Good Night, Mr. Ghost - Chapter 79
Mr. Ghost finished dealing with the documents and handed them to Bai Lu, promptly sending him away.
“What did he say?” Mr. Ghost inquired.
Jiang propped his chin up and chuckled, “You already know, don’t you?”
Meng Loudi laughed, “Do I?”
Jiang Chenyi scoffed, “A dog man pretending to be harmless, looking so handsome yet being so fierce.”
“Don’t you like it?” Mr. Ghost sat down, affectionately wrapping his arm around Jiang’s shoulder.
Jiang Chenyi thought for a moment and then honestly replied, “I do.”
The men of the Jiang Family are known for their loyalty and integrity. When they say they like someone, they truly mean it; when they say they love someone, it’s genuine. Once they’ve chosen someone, they won’t go back on their word.
It’s like, once they’ve made their choice, they’ll stick together even if it means enduring hardships.
Simply put, they’re a bit stubborn.
If they find a good partner, it’s a blessing. But if they encounter someone deceitful, it’s just bad luck.
In short, they’re a bit masochistic.
But the Jiang Family has been fortunate. Despite any initial hardships or tearful tales, things always turn out well in the end.
The family values teach that a man should be devoted and committed, taking responsibility until the end.
Now, Jiang looks at his family’s Mr. Ghost, maintaining his consistent attitude.
Mr. Ghost is delighted, even finding the sight of Meng Jiang, who eagerly seeks attention, more agreeable.
Meng Jiang enjoys the affection from both of his “fathers,” feeling so comfortable that it wants to roll around.
Regardless of how Jiang Chenyi and Meng Loudi perceive it, in Meng Jiang’s eyes, they are “fathers.”
After all, they raised it and have been by its side day and night.
To Meng Jiang, there’s no difference between it and humans, except perhaps in appearance.
As for the little sparrow, that’s something special. How special exactly, Meng Jiang isn’t sure yet. But it will understand in time.
Jiang Chenyi has overcome the greatest ordeal of his life, with only a small lingering issue: sometimes his right ankle experiences a sharp pain. Other than that, he’s fine.
Now, he faces a new challenge.
Mr. Ghost insists on keeping him close at all times, never allowing a distance greater than ten meters, even bringing him along to meetings.
It’s quite overwhelming.
Jiang sits beside Meng Loudi, wearing a polite smile, observing the people at the table.
They’re currently in a meeting, seemingly discussing the results of a certain project.
Beside him sits a familiar face.
Liu Juncai, the eldest young master of the Liu Family.
After the meeting concludes, everyone else leaves the room, leaving Liu Juncai, Chenyi, and Mr. Ghost behind.
Once the others have departed, Liu Juncai straightens his clothes, stands up from his chair, and suddenly kneels on the ground.
The unexpected gesture startles Jiang Chenyi.
Liu Juncai’s kneeling posture is impeccable, very graceful. After kneeling, he looks up and says, “I’m truly sorry. I didn’t expect my issues with Luo Hui to affect you, Mr. Jiang.”
“No, no, it’s alright. Please stand up!” Jiang waves his hands frantically.
A man’s dignity is priceless!
How can you kneel so easily!
Liu Juncai stood up, his expression calm and collected, then sat back down in his seat. “Regardless, I still apologize.”
“No worries, I think it’s alright. You can’t really be blamed for this,” Jiang replied with a slight smile.
Liu Juncai flashed a teasing grin. “Mr. Jiang is truly understanding, unlike Mr. Meng, who once threatened to skin us alive.”
Jiang maintained his smile, though he knew it was a bit exaggerated. It was something Mr. Ghost might actually do.
Then the man took a document from the folder beside him and pushed it towards Jiang Chenyi.
“This is my compensation. Please accept it.”
Mr. Ghost glanced at the document. “Take it, Chenyi. It’s rightfully yours.”
Jiang Chenyi: “…”
So annoying.
Liu Juncai nodded as well. “Don’t refuse me, or I’ll feel guilty.”
Jiang picked up the document. “Alright then, I’ll accept it.”
“Well, my business here is done, so I’ll be off.” Liu Juncai was straightforward and efficient.
The young man looked at the document and asked, “Please wait a moment. I’d like to know, Mr. Liu, how did you come to know Luo Hui?”
He was genuinely curious.
Why was Luo Yun so certain that Luo Hui couldn’t possibly be around Liu Juncai?
Liu Juncai thought for a moment. “There’s nothing much to it. I bought the treasure at an auction organized by the Luo Family. However, for some reason, the Luo Family seemed to have kept this from Luo Yun and even included an artifact to conceal its presence. Ultimately, most of the responsibility lies with the Luo Family.”
He was like a smiling fox, deftly shifting the blame onto the Luo Family.
Meng Loudi nodded. “Understood. I’ll handle it accordingly.”
The Luo Family would definitely pay this time.
The eldest young master of the Liu Family was quite pleased with his successful maneuver.
Liu Juncai walked lightly towards the exit, then paused to explain, “It’s not that our treasure is ungrateful, causing you so much trouble without visiting you. It’s because I locked him up; he knows nothing. Goodbye, gentlemen.”
The man’s tall figure vanished.
Jiang tilted his head, leaning against the table, and looked at Meng Loudi seriously. “Are all you noble gentlemen a bit crazy?”
Mr. Ghost pondered, “Perhaps?”
Jiang was helpless. He couldn’t outwit Meng Loudi, who was shameless and relentless.
Jiang had no choice but to remain tethered to him, taken wherever he went.
By October, after being a decorative piece for over a month, Jiang finally couldn’t take it anymore!
