Good Night, Mr. Ghost - Chapter 89
Jiang Chenyi turned his head to look behind him and saw a little boy with a round face. The boy’s cheeks flushed slightly upon seeing Jiang’s face, surprised at how handsome this big brother was.
Mumbling to himself, the boy repeated, “Big brother, why are you holding a dirty cat?”
“Dirty cat?” the young man asked with a playful smile.
“Yes, that’s a black cat, a bad cat,” the boy said, looking disdainfully at the tiny kitten.
Feeling the little creature in his hand tremble uneasily, the young man sighed and walked over to the boy, saying, “You’re Chinese, aren’t you?”
“Of course!”
“In ancient China, black cats were considered good, able to protect you, ward off demons, and safeguard your family. It’s in the West where black cats are seen as demonic symbols,” the young man continued with a smile. “So, little friend, don’t discriminate against black cats.”
“Really? But everyone says…” the boy hesitated.
The young man reached into his pocket with his other hand and pulled out a handful of candy, placing it in the boy’s hand with a smile. “You can look it up yourself; it’s all online.”
The boy eyed the pile of candy and swallowed hard, saying, “My parents told me not to eat things from strangers.”
“No problem, you can take it home. For now, give me one to eat, pick whichever you like,” Jiang Chenyi suggested with a grin.
The boy actually chose a piece of candy, peeled off the wrapper, and handed it to Jiang Chenyi.
Jiang Chenyi took it and popped it into his mouth.
After giving the candy, it was time for some education.
The young man, with the candy in his mouth, said, “Like I said, you can look it up.”
“Okay,” the boy nodded.
“And now that you’ve accepted my candy, can you promise me one thing?”
“What?” The boy’s expression turned wary again.
The young man chuckled, “You’re quite the cautious little guy, aren’t you? Listen, if what I said is true, can you promise not to discriminate against others in the future? Whether it’s cats or anything else, can you treat them with fairness?”
The boy was taken aback, seemingly unable to grasp the meaning.
“Fairness?”
“Yes, it means not blindly following others, but doing what you believe is right. Sometimes, everyone makes mistakes together,” the young man said, standing up and ruffling the boy’s hair.
“You’ll understand someday.” The young man left, holding the black cat.
The boy clutched the candy in his hand.
Not blindly following others?
Will he understand someday?
Jiang Chenyi left with the black cat.
It’s uncertain what effect it will have.
But clearly, a child with a sense of justice is better than one who merely follows the crowd.
The little black cat now looked at him with admiration.
Though it didn’t understand what had happened, it seemed like something impressive.
Jiang cradled the kitten, struggling to open the door to his home, then walked inside, placing the little black cat on the table. He washed his hands, soap bubbles rolling over his fingers.
The young man looked at his reflection, his face carrying a hint of allure, and smiled, “Hopefully, you’ll grow up before I die, right?”
If the little black cat can’t fend for itself after he’s gone, that would truly be unfortunate.
He went out and prepared the filling from the steamed dumplings for the little black cat, placing it in a small dish.
The little black cat ate happily.
Jiang Chenyi munched on a soup dumpling while scrolling through his phone.
“Hmm, I see. Make sure to keep warm, or you’ll end up with a stomachache,” he said, glancing at the clueless little black cat.
It looked so easy to bully.
But a bath was necessary; there was no getting around it.
The young man reached out and gently picked up the kitten.
The little black cat was quite obedient, allowing him to handle it, seemingly trusting that he wouldn’t harm it.
He carried it into the bathroom.
Placing it on the sink, he tapped its tiny head, “Stay still, I’m going to give you a bath.”
“Meow~”
“Yes, meow.”
He filled the sink with warm water, testing it until it was just a bit hot.
He checked the little black cat’s hind leg-no blood, but perhaps a fracture.
Not sure if it could be healed, and there weren’t any pet hospitals around.
Tsk.
The little black cat looked at the water in the sink without much fear.
After enduring so many hardships, these seemingly harmless things no longer frightened it.
Besides, the human’s large hand was gently stroking it.
It felt reassured.
Jiang watched the little black cat obediently take its bath, his heart softening.
Now that its fur was wet, it looked even smaller, practically skin and bones.
He lathered some soap, carefully washing it, then rinsed it, removing all the grime. It smelled nice and clean.
Satisfied, Jiang wrapped it in his towel and used the hairdryer on a low setting to dry its fur.
The little black cat finally showed a hint of fear at the strange noise, but since the young man stayed by its side, it bravely faced the hairdryer, swatting at the blowing air with its paw.
Jiang gently held its tiny paw, chuckling, “Mischievous.”
“Meow meow!”
The little creature, now cared for, exuded a constant aura of happiness.
With the little one all tidied up, Jiang realized he had no idea where to buy cat food around here.
Watching the silly cat play with his fingers while sitting on his lap, he noticed its fur was now fluffy and soft, making it look a bit plumper.
Such a small figure sitting there, its back view was enough to melt anyone’s heart.
Jiang gave a helpless smile.
He remembered how Meng Jiang had a whole assortment of things.
