Good Night, Mr. Ghost - Chapter 62
Jiang nodded, feeling a bit heavy-hearted as he sat on a bench in the hospital. Mr. Ghost was beside him, gently patting the young man’s head. Jiang looked at him, puffing his cheeks in frustration, “What were those people thinking? It’s so cold outside, hardly anyone around, and they just leave these little creatures out there!”
Mr. Ghost comforted him, “Maybe they had no choice. When they don’t want them anymore, they just abandon them.”
Often, that’s how it is-discarded when unwanted, left to fend for themselves.
Jiang Chenyi sighed, “I understand, but still, spaying and neutering is important. Otherwise, it’s such a hassle.”
Mr. Ghost sensed something was about to happen. Then Jiang turned to him, “Loudi, Loudi, if this puppy survives, let’s keep it!”
The young man’s eyes sparkled with sincerity, clearly not joking. Meng Loudi stiffened, turning away, “I don’t want to.”
He had no desire to keep anything that would steal Chenyi’s attention.
Jiang clung to his arm, trying to coax him, “Mr. Ghost-please, let’s keep it~” The young man leaned closer, whispering sweetly.
Meng Loudi’s heart skipped a beat. This was the first time Jiang had tried to charm him outside of bed.
Mr. Ghost pushed the young man’s face away, “Stop trying to charm me.”
No way he would agree, not even with coaxing.
“Ah-please, Loudi, Loudi, let’s keep it.” Jiang unleashed his full charm offensive.
But Mr. Ghost was resolute, absolutely refusing to keep such things.
Jiang thought for a moment, changing tactics. He leaned close to Mr. Ghost’s ear, whispering, “Honey, darling, please.”
He tried every endearing term he could think of. Surely he could sway this dog-like man!
He wanted a dog, what’s wrong with that!
Mr. Ghost’s face turned crimson, covering his face as he looked at the bright-eyed young man, “Say it again.”
Seeing a chance, Jiang hugged his neck, whispering sweetly into Mr. Ghost’s ear, “Darling~”
“Honey~”
His voice was so sultry even Jiang himself felt a bit overwhelmed. Truly, human potential is limitless.
To keep a puppy, Jiang was willing to go all out.
Mr. Ghost bit his lip, weighing his options. If he refused Chenyi now, Chenyi would surely be upset and sulk. But he wouldn’t stay mad for long, a little coaxing would fix it.
However, if he reluctantly agreed, Chenyi would be happy, and he could use the opportunity to make some requests.
Not too unreasonable, right?
Mr. Ghost smiled inwardly, though outwardly he remained the elegant gentleman, blushing as he looked at his beloved, pretending to be reluctant but willing to compromise for him.
“Alright, you can keep it.” Mr. Ghost blushed, his pale skin looking lovely.
Jiang beamed, showing a bright smile, “Thank you, honey~”
Indeed, a charming man leads a good life.
Mr. Ghost glanced inside the hospital, thinking: If only that puppy had died, all problems would be solved.
No issues at all.
But Meng Loudi’s hopes were dashed. The doctor emerged, holding the puppy with cloudy eyes, relieved, “It’s quite lucky, it pulled through, but its limbs are frostbitten and it may not walk for a while. It needs good care. We’ve fed it formula, so it won’t be hungry for now.”
Jiang Chenyi’s eyes lit up with joy, a color of happiness.
Mr. Ghost watched his beloved’s reaction. Why didn’t he use some trick to end the puppy’s life earlier?
Perhaps he didn’t want to see disappointment on Jiang Chenyi’s face.
This was good enough.
Then Mr. Ghost’s good mood vanished as Jiang gently cradled the little native dog. It was like a hard block of ice shattered by a hammer.
Jiang Chenyi cradled the whining puppy, his heart melting into a puddle.
The female doctor smiled warmly at the young man, “It’s not even a month old, probably a mix of breeds. If you need anything, you can check here, and I can make a dietary plan for it.”
Jiang Chenyi nodded, looking at the warm puppy, “Please do. Can you prepare the things it will need?”
Meng Loudi knew pet supplies weren’t cheap, so he added, “Get the best, money’s not an issue.”
