Good Night, Mr. Ghost - Chapter 83
Jiang cradled the other’s arm, feeling a sudden heaviness in his heart.
He always had a bad premonition, as if something unpleasant was about to happen.
This feeling persisted until the New Year.
This time, Mr. and Mrs. Jiang weren’t coming, and it was said that their visits would gradually become less frequent.
Jiang wasn’t surprised; every visit left them sighing deeply, and for the sake of “out of sight, out of mind,” they preferred not to come.
Mr. Ghost was somewhat surprised.
“Mom and Dad aren’t coming anymore?”
“Yeah, I forgot to tell you. Every time they come to the human world, it takes a lot out of them. It’s better to reduce the visits, otherwise it seems like they’re worried you might bully me,” Jiang said with his eyes wide open, telling a blatant lie.
“Is that so?” Meng Loudi was still a bit puzzled, but it seemed there was nothing wrong with that.
“Yeah, let’s make dumplings!” Jiang called out.
The two of them, just like in the past two years, made a huge batch of dumplings.
This time, there were a host of supernatural beings to feed.
Except this time, one of the little demons was Meng Jiang’s.
A little sparrow perched on Meng Jiang’s head, looking tiny, fluffy, and soft, blissfully closing its eyes, appearing extremely tender.
The tabby cat watched the dead sparrow on the branch with envy in its eyes.
Oh heavens! Such a foolish sparrow, yet it had ascended to such heights! Oh heavens! Was its beauty just for show?!
With a melancholic lick of its paw, the tabby cat casually grabbed a passing demon, “Meow, take a picture of me.”
Although sad, it still had to manage its own career.
Just like a cat in its prime beauty~
After the dumplings were cooked, they joyfully ate them.
Jiang and Mr. Ghost sat on the sofa, eating dumplings while watching the Chinese New Year Gala.
This time, the dumplings were filled with pork and scallions, plump and juicy. The slight spiciness of the scallions combined with the juicy pork created a delicious flavor.
However, after eating two, Jiang abruptly put down his chopsticks. “I need to use the restroom!”
He then hurried up to the bathroom on the second floor.
Jiang Chenyi had just closed the door when he began to vomit in front of the sink.
Bits of dumpling and stomach acid surged out, followed by streaks of blood, and then, a large mouthful of fresh blood.
Jiang Chenyi barely managed to suppress the agonizing pain in his chest only to see the bloody mess before him.
Jiang stared at the crimson in the sink, his mind beginning to blur.
But there was still a bizarre feeling of inevitability in his heart.
As though it was always meant to be this way.
The paths of the living and the dead are different, separated by yin and yang.
It wasn’t said in jest.
Calmly, the young man turned on the tap, washed everything away, and carefully cleaned up, rinsing his mouth to ensure no trace of blood remained.
He couldn’t let Meng Loudi find out. Absolutely not.
For the sake of their final moments together.
The young man looked at his reflection in the mirror, his expressionless face slowly breaking into a gentle smile.
Just as he had once said.
Let’s just keep going like this.
Jiang Chenyi calmly walked out of the bathroom and returned to the lobby.
Mr. Ghost had already stopped eating, standing dumbfounded at the foot of the stairs, surrounded by trembling supernatural beings who had cleared a space for him.
Jiang observed the scene.
From appearances alone, it was like a pitiful beauty being feared by a pack of wild beasts.
“What are you doing standing here?” Jiang hurried down the stairs and threw himself at Meng Loudi, planting a kiss on his neck.
Mr. Ghost held him, standing firmly in place. “You were gone for a while.”
His voice carried a hint of concern.
Jiang Chenyi grinned mischievously and whispered in his ear, “I suddenly had a stomachache, but thanks to someone, it was quite difficult to deal with.”
Mr. Ghost’s cheeks flushed, his gaze wandering as if recalling something he shouldn’t.
“I understand. I’ll be more restrained next time,” Meng Loudi promised, though not very convincingly.
Jiang pulled him to the sofa, resignedly saying, “I don’t believe you. You never keep your word.”
How many times had he heard such promises?
Not many had been fulfilled.
After finishing their dumplings, with Mr. and Mrs. Jiang absent, Jiang decided not to stay up for the Chinese New Year Gala. He stretched and said, “Since my parents aren’t here today, let’s go upstairs and sleep.”
“Alright,” Mr. Ghost agreed obediently.
They went upstairs, washed up, and got into bed.
Jiang wrapped his arms around Meng Loudi’s waist and pondered, “When do you start work?”
“The sixteenth of the first lunar month,” Mr. Ghost replied, stroking his hair. “I can stay with Chenyi for fifteen more days.”
“Okay. Is there anything you want to do?” Jiang snuggled against his skin, once again marveling at the dog man’s smooth complexion.
It was warm now, feeling like soft resin, slick and comforting.
Meng Loudi tilted his head, looking at him, “Is there anything Chenyi wants to do?”
“Not really, just wondering if you have anything in mind. Once you start work, we might not have much time together. Thinking about it makes me a bit sad,” Jiang said, his voice soft and tender, sounding almost like a plea.
“Even though Meng Jiang and the little sparrow keep me company, and it’s quite nice, I still look forward to Mr. Ghost coming home,” Jiang’s eyes were warm.
This was the first time Jiang Chenyi had clearly expressed his anticipation for his return.
Upon hearing this, Meng Loudi sat up abruptly, eagerly saying, “If that’s the case, Chenyi should come to work with me! Or I could skip work altogether! Really!”