This little one had none.
Ah, such is life, full of ups and downs.
Now, it was time to look up how to make cat food.
With the black cat around, even the house felt a bit warmer.
On the third day of his self-imposed exile, Jiang had gained a little kitten.
The kitten was very attached to him, almost as if it saw him as its father.
Fortunately, it was still small enough that Jiang could tuck it into the pocket of his jacket.
Together, they went shopping for groceries and household items.
Back home, Jiang followed an online recipe to prepare a meal for the kitten.
The little black cat sat on the table, eating happily.
Jiang watched it, deciding not to name it for now.
Naming it meant taking full responsibility.
Poor Meng Jiang had a father, but this little one had no one to rely on.
In the evening, Jiang played games while the little black cat lay on his lap, purring contentedly under his gentle strokes.
At ten o’clock, Jiang Chenyi went to bed as usual. It was a habit he had developed and had no intention of changing. The little black cat curled up beside him, happily drifting off to sleep. For the first time, it slept so peacefully, as if it had been ages since anyone had shown it such care and affection. It snuggled closer to the young man, feeling the rhythm of his breathing. To the little cat, this person was undoubtedly the greatest in the world, its favorite being.
In the middle of the night, the door suddenly opened. Meng Loudi surveyed the scene before him. The clean floors and furniture, the disheveled blanket on the sofa-all of it told him what he needed to know. His Chenyi was here.
Since learning of Jiang Chenyi’s departure, Mr. Ghost had been in a state of despair. He had spent two days in deep reflection before emerging from his room. Then, Qianmian had nervously presented him with the jade ring and a ring. At that moment, Mr. Ghost’s face was as dark as a storm cloud. Leaving the jade ring behind was one thing, but why leave the ring too? How cruel and heartless!
But as he took the ring and jade ring, he noticed something off. Upon closer inspection, the ring, though very similar, was clearly a counterfeit! Look at the smooth surface-it looked brand new! Mr. Ghost’s ring had scratches on it. This wasn’t Jiang Chenyi’s ring at all!
Life is full of ups and downs, and just when Meng Loudi was at his lowest, ready to end it all, he found a glimmer of hope. Despite the harsh, cold, and heartless words in the letter, which painted Jiang Chenyi as a playboy, the signs were clear. Jiang Chenyi still loved him! There had to be a reason for all this!
Determined to find his partner and get to the bottom of it, Mr. Ghost set off. He had spent a long time downstairs before nervously coming up and opening the door. It was three in the morning. If Chenyi dared to be awake, he would be angry.
Entering the bedroom, he was greeted by darkness and a pair of glowing green eyes. Raising something else? After leaving him, he had the nerve to raise something else! How outrageous!
Mr. Ghost, expressionless, walked over and gently knocked the little cat unconscious. In the darkness, he gazed at his beloved’s face. Asleep. So adorable. Mr. Ghost took off his clothes, climbed into bed, and embraced him. The anger and frustration of the past few days melted away as he held Jiang Chenyi. It was a comforting feeling. His Chenyi.
Mr. Ghost inhaled his scent. There must be a reason, a hidden cause for Jiang Chenyi’s actions, and he was determined to uncover it.
When Jiang Chenyi woke up, he was a bit dazed. Sitting up in bed, he rubbed his head with a wry smile. “Honestly, dreaming of Loudi again. At this rate, I’m going to waver.”
He glanced to the side. The little black cat lay sprawled out, looking adorably silly.
The young man reached out and scratched its little belly, “Hey, little buddy, time to wake up.”
It seemed to be a boy.
The black cat grumbled twice, then suddenly opened its eyes, flipping up from the bed, and looked around warily.
It seemed to be on guard against something.
The man found its cautious demeanor amusing, reached out, pinched its tiny ears, and chuckled, “What’s up? Not used to it?”
“Meow~” The little black cat, unsure of what had transpired last night, rubbed against the young man’s palm.
Jiang Chenyi got up from the bed to make breakfast.
In a place where he couldn’t see, Mr. Ghost looked at the bead in his hand, thinking: The Luo Family’s item is quite impressive, completely concealing his presence, not even a trace of his aura remains.
Jiang dragged his slippers to the kitchen, prepared fresh shrimp, decided to crush the shrimp meat, mix it with eggs, and steam it without adding salt.
He planned to make a portion for the little black cat, and he could enjoy his with some spicy sauce.
“Mr. Ghost, this should be pretty good,” the young man almost instinctively said to one side.
After speaking, Jiang Chenyi paused, and the hidden Mr. Ghost also paused.
Meng Loudi carefully observed his beloved’s expression, becoming more certain that Jiang Chenyi definitely loved him.
But why did he look so sad?
Clearly, he was the one who had been abandoned.
Making such a sorrowful expression was against the rules.
Jiang then fell silent, slowly finished cooking, and ate with the little kitten.
Mr. Ghost stood by, watching him.
To avoid revealing himself, Mr. Ghost decided to remain standing.
Meanwhile, the little black cat seemed to sense another presence in the room, often showing a puzzled expression as it glanced around.