The doctor hesitated but nodded, smiling at the puppy. It was truly a lucky pup, surviving the cold and finding a home.
“Alright, I’ll give you a list, and you can pick things from over there.” She handed over a flyer from the counter, “This lists what dogs need.”
Jiang took it, “Thank you.”
Mr. Ghost eyed the sniffing little creature with disdain.
The puppy seemed oblivious, clumsily burrowing in the scarf.
Jiang Chenyi pinched its little tail, touched its tiny pink paw pads, smiling, “Honey, isn’t it adorable?”
Meng Loudi blushed, “It’s alright.”
If bringing this little ugly creature home meant hearing those terms of endearment, it was worth it.
“Let’s name it.”
The young man eagerly looked at Mr. Ghost, “You’re the dad, I’m the dad too. To be fair, let’s call it ‘Meng Jiang’, how about that?”
“Pfft, like Meng Jiangnu weeping at the Great Wall1?” Mr. Ghost teased.
Jiang: “…”
He gently flipped the puppy over, confirming it was a little male dog, then flipped it back.
“It’s ‘Meng Jiang’!” Jiang insisted.
What’s wrong with naming it ‘Meng Jiang’!
“Alright.” Mr. Ghost didn’t mind, it’s just a name.
Wait?! Something felt off.
Did they just get a dog son?
But seeing the young man’s smile, Mr. Ghost couldn’t muster a single word of objection.
On the last day of the year, little Meng Jiang the native dog successfully infiltrated the eighth chief’s household, becoming the chief’s wife’s precious little darling.
That night, Mr. Ghost watched the puppy whining in its dog bed, his face darkening.
If it kept whining, Chenyi would wake up!
Jiang had moved the dog bed to the bedroom upstairs to care for the little survivor, but the puppy wouldn’t sleep, whining incessantly!
Mr. Ghost moved it out to avoid disturbing Chenyi.
His cold fingers poked the native dog, finding it increasingly ugly.
But the texture was nice, soft and squishy.
Meng Jiang whimpered pitifully.
Meng Loudi thought, maybe it was hungry.
So he made formula for the puppy, fed it, and went upstairs to sleep. Three hours later, Meng Jiang, hungry again, whimpered and barked weakly.
Though faint, it had the spirit of a dog.
Mr. Ghost fed the increasingly pitiful puppy, his face darkening.
Ah, he should have thrown it out.
So from the start, Meng Jiang tested the limits of his father’s patience.
But what could a clueless little puppy know?
When Jiang woke up, he found both his man and his dog missing.
Donning his pajamas, he rubbed his messy hair, standing on the second floor, looking at the two downstairs.
Meng Jiang wiggled beside Mr. Ghost, its tiny paws pawing at his pants, looking much more lively.
Mr. Ghost frowned, making formula.
Jiang smiled, leisurely descending, leaning on the sofa back.
Mr. Ghost’s expression remained unchanged, but his ears were a bit red.
“Honey~ up so early, feeding Meng Jiang.” Since yesterday, after uttering all those random terms, Jiang felt his dignity had left him.
And Mr. Ghost seemed to like it.
He’d indulge him!
Mr. Ghost set down the bottle, turned, and planted a kiss on the young man’s lips, “Mm.”
He admitted it so openly, Jiang was taken aback, pinching his chin to deepen the kiss.
After their morning kiss, Jiang wiped his lips, eyes filled with allure, “Indeed, saying no, but your body is quite honest~”
He stretched his hand, grabbing the little puppy, moving to the sofa to feed it.
Meng Jiang sucked on the bottle, whining softly as it drank.
Mr. Ghost gazed at Jiang Chenyi with tender affection.
Looking at them, they truly resembled a family of three.
Footnote:
- Meng Jiangnu Weeping at the Great Wall(孟姜女哭长城):Meng Jiangnu weeping at the Great Wall is a famous Chinese folktale about a woman named Meng Jiangnu. Her grief over the death of her husband, who died during the construction of the Great Wall, was so powerful that it caused the wall to collapse. In this context, the name “Meng Jiang” for the puppy humorously evokes the folktale, adding a playful connection to the story.
