- Chapter 42 - Mr. Su's First Encounter with Menstrual Pain
After signing the contract, Su Linyuan seemed to have completed a major life task. His entire demeanor transformed from a cold, irritable person to someone sunny and amiable, as if the awkwardness of the past few days had never occurred.
Jiang Xianyu didn’t delve further into the matter; she was simply relieved that he had become easier to deal with.
In the afternoon, Banshan Villa welcomed three visitors. Assistant Zhao arrived with two workers to install a dishwasher.
Seeing the box of a ridiculously expensive dishwasher brand, Jiang Xianyu couldn’t help but be taken aback. This dishwasher cost more than her salary.
Zhao Tianming glanced at his boss, who was flipping through a book on the sofa, and curiously asked, “Mr. Su, what made you suddenly decide to install a dishwasher?”
As he spoke, his gaze drifted towards Jiang Xianyu, unable to hide the gossiping spark in his eyes.
Su Linyuan frowned, “What kind of look is that? I have money; I can buy whatever I want.”
Zhao Tianming smiled, “If you put it that way, I really can’t argue with you.”
Despite being teased, Assistant Zhao couldn’t resist saying, “Mr. Su, if Qian finds out, she’ll be crying in the bathroom.”
Su Linyuan pretended to kick him.
Zhao Tianming quickly jumped behind Jiang Xianyu.
Sure enough, Su Linyuan awkwardly retracted his long leg, glancing at Jiang Xianyu’s face.
Jiang Xianyu smiled and quietly stepped out of the two men’s playful circle.
The workers finished the installation quickly.
Jiang Xianyu approached, “Sir, could you briefly explain how to use it?”
It was her first time using such a high-end dishwasher.
Su Linyuan, hearing this, also stepped forward.
Jiang Xianyu was puzzled, “Mr. Su, I can learn it myself.”
Su Linyuan insisted, “Why can’t I learn? When you’re gone, I’ll have to teach Qian. She’s older and not very good with new things.”
Jiang Xianyu was taken aback, “You teaching Qian?”
She imagined him teaching until the dishwasher short-circuited.
Su Linyuan felt a bit frustrated. Did she really see him as such a useless person?
The worker, seeing their back-and-forth, awkwardly scratched his head and said, “Actually, it’s not complicated to operate.”
Jiang Xianyu fell silent.
After a simple demonstration, the worker left.
Zhao Tianming also departed with him.
Suddenly, the villa was left with just Jiang Xianyu and Su Linyuan.
Jiang Xianyu asked, “Why did you suddenly decide to install a dishwasher?”
Su Linyuan’s gaze was somewhat unnatural, “Why does there need to be a reason? I’m not short on money.”
Alright, Jiang Xianyu thought, she shouldn’t have bothered asking.
Soon enough, Jiang Xianyu realized the benefits of having a dishwasher.
Her menstruation arrived unexpectedly, and not having to wash dishes was a huge relief.
She had a tough upbringing, often dealing with cold water in the harsh winter. Her nutrition was lacking during her childhood, and since she started menstruating, she had suffered from menstrual pain.
Each time, she would break out in a cold sweat, her face pale as a sheet.
Let alone doing chores; not fainting was considered fortunate.
Previously, she relied on painkillers to get through it.
This time, her menstruation came unexpectedly.
Perhaps due to her adjusted schedule, her menstruation was delayed for several days and only arrived today.
Su Linyuan was already coming down the stairs early in the morning when he saw Jiang Xianyu rummaging through the medicine cabinet.
Her own painkillers were at Jinxiu Garden, so she had to make do with Su Linyuan’s for now.
“What’s wrong? Are you sick?” Su Linyuan approached her quickly.
It was only upon getting closer that he noticed her pale complexion and bloodless lips.
He was startled, “What’s wrong? Where does it hurt? I-I’ll call an ambulance!”
As he spoke, he pulled out his phone to dial 120.
Jiang Xianyu reached out to hold his phone, her voice weak, “No need, it’s just menstrual pain.”
