- Chapter 63 - His Words Were Restrained and Subtle
Qian Dayong and He Liping’s eyes dimmed.
They had managed to earn some money, which might not be much by Hai City’s standards, but it was quite a sum back in their hometown. However, lacking education, they struggled to survive in the industry.
Jiang Xianyu, seeing their predicament, suggested, “Perhaps you could find someone else to consult for you.”
The couple thanked Jiang Xianyu, saying they’d consider it, and then took their leave.
They had thought about this before, but their company was more of a small workshop than a real business. Those with real skills wouldn’t be interested in their consultant fee, and they worried that those who would accept might not be competent enough.
They were content with their modest success, preferring to invest their earnings in small businesses rather than risk losing everything if their venture failed.
Su Linyuan, seeing them leave, returned to Jiang Xianyu to proceed with checkout.
In the car on the way back, Su Linyuan turned his head and teased, “Manager Jiang?”
Jiang Xianyu blushed slightly, humbly replying, “That was in the past. In front of Mr. Su, I’m nothing.”
Su Linyuan found the title “Manager Jiang” familiar, though he couldn’t recall where he’d heard it before.
Back home, Su Linyuan helped unload the groceries, while Jiang Xianyu put them in the fridge.
Su Linyuan watched her profile, his lips moving slightly, as if he was about to voice a question that had been lingering in his mind.
Feeling his gaze, Jiang Xianyu turned to look at him.
Su Linyuan quickly turned away, avoiding her eyes.
“Mr. Su, is there something you need my help with?” Jiang Xianyu asked.
Su Linyuan cleared his throat, “Not really, just noticed you seem quite happy since returning from the New Year.”
Jiang Xianyu touched her face, “Do I?”
Su Linyuan nodded affirmatively, then tentatively asked, “Did something good happen during the New Year?”
Jiang Xianyu smiled softly, “Yes, something good did happen.”
“Could you share it?” Su Linyuan’s heart was in his throat.
Thinking of her parents, Jiang Xianyu’s expression softened, “It’s nothing much, just that I have someone who loves me now.”
She didn’t elaborate, not wanting to discuss the adoption.
Su Linyuan pursed his lips, his gaze deepening as he looked at her radiant smile. He took a deep breath, trying to keep his voice calm, “You’re still young, some things aren’t urgent.”
Jiang Xianyu was puzzled, “What?”
Su Linyuan met her eyes, the lettuce in his hand slightly crushed, and said deliberately, “I mean, you should observe people more.”
“You really are quite… beautiful,” he said awkwardly.
The compliment caught Jiang Xianyu off guard.
With that praise as a foundation, Su Linyuan found it easier to express what he wanted to say.
“You’re educated, capable, beautiful, skilled in cooking, handy with repairs, adept at woodworking-you excel in so many areas. You deserve the best.”
Jiang Xianyu had never been praised so directly before, and for a moment, she was at a loss, her ears turning a shade of red.
Her lowered eyelashes trembled slightly, and her voice was a bit nervous, “Mr. Su, why are you suddenly praising me like this?”
Did she really deserve such compliments?
“I’m just speaking the truth,” Su Linyuan replied.
He chose his words carefully to sound more tactful and restrained.
“There’s no rush for you now. You’ll definitely meet someone better in the future.”
Hearing him say that she would meet someone better, Jiang Xianyu suddenly understood. It must have been their trip to the supermarket that reminded him of Wang Wei. She appreciated his thoughtfulness.
“Thank you, Mr. Su. I understand,” Jiang Xianyu said.
Su Linyuan felt a strange mix of pain and itchiness in his heart, as if something was clawing at him.
He wanted to directly ask if she had gone on a blind date during the New Year, but the words got stuck in his throat.
Rationally, he was her employer and shouldn’t pry into her personal life, as it might seem inappropriate. Yet, there was an impulse inside him urging him to ask.
He hesitated, but Jiang Xianyu noticed it was getting late and turned to prepare lunch.
Su Linyuan could only sit on the sofa with his head down.
His gaze followed her movements from the kitchen to the dining table until Jiang Xianyu called him for lunch.
At the dining table, they ate, but Su Linyuan seemed somewhat distracted.
Even after the meal, he didn’t bring up the question.
The next day, Su Linyuan took Jiang Xianyu to see the traditional Chinese medicine doctor they had previously arranged to visit.
The doctor observed Jiang Xianyu’s complexion as soon as she entered. Once she sat down, he placed a pulse pillow in front of her.
“Young girl, no need to be nervous. Extend your left hand, and I’ll check your pulse.”
Jiang Xianyu placed her left hand on the pillow.
The doctor placed his hand on hers, feeling her pulse carefully.
After a moment, he withdrew his hand and asked about her menstrual cycle and other related questions.
Su Linyuan couldn’t help but ask, “Dr. He, how is her condition? Last time, she was in so much pain she broke out in a cold sweat.”
Dr. He stroked his beard and smiled, “Young man, don’t worry. The young girl’s pulse is thin and slow, indicating a condition known as ‘cold in the womb.’ Fortunately, her menstrual cycle is regular. She just needs to keep warm, and I’ll prescribe some herbal medicine to warm her meridians and improve circulation, along with moxibustion. She’ll gradually get better.”
Seeing Su Linyuan listening intently, the doctor added reassuringly, “Rest assured, her condition isn’t severe. With proper care, it won’t affect her fertility.”
Su Linyuan blushed and glanced at Jiang Xianyu.
Jiang Xianyu quickly explained, “Doctor, you’ve misunderstood. We’re not in that kind of relationship.”
Dr. He just smiled knowingly and then pulled back a curtain.
“Young girl, lie down here. I’ll perform moxibustion to make you more comfortable during your next period.”
Jiang Xianyu obediently lay down.
Su Linyuan watched with a tense expression.
Dr. He prepared the moxibustion tools and instructed, “Lift your clothes a bit, just above the navel, and expose your lower abdomen.”
Jiang Xianyu complied, lifting her clothes.
It was then she remembered Su Linyuan was still there.
She glanced at him, and he quickly turned away, flustered.
He swore he hadn’t meant to look.
He hadn’t expected Jiang Xianyu to lift her clothes, even if it was just above the navel, but he caught a glimpse of her fair waist.
Thinking about that glimpse of pale skin, his ears turned slightly red.
Dr. He used the moxa stick on Jiang Xianyu’s acupuncture points, such as the Guanyuan and Qihai points.
Jiang Xianyu felt a warm sensation at the points where the moxa stick was applied, and after a few minutes, she began to sweat slightly.
After the moxibustion session, Jiang Xianyu felt a bit warm all over.
