Good Night, Mr. Ghost - Chapter 68
The two chatted for a while longer, with Wu Yi showing a keen interest in how Jiang Chenyi and Meng Loudi first met. Jiang was happy to satisfy his curiosity.
As they talked, time slipped by, and soon it was half-past four.
Meng Jiang, having had his fill of fun, returned to Jiang’s side, nudging the young man’s leg with his head. Knowing his paws were dirty, he refrained from using them, behaving obediently.
Jiang Chenyi patted his ears and chuckled, “Alright, alright, let’s head back.”
If they left now, they could make it back to Ba Lin Building before Meng Loudi finished work.
Wu Yi tidied up his clothes and followed closely beside Jiang. After their conversation, Wu Yi seemed less reserved than when they first met.
The two walked out of the park, laughing and chatting, when suddenly, at the park’s entrance, a shadow appeared.
The figure was dressed in peculiar clothing, with long hair tied high, exuding a cool and disdainful aura. The face was strikingly familiar.
Jiang racked his brain and remembered.
Isn’t that Luo Yun?!
Luo Yun spotted Jiang Chenyi, her expression changing as she rushed forward, trying to grab his hand.
Wu Yi pulled Jiang back, while Meng Jiang stood protectively in front, baring his fangs. Despite the muzzle, the black dog managed to intimidate the woman.
She paused, her face paling, lips a ghostly white, her rough makeup unable to conceal the dark circles under her eyes.
Jiang soothed Meng Jiang and said, “I don’t know.”
Although Luo Hui had been taken away by Liu Juncai, who knew where he was now? Besides, Jiang had no intention of telling her. Something about this woman seemed obsessive.
“Don’t know?! How can you not know?!” Luo Yun’s eyes widened.
After being repelled by that ghostly creature, she had hurried back to the Luo Family to request reinforcements. But by the time she returned to the scene, everyone was gone.
She was reprimanded and confined at home, forbidden to leave. Half a year of isolation nearly drove her mad.
The family elders demanded she forget about Luo Hui, focus on her cultivation, and prepare to marry her betrothed. But the more they forbade her from searching, the deeper her longing for Luo Hui grew. Eventually, she felt that even when she closed her eyes, Luo Hui haunted her dreams.
Luo Hui, Luo Hui, Luo Hui…
The name echoed endlessly in her mind, their shared memories replaying over and over-those joyful, unforgettable moments.
Luo Yun wasn’t sure what Luo Hui meant to her, but she knew that if she couldn’t find him, she’d truly lose her mind.
Once released, she desperately tried to divine his whereabouts, but to no avail. She wandered the world like a lost soul, seemingly without a place to belong.
Unexpectedly, by sheer chance, she encountered the very person from that fateful day!
He must know where Luo Hui is!
The woman clenched her fists and said, “Don’t lie to me! You must know where Luo Hui is!”
Jiang rolled his eyes. “I really don’t know. Luo Hui and I are just acquaintances.”
“You took Luo Hui away that day,” Luo Yun said through gritted teeth.
“That was because he asked us for help. To avoid trouble, we took him away. Later, he said goodbye to us and we haven’t been in contact since,” Jiang Chenyi replied, mixing truth with lies.
It was a statement hard to decipher.
Luo Yun looked at the young man’s expression, feeling a surge of resentment: Pretending to be innocent, huh!
“I don’t believe you! You definitely know!” The woman drew a long sword, its blade gleaming coldly, clearly not a toy.
She pressed on, “If you don’t tell me, you’re not leaving today!”
Luo Yun’s eyes were bloodshot, her aura wild and intimidating.
Jiang Chenyi’s expression gradually turned indifferent. He looked at her, his pale pink lips parting.
“What are you doing? Drawing a weapon in public? Are you crazy?”
His voice remained gentle but carried an undeniable firmness.
He pushed aside the crow spirit protecting him and walked straight towards Luo Yun, reaching out to grab her wrist.
A man’s strength is generally greater than a woman’s.
Moreover, Luo Yun hadn’t expected him to make a move, momentarily stunned.
Jiang Chenyi grasped her wrist, forcing her to release the sword hilt.
He leaned closer to her and said, “Luo Yun, what do you want? Let me be clear, I don’t know where Luo Hui went, nor do I know what happened between you two. As someone from Daoism, you should know that a new chief of the supernatural beings has been appointed. Right here.”
He curled his lips into a somewhat smug smile, his eyes mocking.
“Do you dare to make a move here?”
Luo Yun bit her lip, a thin trickle of blood appearing on her cracked lips.
“You!”
She shook off the young man’s hand, stepped back two paces, and extended her hand, the long sword on the ground returning to her grip.
The woman raised the sword, pointing it at Jiang Chenyi, and said, “You’ll pay for what you’ve done!”
