Good Night, Mr. Ghost - Chapter 63
Mr. Ghost had breakfast ready, and after they finished eating, Jiang picked up a small basket, lined it with his scarf, and placed Meng Jiang inside.
Meng Loudi felt a sense of foreboding. “Chenyi, what are you planning to do?”
“Take Meng Jiang with us, of course. It’s so small, we have to bring it along,” the young man replied matter-of-factly.
“I can have someone else take care of it,” Mr. Ghost said coldly.
He wasn’t keen on having a puppy take up most of Jiang Chenyi’s time. After all, it wasn’t their child!
Could it be that Chenyi was just overflowing with paternal instincts?
Jiang Chenyi rolled his eyes. “No way, we’re taking it today. We’ll figure out the rest later.”
“Alright.”
They got into the car, and Mr. Ghost glanced at the puppy, already asleep. “Chenyi, I cleaned up after it last night.”
Jiang was momentarily surprised but understood.
Meng Loudi looked at his partner and whispered, “We can’t keep doing that for it, can we?”
“Puppies can be taught,” Jiang said, stroking Meng Jiang.
“But its leg isn’t healed yet, right? It can only crawl on the ground,” Mr. Ghost pointed out, suggesting, “Maybe we should find someone to help take care of it.”
Jiang Chenyi imagined his handsome ghostly partner cleaning up after the puppy.
No, no, no! Absolutely not.
Just the thought made him feel guilty.
How could he let Mr. Ghost do such a thing?
But if he had to do it himself…
Jiang felt it wasn’t feasible.
So, he looked at Mr. Ghost and nodded, “Alright!”
They would temporarily entrust this little troublemaker to someone else.
With Jiang’s permission, Meng Loudi quickly started typing a message.
Thus, Mr. Bai, who was getting ready for work, received a message from his boss.
Staring at his phone screen, Bai Lu felt the world was surreal.
Brownish, fixing her hair, noticed her husband standing there in a daze and asked, “What’s up? Why the face?”
“I think, maybe, something unexpected happened,” Bai Lu murmured.
Why would Meng Loudi ask him to find a supernatural being to care for an injured young creature?
Could it be that Mr. Jiang had taken in something?
Is that even possible?
Wouldn’t Mr. Chief crush it in the cradle?
But Bai Lu did it anyway.
Jiang handed Meng Jiang to a rough-looking man, who was a dog demon reputed to be excellent at caring for young creatures.
The young man, teary-eyed, clasped the man’s hand and implored, “Really, please take care of Meng Jiang!”
Hei Ji, the dog demon, bashfully scratched his ear and smiled shyly, “Of course, trust me, madam. I’ll take good care of young master Meng Jiang!”
Even though calling a puppy “young master” seemed odd, and Jiang Chenyi certainly couldn’t have fathered a native dog, given the surnames of the two esteemed figures, it should at least be considered a beloved pet.
There was a high chance it would become a demon in the future, so calling it young master wasn’t entirely off.
Jiang didn’t find anything amiss and gratefully saw Hei Ji off, breathing a sigh of relief.
Heaven knows, he was really terrified of Meng Jiang making a mess; he simply couldn’t handle it.
Mr. Ghost watched his reluctant lover, resting his chin on his hand, lost in thought.
So, are they really going to raise a dog like a son?
Jiang Chenyi walked over to him, wrapping his arms around his neck. “What’s wrong? Are you sad about sending Meng Jiang away?”
“I’m just wondering if I need a puppy to inherit my legacy,” Mr. Ghost replied, his expression serious.
Jiang chuckled, “What are you thinking? Even if we call it that, the chances of treating it like a son are pretty low, right? How about we adopt a child in the future?”
“No, a dog is my limit,” Meng Loudi refused.
Raising a dog, at least, wouldn’t complain or play tricks on him. If they had a child, it would be fine if the child took after Chenyi, but if it took after him, it would be a troublesome burden.
Jiang snuggled against his neck, “Hmm, Meng Jiang is cute, right? You like him too, right, husband?”
“That’s only because of you,” Mr. Ghost explained.
The young man kissed his cheek, “That’s fine too.”
With soft light in his brown eyes, Jiang said, “Mr. Ghost is becoming more and more gentle.”
Meng Loudi looked at the documents on his desk and thought, indeed.
His gentleness used to be reserved for Jiang Chenyi, but now it’s different.
He could be a bit gentler with others too.
All of this was because of Chenyi’s efforts to change him.
“I love you, Chenyi,” Mr. Ghost said, looking at him with deep affection in his dark eyes.
Jiang Chenyi smiled and leaned in to kiss him.
Meng Loudi enjoyed his lover’s affectionate kiss.
Jiang Chenyi had the intuition of a small animal.
He always knew how to act appropriately.
But only with him.
