Good Night, Mr. Ghost - Chapter 70
After finishing the noodles, Jiang rested his chin on his hand, his gaze wandering, and suddenly burst into laughter.
“Really, is it just the street food stalls you like? Oh dear, I’ve managed to bring a touch of the mundane to your princely existence.”
Mr. Ghost, who should be accustomed to luxury, now mingled with him, losing that lofty demeanor that once looked down on the world.
But as long as they’re both happy, that’s all that matters.
Jiang lazily washed the bowls, let Meng Jiang out, and sat on the sofa to doodle.
The afternoon sun at two o’clock was somewhat dazzling, casting mottled shadows on the floor through the glass window.
Jiang, feeling drowsy, stared at his drawing tablet, sketching absentmindedly.
Lately, he felt so sleepy.
If he slept any more, would he resemble a pig?
Suddenly, a barking sound came from outside, different from the usual excited yaps-more fierce, more urgent, as if facing an enemy.
Jiang paused, looked out the window, but saw nothing.
He put on his shoes and hurried outside.
He wasn’t worried about anything else, just concerned that Meng Jiang might bite someone.
Though Meng Jiang probably wouldn’t do such a thing, who could say for sure?
Jiang Chenyi opened the door, and the yard seemed devoid of any abnormalities.
But the black dog was there, guarding the entrance, barking madly.
“Meng Jiang?”
“Woof woof woof! Awooo-woof woof woof!” The black dog crouched low, adopting an aggressive stance Jiang had never seen before.
Jiang Chenyi sensed something was amiss.
Outside, he couldn’t even feel the wind, as if the world had come to a standstill.
For the first time, he felt his heart racing.
Driven by fear and the unknown.
“Meng Jiang! Come here!” he called.
But the black dog refused to turn away, steadfastly guarding the door.
Jiang instinctively reached for his phone; no matter what, the situation was strange, and he needed to contact someone.
Meng Jiang bared his teeth, intimidating the unseen presence.
Jiang pressed the call button, but after ringing once, it automatically disconnected.
“What?!”
“Awooo-woof woof woof!” Meng Jiang’s fur bristled.
Suddenly, in front of the previously empty door, a hand appeared-slender and pale-gently pushing open the one-meter-high door, revealing the entire figure.
A woman with black hair tied at the back, wearing an unusual robe, stepped into the territory of the eighth chief of the Alliance of Supernatural Beings.
“Luo Yun?!” Jiang was incredulous.
This person had been missing for three months; how could she suddenly appear here?!
Luo Yun dragged a long sword, leaving deep scratches on the ground.
A few strands of hair fell across her forehead as she raised her eyes to look at Jiang Chenyi.
Compared to three months ago, Luo Yun appeared more haggard, emaciated, with protruding cheekbones, looking unnaturally gaunt.
Her eyes were bloodshot, and for a moment, Jiang Chenyi almost mistook them for being red.
“Meng Jiang! Come here!” This time, his call worked, and the black dog retreated a couple of steps, swiftly running to Jiang, stopping in front of him, once again adopting a fierce posture, seemingly intimidating the newcomer.
Seeing a person, Jiang’s heart settled a bit.
“What do you want?” he crouched down, trying to soothe Meng Jiang’s nerves, his voice calm and steady.
Luo Yun tilted her head, her entire aura dark and brooding.
“What do I want? Jiang Chenyi, just tell me where my Hui is, and I’ll let you go,” she said, her eyes dark and intense as they fixed on Jiang Chenyi. “Otherwise, I don’t know what I might do.”
“I’ve told you, I don’t know. It’s been almost two years since I last saw Luo Hui,” Jiang Chenyi replied calmly.
He truly didn’t know, knew nothing at all.
He couldn’t let Luo Yun find out where Luo Hui was.
Why?
Probably because Luo Hui’s eyes back then were filled with such despair.
Luo Yun’s body trembled slightly, she lowered her head and suddenly laughed, “Haha, haha, you don’t know, you don’t know! How dare you not know?!”
She looked at the young man, her eyes filled with deep-seated hatred, raising the sword in her hand, her whole body trembling, “If you don’t know where Hui is, why would I come to you?!”
Her words lacked any logical connection.
“…Luo Yun, you’re crazy,” Jiang Chenyi said.
Luo Hui took a deep breath, “I am crazy. If I can’t find Hui, I won’t rest.”
“If you leave now, we won’t pursue this,” the young man said, looking confident, lazily stroking the dog’s back, his whole demeanor relaxed.
Meng Loudi wouldn’t leave his beloved alone at home, so there were at least a few supernatural beings nearby, and he had left some things behind.
If anything really happened, Mr. Ghost would be there in no time.
Luo Yun glanced around, softly saying, “Yes, that filthy thing cares about you. I really don’t know what you two are up to, choosing to be with a man instead of a good woman. Isn’t it disgusting?”
A mocking smile appeared on her face.
Jiang Chenyi’s lips tightened as he looked at her, scoffing, “If we’re disgusting, we’re disgusting to ourselves. We haven’t flaunted it in front of you, so why be so vicious?
Or is it that the trash who can’t find happiness can only get a bit of comfort by belittling others?”
Hate it, hate it, really hate it.
Such a woman, truly repulsive.
Does their love bother her? Does she need to come and criticize?
The young man’s face showed clear disdain.