“I don’t care! I’m not going! I want to sleep! Who wants to attend those weird galas with you?” Jiang erupted, sitting on the bed and playfully punching Meng Jiang.
Meng Jiang pitifully lay in his father’s arms, enduring the gentle punches that seemed fierce.
Tonight, Meng Loudi was to represent Ba Lin at a charity auction, and he wanted Jiang Chenyi to accompany him.
Mr. Ghost, dressed sharply in a suit, stood before the dressing mirror. “No, you must come with me, or I’ll have to bring a female companion.”
The gentleman rogue.
How dare he threaten him?
Jiang rolled his eyes, his clothes disheveled, with two red marks on his neck.
“No, I said no. Today, I’m staying with Meng Jiang!”
He couldn’t let their Meng Jiang become a stay-at-home kid!
Mr. Ghost looked at him, smiling, “No, I don’t want that either. If you keep saying such things, I’ll send Meng Jiang away, oh, and the bird too.”
Both were quite bothersome, always vying for Jiang Chenyi’s attention.
He’d long wanted to deal with them.
Life wasn’t easy, Jiang sighed.
Jiang lazily collapsed onto the bed, looking at the dog man, “You weren’t like this before.”
“What was I like then?” Mr. Ghost fastened his tie.
Jiang really started to reminisce, “Our Loudi used to be gentle and obedient, never forcing me to do anything.”
“That’s because I didn’t hold the economic power,” Meng Loudi said with a mischievous smile, “Now, Chenyi, I want to be a domineering president.”
A domineering president?
Jiang burst into laughter, pounding the bed with genuine force this time.
Meng Jiang watched his suddenly hysterical dad, tongue lolling out in confusion.
The young man was thoroughly amused.
Meng Loudi’s face darkened. What was wrong? Couldn’t he be a domineering president?
Mr. Ghost strode over.
Meng Jiang, seeing his father approach with such intensity, whimpered, tucked his tail, and jumped off the bed to escape.
Jiang was still laughing on the bed when he was suddenly pinned down.
Jiang: “…I was wrong.”
Mr. Ghost pulled off his tie and expertly bound Jiang’s hands.
Jiang felt a sense of déjà vu, so familiar it made his heart race with fear.
Meng Loudi leaned over him, whispering eerily in his ear, “Laugh, Chenyi, why aren’t you laughing now?”
Then, Jiang Chenyi: “Hahaha! I can’t help it, I still want to laugh, hahaha.”
Mr. Ghost’s dignity was shattered, feeling utterly humiliated.
In a fit of embarrassment and anger, Mr. Ghost bit his lover’s neck, successfully stifling his laughter.
Jiang Chenyi really felt things weren’t going well.
“Wait, husband, Meng Loudi! You have to go to work, ahhh!”
“I can take a leave, how about the whole morning?” Mr. Ghost slowly caressed Jiang’s skin.
So adorable.
Jiang Chenyi surrendered, admitting defeat, “No way, as the chairman, husband, you need to be responsible, fulfill your duties for Ba Lin.”
Mr. Ghost replied leisurely, “It’s not necessary, with or without me, things will be fine. If it weren’t for Chenyi constantly urging me, I wouldn’t even bother going to work.”
Who would want to work when they could laze around at home?
Besides, he was supposed to be just a mascot, but his lover had pushed him to become something great.
Handling company affairs now came naturally to him.
“Oh dear, Mr. Ghost seems a bit unmotivated,” Jiang said with a playful smile, feeling the other’s affectionate touch as he turned his face slightly. “This won’t do. We have a long journey ahead, and if you keep sticking to me like this, won’t you get tired of it?”
Mr. Ghost’s fingers paused for a moment. After some thought, he replied, “Actually, I’m quite motivated right now. Besides, every day with Chenyi is filled with joy and passes by so quickly, there’s no chance of getting tired.”
This was true. Every moment spent with Jiang Chenyi seemed to fly by for him, and he wanted to make up for that rapid passage of time by making them both happier.
Jiang felt a silent wave of emotion; Mr. Ghost was truly heartwarming.
However.
“Shouldn’t you be heading to work now?” the young man raised an eyebrow.
Meng Loudi pretended not to hear, mumbling, “What are you talking about? I already said I’m very motivated.”
Jiang blushed slightly, letting him be.
They carried on until noon, and Jiang had already fallen into a deep sleep.
Mr. Ghost, satisfied and content, carried him to the bathroom for a thorough cleaning.
He was utterly smitten.
After helping his beloved clean up, he tucked him back into bed, admiring Jiang Chenyi’s rosy lips and fair complexion.
Mr. Ghost reached out and gently tapped his lips, humming, “So cute.”
As for Jiang Chenyi’s earlier teasing, what was that?
Still adorable.
Mr. Ghost happily went downstairs.
Meng Jiang’s intelligence was rapidly improving, and with the little sparrow’s support, he seemed to be getting the hang of taking care of himself.
He could even pour his own dog food.
The black dog noticed someone coming down and observed the gentle aura surrounding him. It seemed like Father was in a good mood.
Meng Jiang wagged his tail happily and nuzzled against Mr. Ghost’s leg.
Mr. Ghost patted his head, feeling pleased. “Good boy.”
Then he went to prepare a loving brunch for Jiang Chenyi.
He made seafood congee with finely chopped octopus, fish, and fresh shrimp. He retrieved the boiled eggs from the pot, separated the yolks, and chopped the whites.
Jiang Chenyi liked to eat the yolks on their own.
He chopped some green onions, rinsed the rice, prepared the pot, and added the ingredients, giving it a stir.
Then he let it simmer on low heat.
After completing all this, Mr. Ghost went upstairs to check on Jiang Chenyi, watching him nestled in the blankets, his cheeks flushed in sleep.