With strangers, Jiang Chenyi was like a hedgehog, raising his little spikes, showing a harmless exterior but always wary of the outside world. Yet with him, he was willing to show his soft belly, offering gentleness.
Cautious and careful, but with him, it was different, special.
Loved him to death.
Jiang Chenyi, like a hedgehog.
Their days were sweet and blissful.
Soon, the real New Year arrived.
Ba Lin Building was on holiday.
Meng Jiang had grown into a healthy little puppy.
At over two months old, it could run and eat. Hei Ji took care of it for half a month, teaching Meng Jiang to use the toilet.
Thus, Meng Loudi’s yard became Meng Jiang’s natural restroom.
It was now ten o’clock at night.
It was also the Spring Festival.
Meng Loudi and Jiang Chenyi were in the kitchen making dumplings.
Meng Jiang had grown quite a bit, now about the size of two palms. It lay at the kitchen door, chewing on its silicone teething bone, watching the two tall figures with its dark little eyes.
It had been living with these two for a month.
It clearly understood that these two were its “family.”
There was one with a warm aura who would gently pet it, prepare its meals, and speak softly.
The taller one had a cold aura, sometimes casting dangerous glances, but at night, when it wanted to go out to the toilet or was hungry, it only needed to call, and he would appear promptly.
Howl, Meng Jiang was a happy little pup.
Thinking about this made Meng Jiang very happy.
It bounced around, shaking its toy, and when the toy fell, it let out a soft yet angry bark, looking like a little mad dog.
Jiang Chenyi was wrapping shrimp dumplings, watching the little puppy entertaining itself, and couldn’t help but laugh.
Meng Loudi was also making dumplings, and his were beautifully shaped, with petal-like edges and plump, round bellies.
Very exquisite, just like him.
Jiang’s dumplings were just ordinary, not particularly pretty, but not ugly either.
“Your parents will be here soon, Chenyi,” Mr. Ghost said, trying to make conversation.
“Yeah, I know. They mentioned it to me the other day,” Jiang replied, turning his gaze to Mr. Ghost.
Meng Loudi looked good in anything, and even in pajamas, he was captivating.
“Are these dumplings enough?” Jiang asked, looking at the seventy or eighty dumplings. “I feel like we’ve made too many.”
This was their first time spending the New Year outside their community.
In the past, they would make dumplings and share any extras with neighbors, but now it was different.
Mr. Ghost glanced at the dumplings. “No worries, if we can’t finish them, I’ll just share them with others. We’ve got plenty outside, don’t we?”
Jiang instinctively looked towards the kitchen window, and sure enough, there were several odd faces peering in.
There were cats, shadows, and even a plump little sparrow.
The young man sighed and smiled, “Honestly, what can we do with them?”
He washed his hands and looked at Mr. Ghost, “It’s New Year, let’s make an exception today.”
“They have places to go; they’re just looking for trouble,” Mr. Ghost said coldly.
Those supernatural beings were simply curious about the daily life of the chief and his wife, which is why they were always spying on them.
But some of them truly had nowhere else to go.
“Just this once. We’ll give them some dumplings and let them sleep on the first floor. We’ll send them off in the morning,” Jiang Chenyi said, looking at his partner, trying to exude a pleading aura.
Meng Loudi turned to look at the eager supernatural beings outside and sighed, “Just this once.”
“Alright!” Jiang happily ran out and opened the door. “If you want dumplings, come on in!”
Mr. Ghost watched his beloved.
Jiang Chenyi was indeed a peculiar person.
He used to dislike crowds, but now he seemed to enjoy it a bit.
Mr. Ghost licked the flour off his hand, savoring the strange taste.
As Jiang Chenyi changed him, he was also changing Jiang Chenyi.
The little pitiful ones outside, having received the chief’s wife’s invitation, cautiously and joyfully entered, huddling together in the lobby, not daring to move a step further.
The little sparrow puffed out its chubby chest, looking around the room, and boasted, “I can brag about this for a year! I actually got into the chief’s house, chirp chirp!”
The cat demon pulled out a phone from its little cloth bag, deftly manipulating it with its paws, and sneakily took a picture of the two busy in the kitchen, then put it away naturally.
Looking at the little fat bird with a haughty expression, it said, “Ha, what an achievement.”
Sleeping in the chief’s house on New Year’s Day, it could boast about it for three years!
The supernatural beings chattered softly among themselves.
Meng Jiang, seeing these strange creatures, felt a great threat, and bared its little white teeth, letting out a furious growl.
“Woof woof-woof!” It was a soft bark, not even catching their attention.
The little puppy dragged its favorite toy and squatted at the door.
It would protect its dads! Absolutely!
The tiny bundle sat at the door, looking even smaller, its black eyes shining, fur glossy and dark, with four snow-white paws, its little tail wagging, occasionally turning back to make sure both people were within its protective range.
Proud!
Meng Jiang was the best!
