Seeing Jiang Xianyu’s restless demeanor, Liu Lijun offered her a suggestion.
“Why don’t you ask Assistant Zhao? Didn’t you say he was handling this matter?”
Jiang Xianyu slapped her forehead, realizing she had completely forgotten about that.
With a plan in mind, Jiang Xianyu immediately sent a message to Assistant Zhao.
She was confident that Assistant Zhao would see the message.
No need to ask; the cellphone of a working person never gets switched off.
Sure enough, it wasn’t long before Assistant Zhao replied.
After learning how much money was involved, she transferred the amount to Assistant Zhao’s mobile.
“Assistant Zhao, please could you pass this on to Mr. Su.”
Assistant Zhao, seeing the transferred money on his phone, felt a pang of regret at his hasty action.
Seeing that he was hesitant to accept the money, Jiang Xianyu said, “If you don’t take it, I’ll have to give it to Mr. Su myself eventually, even if it means visiting him in person after the New Year to hand over the cash.”
Assistant Zhao sent a crying emoji in response.
Jiang Xianyu silently apologized to Assistant Zhao in her heart; she had no other choice.
Finally, Assistant Zhao accepted the money and, with a grimace, took a screenshot to show Su Linyuan.
At that moment, Su Linyuan was already at the Old Residence.
His housemaid was on annual leave, and with no one at home and the house feeling cold and empty, he had simply returned to the Old Residence.
Seeing the message from Assistant Zhao, his face turned green.
Grandma Su, noticing her grandson’s upset expression, asked with concern, “What’s wrong? Why are you so angry?”
Su Linyuan explained, “Jiang Xianyu couldn’t buy a ticket for the New Year holidays, so I got one for her, but this girl insists on sending me the money, all the way through Assistant Zhao.”
Grandma Su was surprised by his kindness, “Why are you being so generous all of a sudden?”
Not convinced, Su Linyuan retorted, “Grandma, do you really think I’m that stingy? Haven’t I always treated Aunt Li and Qian well?”
Grandma Su smiled and said, “Yes, yes, you’re the best.”
She actually wanted to say that her grandson usually doesn’t care so much about people he hasn’t known for long.
Listening to his grandmother’s childlike tone, Su Linyuan sighed softly, “Grandma, I’m not a child anymore.”
Grandma Su nodded in agreement, yet still spoke up for Jiang Xianyu, “Xianyu is not an easy child, she has a strong sense of pride. She’s not the type to take advantage of others. Just keep the money this time.”
Grandpa Su chimed in, “Keep the money, and when it’s time to pay her salary, give her a little extra as a bonus.”
He knew how these things worked.
Persuaded by his grandparents, Su Linyuan had Assistant Zhao transfer the money.
Assistant Zhao, feeling utterly relieved, didn’t delay a second longer than necessary – it was his responsibility.
Looking at the transferred money, Su Linyuan finally sent a message back to Jiang Xianyu, “I’ve received the money.”
Jiang Xianyu replied, “Okay.”
Su Linyuan read those two words over and over, feeling a slight pang in his heart.
The next morning, Old Master Su got up early.
After breakfast, seeing Su Linyuan leisurely scrolling through his phone, he said, “Come on, let’s go fishing.”
Su Linyuan was not particularly interested in fishing, but remembering how his grandfather used to post about it on social media, he suddenly felt like checking it out.
Today, there weren’t many people fishing at the artificial lake, but Old Li was there.
Su Linyuan greeted Old Li with a nod.
Old Li chuckled, “Linyuan, you’re back early this year.”
Su Linyuan smiled, “There was no one at home, so I came back sooner.”
Old Li nodded in agreement, “It’s not easy being alone out there. Coming back early is good.”
Then, turning to Old Master Su, he changed his tone, “Old Su, what brings you here so early today?”
They usually came in the afternoons.
“Well, since Linyuan is back, I thought maybe Xiao Yu’s luck might rub off on us.”
Old Li’s eyes lit up immediately.
“Who knows, it might just work.”
With that thought, he moved his fishing gear and small chair closer to Su Linyuan and remarked to Old Master Su, “Remember the good old days when Xiao Yu was with us? We were quite the spectacle.”
Su Linyuan listened intently, then curiously asked, “Xiao Yu? You mean Jiang Xianyu? Is she really good at fishing?”
He felt like he’d discovered another of her talents.
When it came to Jiang Xianyu, Old Master Su and Old Li had endless stories to share.
In their tales, Jiang Xianyu was like a reincarnated fishing deity; whoever sat next to her would catch fish.
Old Li even recounted the legend of her earning a thousand yuan in half an hour as a fishing companion.
Su Linyuan was left speechless.
No wonder during that time, the old man was always catching fish and posting about it on social media-it was all thanks to Jiang Xianyu.
Unfortunately, it seemed Su Linyuan had inherited his grandfather’s luck, as he hadn’t caught a single fish all morning.
Though Old Master Su didn’t say anything, his disappointed gaze seemed to pierce through Su Linyuan.
Awkwardly rubbing his nose, Su Linyuan had no idea why it was like this.
He felt the need to defend himself, “Grandpa, Grandpa Li, isn’t there a possibility that maybe your skills are lacking? We should trust in science.”
The response he got was two pairs of angry eyes glaring at him from either side.
Old Master Su said, “Nonsense. Ever since Xiao Yu blessed me, my fishing hauls have been better than before.”
Old Li nodded, “Your grandpa’s right. We manage to catch one or two fish a day now.”
Old Master Su looked at his grandson with disdain, “Go play somewhere else, don’t jinx my fishing luck.”
Suddenly, Old Li remembered the first time Jiang Xianyu went fishing and turned to Old Master Su, “Do you think we should try using worms?”
Old Master Su thought it was a good idea and looked at Su Linyuan.
“Xiao Yuan, go dig up some worms for Grandpa.”
Su Linyuan felt like he was about to break.
Seeing his grandfather’s serious expression, his mind raced until he remembered, “Grandpa, worms hibernate in winter.”
In the end, the two old men had to give up.
Their disappointment was palpable.
Back home, Su Linyuan vowed not to accompany his grandfather fishing again until he forgot about the worm-digging incident.
Meanwhile, Jiang Xianyu boarded a flight to the Film and Television City with her luggage and New Year gifts.
She was now enjoying the first-class service with a clear conscience.
After all, she had paid for it.
The flight from Hai City to the Film and Television City only took about an hour, and Jiang Xianyu arrived quickly.
At the airport, she was picked up by a friend of Chen Siling’s.
Given Chen Siling’s current status, she didn’t have an assistant yet, and the manager assigned by the company had several clients, so they couldn’t focus solely on Chen Siling.
Chen Siling’s friend was a young girl named Jiang Yue, who worked as an extra in the Film and Television City and was about the same age as Jiang Xianyu. She greeted Jiang Xianyu warmly.
She drove her straight to the apartment Chen Siling had rented.
“Jiang Jie, Siling is having a meal with the crew right now. She’ll be back after. You can settle in first, and I’ll take you to eat.”
Jiang Xianyu agreed and took some souvenirs from Hai City out of her bag to give to Jiang Yue. “These are from Hai City. Please try them.”
Jiang Yue thanked her with delight.
Jiang Xianyu had originally prepared these for Chen Siling’s manager, but she had bought extra just in case, and now they came in handy.
