- Chapter 47 - Cousin's Embarrassing Gift for Mr. Su
Qin Tao confidently stepped into the foyer, ignoring her silent cousin, and promptly pulled out a pair of slippers from her bag.
“I know you don’t keep spare slippers at home, but no worries, I’ve brought my own.”
This was a sore point for Qin Tao. She and her cousin were only two years apart, and they used to be close when they were younger. But after her aunt and uncle divorced, she visited the Su Family less frequently, and their relationship gradually became distant.
As her cousin grew older and moved out of the Old Residence, he wasn’t fond of visitors anymore.
Once, when she came to see him, she discovered he didn’t have any spare slippers at home. He really went to great lengths to keep people away.
She had considered entering without changing shoes but ended up being shut out by her cousin. Eventually, she had to put on a clean plastic bag to get inside.
Fortunately, where there’s a will, there’s a way. No slippers? No problem. She’d bring her own.
Sitting on the shoe bench, Qin Tao changed her shoes, her gaze inadvertently landing on a pair of fluffy snow boots.
These snow boots weren’t something Qian would wear. They were clearly favored by young girls.
With a mischievous smile, she looked up at Su Linyuan, who was heading towards the living room.
“Wait a minute,” Qin Tao asked slyly, “Cousin, are you hiding a beauty here?”
She gestured towards the snow boots.
Su Linyuan understood her implication, his face slightly flushed, but his tone remained calm, “What nonsense are you thinking?”
Qin Tao grinned cheekily, “Something’s fishy~”
Su Linyuan scoffed and headed to the living room.
Jiang Xianyu, seeing Su Linyuan go to open the door, went to the kitchen to prepare some fruit. As for drinks, she thought it best to ask the guest what they’d like before preparing anything.
Qin Tao quickly changed her shoes and followed Su Linyuan to the living room, sitting on the sofa. Her gaze, however, was fixed on the kitchen.
“Psst, psst,” Qin Tao called to Su Linyuan, winking, “Who’s that?”
Su Linyuan ignored her.
Seeing her trying to get closer, Su Linyuan jumped back, “Do you have any fur on you?”
Qin Tao hesitated, “I don’t think so? I used a lint roller before coming.”
She knew her cousin’s obsession with cleanliness, which is why she found the cat house in the garden so puzzling.
As a pet blogger, she had two cats at home. A brown tabby Maine Coon and a Ragdoll. Both were long-haired, leaving fur on her clothes every day.
At this moment, Jiang Xianyu came over with a tray of fruit, placing washed cherries, strawberries, and a few sliced oranges on the coffee table in front of Qin Tao.
“This lady…” Jiang Xianyu looked at Qin Tao’s unfamiliar face, unsure how to address her.
Seeing this, Su Linyuan spoke, “Her name is Qin Tao, my cousin from my uncle’s side. You can just call her by her name.”
Qin Tao looked at Jiang Xianyu, a bit surprised by her gentle and elegant appearance.
So this was the type her cousin liked? She had to admit, it was quite pleasing to the eye.
Now knowing Qin Tao’s identity, Jiang Xianyu found it easier to address her. “Miss Qin, I wasn’t sure what fruit you liked, so I washed these.”
Listening to the way she was addressed, Qin Tao felt something was off, both in the tone and the words.
However, her attention was quickly drawn to the fruits on the coffee table. She said, “I like them all.”
With that, she picked up a cherry and popped it into her mouth.
Jiang Xianyu asked again, “Miss Qin, would you like something to drink?”
Su Linyuan interjected, “Don’t bother with her.”
Then he turned to Qin Tao, “You’re a grown-up, can’t you help yourself?”
Qin Tao chuckled and pulled Jiang Xianyu to sit beside her, “It’s fine, I don’t need a drink. Fruits are enough.”
She then nudged the fruit platter towards Jiang Xianyu, “You should have some too.”
Jiang Xianyu remained still.
Qin Tao continued, “Hmm, these cherries are nice, very sweet. Actually, my favorite is durian.”
Mentioning durian, Su Linyuan felt a sense of foreboding and coughed, casting a warning glance at Qin Tao.
Unaware, Qin Tao went on, “But my cousin doesn’t like it, so I can only eat it at home.”
Talking about this seemed to open the floodgates for Qin Tao.
“You wouldn’t believe it, when we were kids, I made my cousin try durian. He took one bite and spat it out, never touched it again. I still remember his expression back then, it was hilarious, hahaha…”
Jiang Xianyu glanced towards Su Linyuan.
Su Linyuan covered his face with his hand, turning away, his ears and neck flushed red.
This girl, she really spills everything.
He was mortified.
Socially dead.
Seeing Qin Tao about to continue, Su Linyuan gritted his teeth and said, “Can’t you eat and keep quiet?”
Finally sensing the change in atmosphere, Qin Tao quickly reviewed what she’d just said. But she hadn’t said anything wrong, right?
Why did her cousin look like he’d been exposed and was now furious?
But her intuition told her it was best to stop now.
So Qin Tao stood up, awkwardly smiling, “Well, I’ll go see if there’s any drinks in the fridge.”
Jiang Xianyu wanted to help, but couldn’t match Qin Tao’s speed in escaping Su Linyuan’s death glare.
Jiang Xianyu watched her retreating figure, her hand reaching out in vain.
She remembered there was durian meat in the fridge, defrosting for a durian mille crepe.
Qin Tao opened the fridge, and her world crumbled.
What did she find in the fridge?
Durian!
Was this still the home of her cousin who spat out durian?
Quickly, she figured out the truth. Her cousin was blatantly double-standard.
She offered him durian, he spat it out.
His girlfriend offered him durian, and it could be stored in the fridge?
If it were her, not only would she not be able to bring durian inside, she’d be kicked out the moment she tried.
Qin Tao was furious.
She took out the plate of durian and marched towards Su Linyuan.
“Cousin, what’s this?”
Caught off guard, Su Linyuan hesitated for a moment but then regained his composure, “Durian, don’t you recognize it?”
Qin Tao accused, “So only your girlfriend can eat durian? I’m not worthy?”
“If you want to eat, I’m not stopping you, but do it outside.”
The cold wind howled outside, and Qin Tao shivered.
She turned to Jiang Xianyu with a pitiful smile, “Sister-in-law, talk some sense into him~”
Jiang Xianyu was stunned, her face turning red at the title. She quickly clarified, “Miss Qin, Mr. Su and I aren’t what you think. I’m employed as his housemaid.”
The living room fell silent.
Qin Tao thought she misheard, “Housemaid?”
Wow, are housemaids required to be this high-caliber now?
Besides basic skills, they need to be fair-skinned and beautiful?
Su Linyuan, hearing Qin Tao’s comment about housemaids, felt a bit uncomfortable, “What’s wrong with being a housemaid? No job is inferior!”
Qin Tao pursed her lips, looking at Su Linyuan with a knowing gaze that said she saw through his ulterior motives.
She knew something was off earlier.
Though she wasn’t sure of Jiang Xianyu’s feelings towards her cousin, she was certain her cousin had improper thoughts about his housemaid.