Su Linyuan, who had lived for twenty-nine years, was facing this situation for the first time.
He certainly knew what menstrual pain was, but he had no clear concept of it.
How painful it could be, how to care for it, what medication to take, he didn’t know any of these details.
After all, no woman in his family suffered from it.
“What should we do?” he asked anxiously.
Jiang Xianyu squatted on the ground, too pained to speak. All she could feel was darkness coming over her eyes.
As she felt herself about to faint, she grabbed Su Linyuan’s arm, waiting for the dizzy spell to pass, her body breaking out in cold sweat.
“Help me… find some painkillers,” Jiang Xianyu pleaded as she looked up at Su Linyuan, “I’ll buy new ones later to replace yours.”
It wasn’t that Jiang Xianyu was being fussy about a box of medicine, but her housemaid contract stipulated she couldn’t use her employer’s belongings without permission unless allowed.
Hearing this, Su Linyuan’s face turned ashen, glaring at her, tempted to see what was really on her mind.
“Who cares about a box of medicine at a time like this!” he said, sounding frustrated.
The house was well-stocked with medications, so there were plenty to choose from.
In a flurry, Su Linyuan found a box of ibuprofen at the bottom of the medicine cabinet.
Holding it up to her, he asked, “Will this work?”
Jiang Xianyu nodded.
Relieved, Su Linyuan was about to get up to get her some water.
But Jiang Xianyu didn’t give him the chance; she pried out a pill and swallowed it dry.
“You…” Su Linyuan was stunned.
Seeing his expression, Jiang Xianyu couldn’t help but laugh a little, grateful just to have medicine. As a child, she had swallowed far bitterer pills in one go.
Was she supposed to be coddled while taking medicine?
In her current pain, swallowing a pill dry was nothing.
Su Linyuan felt a pang of distress seeing her so accustomed to hardship.
Perhaps the medication began working, or maybe squatting had somewhat eased the menstrual cramps, but Jiang Xianyu tried to stand up slowly.
Only then did Su Linyuan dare to touch her.
As she stood up, he swept her into his arms.
Jiang Xianyu gasped, instinctively wrapping her arms around his neck.
Su Linyuan’s ears reddened as he swiftly carried her up to the third floor.
Carrying someone up the stairs without much effort surprised Jiang Xianyu with his physical strength.
“If you’re feeling unwell, just lie down on the bed. I’m not the kind of boss who doesn’t care if someone dies. I do have humanity,” Su Linyuan somewhat lectured.
Jiang Xianyu lowered her gaze, her voice soft, “Thank you, Su Linyuan.”
Su Linyuan paused in covering her with a blanket, surprised she called him by his full name for the first time – previously, she had always called him Mr. Su.
To think he would hear her call him by his full name in his lifetime.
Though she used both his first and last name, it was still quite special.
His irritation about her needing to replace the medicine subsided significantly.
“What now?” Su Linyuan asked, never having taken care of someone with menstrual pain before.
Without waiting for Jiang Xianyu to respond, he suggested, “Want some water? Or something to eat?”
Jiang Xianyu shook her head, “It’s okay, I just need to wait for the medicine to work.”
Su Linyuan sat down beside her bed, “Then you sleep, I’ll watch over you.”
Jiang Xianyu looked at his earnest face and quietly turned away, murmuring, “There’s no need, I’ll be fine soon.”
“You better not be lying to me. Just now, you nearly passed out. If I leave and you faint, no one would even know.”
Jiang Xianyu replied, “It’s not that serious. Menstrual pain is actually…”
Su Linyuan raised his hand to stop her, “Don’t say any more, I don’t doubt you, I’ll check it myself.”
Saying that, he indeed took out his phone and began searching.
Jiang Xianyu sighed; was her word so unreliable?
Watching Su Linyuan earnestly researching menstrual pain, a warm current surged through her. She felt a mix of fear and trepidation.
She reminded herself internally that he was the boss, the employer, someone she shouldn’t think too much about.