The woman looked at him and laughed.
“Didn’t expect that, a male prostitute with a sharp tongue. What? Feel your dignity is being attacked and can’t help but defend yourself?”
Her words were getting nastier.
Jiang frowned and said, “You better leave, Loudi will be back soon.”
“Soon? I haven’t done anything, and no one can warn him. It’s only a little past two, that ghost won’t be back until after five,” Luo Yun smiled.
There was something in that smile that made Jiang Chenyi’s heart race with fear.
He stood up abruptly, no longer petting the dog.
“What have you done?”
Meng Jiang’s body grew even more tense.
Luo Yun pulled out a jade pendant, swinging it in her hand, a smug smile on her face.
“I’ve been gone for three months, Jiang Chenyi. Aren’t you curious what I’ve been up to during that time?” She held the pendant aloft, the blood-red stone etched with ancient patterns, aligning momentarily with her left eye.
Her right eye carried a mocking glint.
Her face was like that of a malevolent spirit.
Dark and sinister.
“What do you think I am? Some brainless fool? Someone who acts hastily without any preparation?”
Jiang Chenyi swallowed hard, his hand resting on the door frame.
Luo Yun tilted her head, revealing a chilling smile.
“I spent two months finding this phoenix shackle jade. Though it’s not much use now, its aura is quite similar to that of your beloved ghostly companion.
And one more thing, this phoenix shackle jade can suppress supernatural beings within a certain range. The stronger they are, the harder it is for them to move. I bet those supernatural beings are lying on the ground, unable to budge.
So, we humans, and you, oh, and that dog, remain unaffected.
Hahaha, now you’re in my illusion, Jiang Chenyi. I call the shots here, at least for the next two hours.
Do you think that’s enough time for me to kill you? Bit by bit, kill you.
Hahaha, yes, I’m unhappy. I’m so miserable, I can’t stand seeing you two happy!
If that ghost returns to find your corpse, or rather, a shattered, unrecognizable corpse, do you think he’d go mad? Do you think he’d still be happy?”
Not just unhappy!
Meng Loudi would definitely lose his mind!
Jiang gritted his teeth, “You can’t do that!”
Luo Yun shook the pendant, the madness in her eyes seemingly subdued, “Why not?”
“…I’ll tell you where Luo Hui is,” Jiang Chenyi conceded.
He couldn’t risk Meng Loudi’s life for a mere acquaintance like the cat demon.
“Where is he?” Her eyes bore into him.
“With the Liu Family’s young master, Liu Juncai,” Jiang confessed.
Luo Yun froze, her face contorting, “What did you say?”
Jiang Chenyi watched her expression, sensing trouble, “I said, Luo Hui was taken by Liu Juncai.”
Luo Hui sighed deeply, picking up a sword, advancing step by step, “Seems like I need to teach you a lesson before you tell the truth.”
“I’m not lying!” Jiang Chenyi frowned.
She stared at him, a sinister smile on her face, “Truth? Don’t you know the Luo Family and Liu Family have been allies for a century? If Liu Juncai really took him, how could I not know?”
She was the genius of the Liu Family’s generation!
The elders of the family wouldn’t let anyone take her Hui!
Trouble was brewing.
Jiang was doomed.
Jiang Chenyi realized he was truly in deep trouble.
This lunatic was completely unhinged.
Luo Hui was already close.
Meng Jiang couldn’t stand it anymore, the threat was too strong, the palpable hostility aimed at the person behind him.
No, she couldn’t harm Dad.
He was the one who had given him his first warmth.
The black dog suddenly dashed forward, heading straight for the woman.
“Meng Jiang!” Jiang Chenyi exclaimed in shock. Meng Jiang was just an ordinary dog; how could it possibly stand a chance against that woman?
But it was too late.
The black dog had already reached the woman.
“Looking for death, are you?” Luo Yun tilted her head slightly and swung her sword at the black dog.
Meng Jiang quickly ducked down, and the sword’s tip left a shallow mark on its back, accompanied by a small spray of blood.
Using its momentum, the black dog lunged at the woman’s leg, tilting its head and biting down hard.
Luo Yun’s clothes were not ordinary garments.
Yet, under Meng Jiang’s full-force bite, she was injured. The wound wasn’t deep, but the sharp pain registered in her mind.
Luo Yun was momentarily stunned, then furious.
She lifted her foot and kicked the black dog away with a force that seemed beyond human capability.
Meng Jiang was sent flying over ten meters, rolling several times on the grass, letting out a pained howl.
“Aw-oo-”
Jiang Chenyi’s heart twisted in agony.
Luo Yun suddenly pushed off the ground and, in an instant, was in front of the young man. She flashed a terrifying smile, grabbed his collar, and effortlessly threw him aside.
As Jiang Chenyi hit the ground, his mind went blank.
What was happening now?
Luo Yun looked at the young man sprawled on the ground and mocked, “What’s wrong? Did you think I was just a woman? I’m much more than that.”
She possessed spiritual power, a force that set her above ordinary people.
Jiang Chenyi belatedly felt the pain in his back and was about to get up.
But Luo Yun approached, and without any courtesy, stomped on his ankle with a crunch.
Jiang Chenyi let out a short, sharp cry.
It hurt, it hurt, it hurt…
Oh, it hurt so much, the pain was enough to make him want to pass out.