“Ha, suit yourself.” Jiang shrugged, completely unconcerned.
Luo Yun glanced at the demon behind him, snorted, and left with a flick of her sleeve.
Wu Yi watched the young man who had just exuded such dominance, stars practically shining in his eyes.
The chief’s wife, could he really be this assertive?!
So cool!
Jiang turned to him, flashing a big grin. “Hehe, are you okay?”
“I’m fine, Young Master Jiang, you were amazing just now!”
“You’re exaggerating.” The young man crouched down, petting Meng Jiang, who was wagging its tail. “What? Were you impressed by your dad’s heroic display?”
“Woof woof!” The big dog tried to lick his face but couldn’t reach through the muzzle.
Jiang Chenyi grabbed the leash, glanced at the time. “Ah, Wu Yi, we need to hurry back!”
Time’s running out!
A man, a demon, and a dog dashed towards the Ba Lin Building.
They stopped at red lights, sprinted when they could, repeating this cycle several times until they finally reached the mall.
Wu Yi was fine, not a drop of sweat on him.
Jiang Chenyi was panting heavily, sweat trickling down his body. He wiped his forehead.
They stood on the escalator, slowly moving upwards.
The phone rang, and Jiang answered.
“Hey, is that Chenyi?” a husky male voice asked.
Jiang took a breath, “Yeah, yeah, we’re on our way up!”
“What were you up to? I finally finished my work, and Chenyi wasn’t around. I’m so sad,” Meng Loudi’s voice sounded pitiful.
“Don’t be pitiful,” Jiang replied with a cold face.
He spoiled this dog man too much, making him think that as long as he acted pitiful and coquettish, Jiang would do whatever he wanted!
Not a chance!
Jiang wasn’t a fool!
“Ah? Chenyi, are you rejecting me?” Mr. Ghost was relentless, his voice even more pitiful. “Could it be that Chenyi is tired of me? Found someone else?”
Jiang Chenyi: “…”
“Why aren’t you denying it?! Is it true then?! That’s too much!!!” The man’s voice carried disbelief, as if accusing Jiang Chenyi of being a playboy.
Jiang covered his face, “No, listen to me.”
“No, no, I don’t want to hear it. I hate you! Boohoo, is it because I’m not attractive anymore?” The man started to whimper.
Jiang: “…Meng Loudi, speak properly.”
Perhaps today, his Mr. Ghost took the wrong medicine…
Something felt off.
The man’s laughter came through the phone, “Haha, Chenyi is so fierce. Hurry up and come up, I can’t wait to go home with you.”
Mr. Ghost’s voice seemed to have a magical charm, enchanting Jiang Chenyi.
No, it was more like an obsession.
The young man’s lips curled up, “Alright.”
That was enough, being happy together.
Back in the lobby of Ba Lin Company, a young man in a black three-piece suit stood there, occasionally glancing at his watch.
He had the air of a wealthy heir.
Jiang released the dog leash, and Meng Jiang began to sprint, circling around Meng Loudi.
Acting all fawning.
Mr. Ghost bent down, patted the dog’s head, looked at Jiang, and smiled like a demon, “Went out to play?”
“Yeah.” Jiang nodded, walked to his side, and held his hand, “Are we going home now?”
“Of course.” Meng Loudi had no desire to work overtime, absolutely none.
Mr. Ghost looked at Wu Yi, “Thank you for your hard work.”
Wu Yi’s body began to tremble slightly, he shook his head, lowering it.
“No.” His voice was barely audible.
Meng Loudi didn’t mind, pulling the young man along, smiling as they entered the elevator.
“Where did Chenyi and Meng Jiang go today?” Meng Loudi asked gently.
Jiang grabbed the dog leash Meng Jiang handed over, wrapping it twice around his hand, “Just went to the nearby park, nowhere else.”
“Really? I’m sorry, I was too busy today, otherwise I would have gone out with you.” Mr. Ghost rubbed the young man’s shoulder, apologizing.
“No way, Mr. Ghost, remember, you need to work hard and live up to your ten thousand a month salary!” Jiang slightly tilted his head, the curve of his jaw incredibly enticing.
Mr. Ghost lowered his head, lifted his chin, leaving a kiss on his neck.
A cool kiss on the skin.
Jiang was stunned, feeling the other’s action, he laughed, “Mr. Ghost, do you want to bite?”
“I do.” Meng Loudi straightened up, his fingers wandering over that skin, where the young man’s pulse beat.
The young man grabbed his fingers, rolled his eyes, and said, “Don’t even think about it.”
If he really bit there, it would hurt like hell.
“Ah, what a pity.” Mr. Ghost sighed sincerely.
“Get lost!” Jiang Chenyi laughed and cursed, raising his fist to punch the other’s chest lightly.