His eyes sparkled, rivaling Meng Jiang’s.
Jiang’s smile faded, and he pinched Mr. Ghost’s flesh hard, scolding, “What nonsense are you talking about?! How can you be so irresponsible?! As a chairman under scrutiny, you must shoulder your responsibilities! And a man shouldn’t be clingy all the time!”
“I’ve had enough of this. Fine, since Chenyi says so, I’ll do my best,” Mr. Ghost wilted like a frost-bitten eggplant.
“Alright, let’s sleep. I’ll spend quality time with you these days,” Jiang embraced him, snuggling into his arms.
Mr. Ghost felt his warmth, his mood lifting as he held him and closed his eyes.
But where Mr. Ghost couldn’t see, those clear brown eyes were filled with melancholy and reluctance.
What should be done?
Fifteen joyful days flew by in the blink of an eye.
During this time, Jiang was at Mr. Ghost’s beck and call, making Meng Loudi feel quite pleased with himself.
After trying out everything he wanted, Meng Loudi looked at his beloved with immense satisfaction.
Chenyi was exhausted yesterday; he must let him rest well!
Mr. Ghost gently took Jiang Chenyi’s hand, kissed it, and thought to himself, “Chenyi’s skin has gotten even fairer.”
His fingers were long and slender, with nails that had a pinkish hue, and the lunula was prominent. The skin was so translucent that the veins were clearly visible.
Meng Loudi kissed his hand again, murmuring, “Ah, so adorable.”
With a sigh of contentment, he tiptoed out and headed to the lobby.
Meng Jiang’s mind had become sharper lately. Seeing its dad come down, it trotted over, rubbing against his pant leg.
Mr. Ghost glanced at the half-full dog bowl and stroked his chin, “Pretty clever.”
Meng Jiang barked, “Woof woof woof.”
Actually, Meng Jiang had been able to pour its own dog food for months!
But Mr. Ghost didn’t care when Meng Jiang had learned this. He squatted down, patted the dog’s head, and chuckled, “Be good and grow up quickly. Once you turn into a demon, I’ll buy you a new house.”
Then, I’ll kick you and that pesky sparrow out.
Mr. Ghost smiled slyly. It was because of their presence that Chenyi was reluctant to try new places.
Those darn fools.
Unaware of its dad’s dark thoughts, Meng Jiang continued to circle around him foolishly.
After petting the dog, Meng Loudi stood up, sat on the sofa, and crossed his legs, talking to himself.
“Why does he care so much? Why does he like that TV show?”
He picked up his phone and started searching. Numerous popular videos popped up on his screen.
Mr. Ghost clicked on one.
Music and a man’s voice emanated from the device.
Meng Loudi listened thoughtfully, “Hmm, is this what it takes? He might like it.”
Jiang Chenyi slept until nine, then got up to use the bathroom.
These days, he had only coughed up blood once.
But who knows if it will get worse in the future?
If he fails to hide it and Meng Loudi finds out, what will happen?
He’ll definitely go crazy, maybe both of them will.
Ah, it’s so exhausting.
He needed to think about how to solve this issue.
After tidying up, he went downstairs, and everything he saw was beautiful.
Mr. Ghost, like a figure in a painting, sat on the sofa reviewing documents, while Meng Jiang and the little sparrow chased each other around the room.
Mr. Ghost’s hair was tied up, revealing his alabaster ears, as exquisite as a work of art.
Jiang walked over, wrapped his arms around his neck from behind, and smiled, “You’re up early today.”
“Yeah, I didn’t feel like sleeping in today. You got up early too,” Mr. Ghost said, holding his hand and giving it a kiss.
“Today is the Lantern Festival, we should have some tangyuan. Mr. Ghost, let’s go out and buy some,” Jiang flipped off the sofa, landing beside Mr. Ghost, his slippers flying off in the process.
With a cheerful grin, Jiang turned his head and said, “Meng Jiang, Meng Jiang, could you help Daddy find his slippers?”
Meng Jiang, tongue out and full of energy, eagerly began searching for the slippers, eventually delivering them to Jiang Chenyi’s feet.
Jiang slipped his feet into the slippers, ruffling the black dog’s head, and laughed, “Good boy, Meng Jiang~ Honey, honey, look how well-behaved our son is~”
Mr. Ghost replied, “Yes, very well-behaved. You’re amazing, dear.”
Right on point!
“Hahaha!” Jiang laughed heartily, clinging to Mr. Ghost’s shoulder, and said, “Let’s go, let’s go, time for shopping!”
Upon hearing the word “shopping,” Meng Jiang got excited, pawing at Jiang’s knee, tongue out, with eyes full of big expectations.
“Woof woof-woof!”
Jiang Chenyi noticed the eager look in his furry son’s eyes and helplessly ruffled its head, saying, “It’s not possible right now, Meng Jiang is too big to take out. Once Meng Jiang can transform into a human form, Daddy will take Meng Jiang out. For now, you’ll have to be patient.”
Such a big dog, standing up it could reach his shoulders, how could he dare take it out!
Meng Jiang’s ears drooped in disappointment, looking at Jiang with a pitiful expression.
Jiang Chenyi chuckled, reaching out to rub its ears, and said, “Don’t be upset, Daddy will bring you back some snacks and toys. What do you want?”
Upon hearing this, Meng Jiang’s eyes lit up, and it dashed to the kitchen, rummaging through the lower cabinets before returning with a bag in its mouth, placing it in Jiang Chenyi’s hand.
Well, that’s the snack it wants.
