From Dropout to Housemaid-The Upper Crust's Favorite - Chapter 7 - The Employer
Aisheng Housekeeping Company, a subsidiary of ZTE Steward Group, operates as a large-scale chain and is considered one of the top housekeeping companies in Hai City.
The company receives numerous inquiries daily.
While more young people are entering the housekeeping profession nowadays, few possess qualifications as outstanding as Jiang Xianyu’s.
As soon as her profile was posted, Yang received a flood of inquiry calls.
After carefully screening the candidates, Yang selected a family of three for Jiang Xianyu to interview with.
The family consisted of a father who was a corporate executive, a mother who worked as a doctor, and their eight-year-old child.
The job responsibilities included preparing three meals a day, escorting the child to and from school, and general cleaning and tidying.
Though the tasks were numerous, the pay was generous-15,000 yuan per month.
The father particularly valued Jiang Xianyu’s high educational background and fluency in English.
This was his exact statement.
The mother, on the other hand, preferred someone younger. As a doctor, she believed younger individuals were more meticulous compared to older ones.
She had mentioned to Yang that their previous housemaid often clashed with them due to differing living habits.
Yang felt this family would be a good match for Jiang Xianyu, so she arranged an interview at their home.
On Saturday morning, Jiang Xianyu tidied herself up simply, opting for a fresh, makeup-free look. Her fair complexion and clean appearance exuded a sense of neatness and professionalism.
The family lived on the tenth floor of a high-rise building.
After ringing the doorbell, the door was soon opened by the female employer.
The woman appeared surprised upon seeing Jiang Xianyu and hesitantly asked, “Are you Miss Jiang, here to apply for the live-in housemaid position?”
“Hello, my name is Jiang Xianyu. Yes, I’m here to apply for the housemaid role.”
It really was her!
The female employer quickly masked her surprise and invited Jiang Xianyu inside.
Jiang Xianyu instinctively took out a pair of shoe covers and slipped them on.
The female employer took the opportunity to observe her nails and hair, noting how well-groomed and clean they were. This left a favorable impression.
In the living room, the male employer and their child were already waiting.
Jiang Xianyu greeted them one by one.
The male employer couldn’t help but show a flicker of admiration in his eyes upon seeing her.
Despite her lack of makeup or elaborate styling, Jiang Xianyu’s natural beauty shone through, her fresh appearance carrying a charm that was both understated and captivating.
As they began talking, the male employer quickly discovered that Jiang Xianyu was articulate and poised. He tested her English skills, and she responded effortlessly, impressing him further.
Unintentionally, he ended up engaging her in an extended conversation.
Jiang Xianyu, however, felt slightly awkward. She tried several times to redirect the conversation to the female employer, asking about specific job requirements and preferences, but the male employer kept interjecting.
She noticed the female employer’s expression gradually darkening.
A sinking feeling settled in her chest-this wasn’t going well.
Sure enough, the female employer eventually spoke up, “Miss Jiang, we’ve learned everything we need to know about you. Let’s leave it here for today. We’ll discuss further and contact your company directly.”
Jiang Xianyu nodded, refraining from saying more. “Alright, I’ll wait for your notification then.”
As she stepped out of the apartment and entered the elevator, Jiang Xianyu let out a slow breath. She knew this interview was likely a lost cause.
The male employer had been overly enthusiastic, and given the live-in nature of the position, the female employer was unlikely to feel comfortable hiring her.
If they were genuinely considering her, they would have at least asked her to demonstrate her cooking skills during the interview.
Sure enough, shortly after Jiang Xianyu left, the couple began discussing with visible dissatisfaction.
When Jiang Xianyu returned home, Yang’s call came through. “Xiao Jiang, the family from the last interview decided not to proceed, but don’t lose heart. There are plenty of inquiries about you, and I’ll arrange another opportunity soon.”
Jiang Xianyu wasn’t discouraged. She had encountered similar situations before and knew there was no point in dwelling on it. Eventually, she’d find a match that suited her.
True to Yang’s word, within two days, she had lined up another family for Jiang Xianyu.
This time, it was just an elderly couple-simple household dynamics, but with a generous offer.
Jiang Xianyu met with Yang to learn more. Yang, brimming with excitement, said, “Xiao Jiang, I promise you, this one’s a great gig.”
“There’s just one thing: this family isn’t looking for a long-term housemaid. They only need someone for two months.”
“Their regular housemaid had to take time off because her husband was in a car accident and needs care at the hospital. So, they’re looking for a temporary replacement.”
“But don’t worry, this family is very generous. They’re offering you the same pay as their regular housemaid-20,000 yuan a month.”
Jiang Xianyu couldn’t help but be impressed by the offer.
Yang continued, “The elderly couple, though advanced in age, are in good health. Your main tasks will be cooking and tidying up.”
