With Lunar New Year’s Eve just two weeks away, Jiang Xianyu decided it was time to buy some holiday supplies. As she prepared to leave, Su Linyuan asked, “Heading out?”

Jiang Xianyu replied while putting on her coat, “The New Year is approaching, and I want to buy some festive goods.”

Su Linyuan’s eyes lit up, “Going to the supermarket?”

“Yes,” Jiang Xianyu nodded.

“Perfect timing, I have nothing to do. I’ll go with you.” With that, he grabbed his coat and slipped it on.

Seeing Jiang Xianyu still standing there, he frowned and urged, “Come on, what are you waiting for?”

Only then did Jiang Xianyu snap out of her daze and follow him.

Even as she settled into Su Linyuan’s sleek black Rolls-Royce, she felt a bit bewildered. She had intended to shop for New Year’s supplies alone, yet here she was, going to the supermarket with her boss.

Watching her boss drive, Jiang Xianyu felt a bit uneasy. “Mr. Su, I’m buying these supplies for my family’s New Year celebration.”

“Just right, I need to buy some too.”

Jiang Xianyu pursed her lips. Wasn’t it obvious? People like him have their New Year supplies prepared in advance. Spring couplets and auspicious symbols are delivered to the villa area, all high-end and expensive. Other items are also brought to their doorsteps by designated personnel.

But since the boss insisted, she couldn’t refuse.

At the supermarket, Jiang Xianyu went to grab a shopping cart. Su Linyuan, with his long strides, beat her to it.

Jiang Xianyu walked beside him, from a distance they looked like a couple. At least, that’s how Wang Wei saw them.

In the months since Jiang Xianyu left her job, Wang Wei realized how difficult it was to navigate the financial world without connections or backing. Previously, Jiang Xianyu was a VP at Huayuan, several levels above him. Even when her parents caused a scene at the company and colleagues privately looked down on her, her authority remained intact, and she managed numerous projects.

If she had given him even a slight hint or a bit of help, his work would have been much smoother. Now, without her guidance and assistance, he frequently made mistakes at work and had been reprimanded by his superiors multiple times.

Especially with the New Year approaching, his family kept urging him to bring his girlfriend home. He had once boasted proudly to his family about his VP girlfriend, but now he was at a loss.

Wang Wei had been planning to message Jiang Xianyu these past few days. Even though they were no longer a couple, they had been together for a year, and there was still some sentiment between them. Despite being the one who initiated the breakup, he knew Jiang Xianyu’s gentle nature wouldn’t lead her to completely ignore him.

Even though she had resigned, her work skills remained intact, and he could still seek her advice on many matters, which would greatly ease his career path. It would be even better if she could put in a good word for him with some of the clients and executives. He was well aware that even after her resignation, many clients still inquired about her.

To his surprise, before he could reach out to her, she had already hooked up with another man. If they were shopping at the supermarket together, they must be living together, right?

This thought sparked a wave of anger in Wang Wei. He had wanted to rent a place with her back then, but she had refused. As her subordinate, he didn’t dare push too hard. Yet, it hadn’t been long since their breakup, and she was already cohabiting with someone else. It was frustrating to think that he had been so intimidated by her authority that he hadn’t even gotten her into bed. What a loss!

Jiang Xianyu was unaware that Wang Wei was watching her and Su Linyuan from a distance. At the moment, she was busy picking out items. Her aunt had suffered health issues in the past, and she found bird’s nest effective, so she picked up a box of it along with a box of ejiao¹. Her uncle didn’t smoke but occasionally enjoyed a drink and drank plenty of tea. She bought two bottles of good liquor and a box of tea leaves.

Su Linyuan played the role of a diligent shopping assistant, pushing the cart attentively. As they approached the aisle for women’s care products, Jiang Xianyu paused and asked, “Do you need anything from here?”

Su Linyuan quickly noticed the sanitary pads ahead and turned his head away, saying, “You go ahead, I’ll check out some fruits.”

With Su Linyuan gone, Jiang Xianyu proceeded to select some sanitary pads. Wang Wei, who had been following them discreetly, saw the man leave and hurried over.

With an angry expression, he confronted her, “Jiang Xianyu, I didn’t expect you to be such a shameless woman!”

Jiang Xianyu frowned, recognizing the man who had suddenly appeared before her. Once she realized who it was, she retorted angrily, “Wang Wei, are you crazy? What’s wrong with you?”

Wang Wei sneered, “Crazy? Who’s the one lacking decency here? We broke up not long ago, and you’re already rushing to find someone else?”

Jiang Xianyu was taken aback by his attitude. Wang Wei had always been somewhat timid, never daring to raise his voice with her. But her surprise was fleeting, quickly suppressed by her dislike for his accusatory tone.

She hadn’t been involved with any other man, and even if she had, they were no longer together, so she was free to do as she pleased. “We’ve been broken up for months. Whether I find someone else or not is none of your business.”

Wang Wei felt a pang of tension at her righteous rebuttal, but remembering she was no longer his superior, his courage swelled. “Don’t try to deny it. You two are shopping together, don’t pretend you’re not involved.”

Thinking back to how he had compromised during their relationship, Wang Wei grew increasingly agitated. “If I’d known you were so eager, I should have slept with you back then.”

Jiang Xianyu’s face turned ashen, trembling with anger at his vulgar words. Without hesitation, she raised her hand and slapped him hard. “You disgusting jerk, you make me sick!”

Jiang Xianyu’s slap was forceful. Wang Wei’s ears buzzed, his head turned to the side from the impact. He glared at her, his expression dark and incredulous. “Damn it, you dare hit me?!”

As he spoke, he raised his arm to strike back. The young girls who had been browsing the sanitary products quickly moved away, some going to find security. Having listened for a while, they understood that the man was the young girl’s ex-boyfriend. Though they didn’t know the whole story, they knew the couple had been broken up for a while, and now the man was harassing her.

With the disparity in physical strength, if things escalated, the young girl would be at a disadvantage. They needed to find security to help her immediately!
