after a while, he realized, huh? He wasn’t in excruciating pain, nor was he bleeding?
He widened his eyes, watching as Hao-Ge held his arm, gnawing on it with relish, even licking his lips in a greedy, vicious manner.
Was he eating, eating, eating his arm?
Old Master Yu: “…??!!”
He shut his eyes and fainted from anger.