“They live in a top-tier villa community, and the house is quite spacious. But don’t stress about cleaning; as long as you keep things presentable day-to-day, it’s fine. They have staff from the villa community come in weekly for deep cleaning.”
Jiang Xianyu felt relieved.
The mention of a top-tier villa community had initially made her worry about the workload, but now she felt reassured.
After confirming the interview time, Jiang Xianyu returned home to prepare.
The next day, she set out for the interview once again.
As she stepped through the gates of Peach Blossom Source, having registered her entry, a stream of names flashed through her mind-names of people who lived here.
These were individuals she’d come across in her previous work, many of them heads of publicly listed companies.
Back when she had just been promoted to VP, she hadn’t yet reached the level where she’d interact with such figures directly.
Naturally, these people wouldn’t know her either.
Still, she had heard of their names and reputations.
Among them was her prospective employer, Su Yunyou, also known as Mr. Su.
Su Yunyou was the chairman of Yunyou Group.
Though he was semi-retired, no one doubted his control over the company.
The Su Family was undoubtedly one of the top-tier families in Hai City.
The Su Family had sent their butler, Uncle Lu, to pick her up.
Today, Jiang Xianyu wore a practical outfit: a button-down shirt paired with jeans, her long hair tied into a neat bun. Aside from a simple bracelet, she kept her accessories minimal.
Butler Lu led the way, occasionally glancing at Jiang Xianyu out of the corner of his eye.
Seeing her walking with composure and focus, he was quietly impressed.
Her clean and fresh appearance earned her a few more points in his book.
The only question that remained was her cooking skills.
Butler Lu recalled how the young master had once suggested hiring a Michelin-starred chef for the elderly couple. While the gesture had been well-intentioned, the couple had firmly declined.
They simply didn’t care for extravagant plating or dishes with names they couldn’t pronounce.
The elderly couple had come from humble beginnings, building their success step by step. They preferred simple, home-cooked meals with the comforting aroma of a well-used kitchen. Aunt Li, their previous housekeeper, had done an excellent job catering to their tastes.
Butler Lu led Jiang Xianyu to the entrance hall and handed her a pair of brand-new slippers to change into.
In the living room, Mr. Su and Old Lady Su were seated on the sofa. Their eyes lit up when they saw Jiang Xianyu.
The young girl had a gentle and fair appearance, exuding an air of quiet intellect. Her demeanor seemed kind and approachable. Especially with that warm, smiling face-it was the kind of expression that naturally lifted people’s spirits.
Though she wasn’t particularly tall, there was an endearing quality about her that made her seem especially well-mannered.
Old Lady Su was the first to speak, her tone cheerful. “You must be Xiao Jiang. Come on, let’s get acquainted.”
Jiang Xianyu greeted them with a polite smile. “Hello, Mr. Su. Hello, Old Lady Su.”
Old Lady Su had a kind and approachable face. Her hair was streaked with white, left undyed, and the fine lines at the corners of her eyes only added to her natural charm. She looked warm and genuine, the kind of person who made you feel at ease.
Mr. Su, on the other hand, was tall and had a more stoic expression. His features were sharper, but his eyes held a gentle warmth. Dressed in comfortable loungewear, he carried himself with an understated authority-a demeanor befitting someone of his stature.
And indeed, he was a true heavyweight.
The Yunyou Group was now managed by his only son, Su Lixin, and its influence spanned across various industries. Calling the Su family a top-tier household was no exaggeration.
Mr. Su gestured for Jiang Xianyu to take a seat. “No need to call us Mr. and Old Lady. At our age, just call us Grandpa and Grandma. That’ll do.”
Jiang Xianyu nodded and adjusted her greeting. “Hello, Grandpa Su. Hello, Grandma Su.”
Grandma Su beamed and nodded approvingly. “Yes, just like that.”
What followed was a brief and pleasant conversation. Afterward, Butler Lu gave Jiang Xianyu a tour of the villa.
The property featured gardens both in the front and back. The rear garden, however, had been transformed by Old Lady Su into a vegetable patch.
As people age, they often find joy in simple pleasures like gardening.
The villa complex also boasted a picturesque artificial lake, a favorite spot for the elderly residents to fish. The lake was stocked with a variety of fish by the maintenance staff.
On either side of the stone-paved path leading to the lake, cherry blossom trees were planted. Butler Lu mentioned that in spring, the area became breathtakingly beautiful.
Jiang Xianyu felt a twinge of regret. Her job here would only last two months, which meant she wouldn’t get to see the cherry blossoms in bloom.
Not far from the lake stood several pavilions designed for enjoying the scenery.
Next to the pavilions was a spacious, open square where some of the elderly residents gathered to dance in the evenings. The square was far enough from the villas that the music wouldn’t disturb anyone.
As Jiang Xianyu took it all in, she couldn’t help but marvel at the simple joys that wealth could bring.
