- Chapter 41 - Extending for Another Month
On the last day of the New Year’s Day holiday, Su Linyuan woke up early, feeling bright and cheerful. He descended the stairs with a spring in his step.
Spotting Jiang Xianyu busy in the kitchen, he greeted her proactively, “Morning, Jiang Xianyu.”
Jiang Xianyu, clad in an apron, turned around with a spatula in one hand and a frying pan in the other, “Morning, Mr. Su.”
After speaking, she scrutinized Su Linyuan’s expression. He seemed unusually exuberant today; could it be that the issues with Yuan Yi Technology had been resolved? Confused, she continued with her tasks.
Leaning against the kitchen door, Su Linyuan watched Jiang Xianyu at work. The winter morning sunlight streamed through the window panes, casting a serene and warm glow on her, creating an aura of purity and comfort.
As he watched, he became somewhat entranced, murmuring, “You really are beautiful.”
Jiang Xianyu nearly dropped her spatula, her heart skipped a beat, and she turned around, her face flushed. She wanted to see what had gotten into him. If she hadn’t known from her previous life that he was impatient with women, she might have thought he was deliberately flirting with her.
Su Linyuan felt a wave of nervousness under her gaze. He hadn’t meant anything by it; it was just a spontaneous remark.
“I didn’t mean it like that,” he quickly explained, his face turning even redder than Jiang Xianyu’s. “I meant, after breakfast, I have something to discuss with you.”
With that, he feigned composure and hurriedly left.
Jiang Xianyu watched his retreating figure, feeling a bit annoyed. Why say something so suggestive out of the blue? She was just a housemaid!
After calming her racing heart, Jiang Xianyu returned to her work. Breakfast was soon ready, and they ate in silence.
After the meal, just as Su Linyuan was about to speak, Jiang Xianyu hurriedly began clearing the table. Su Linyuan’s outstretched hand froze in mid-air.
Jiang Xianyu’s movements were swift; once she completed her routine tasks, her time was her own, and no one could interrupt her work-not even the boss.
Watching Jiang Xianyu busy in the kitchen, Su Linyuan quietly took out his phone.
“Assistant Zhao, get me a dishwasher, and have someone install it ASAP!”
Having grown up spending a lot of time with his grandparents, Qian and others were accustomed to washing dishes by hand. His grandparents believed dishwashers didn’t clean thoroughly and wasted water, so when the villa was renovated, no dishwasher was installed.
He hadn’t given it much thought. Whether a dishwasher was installed or not made no difference to him, as he wasn’t the one washing dishes.
However, considering technological advancements, installing one seemed necessary. It could save a lot of time for those doing household chores.
Once Jiang Xianyu finished tidying up the kitchen and was about to head upstairs to clean, Su Linyuan called out, “Jiang Xianyu, come over here.”
Jiang Xianyu complied, asking, “What’s up? Do you need my help with something?”
Su Linyuan gestured to the sofa, “Have a seat first.”
Jiang Xianyu sat down, and Su Linyuan retrieved a folder from beneath the coffee table and handed it to her.
Jiang Xianyu glanced down; it was an employment contract.
“What’s this?”
Su Linyuan cleared his throat, saying, “Yesterday, Qian called to ask for an extra month’s leave.”
“I thought, Qian’s been looking forward to having a grandson for so long. Now that she finally has him, she hasn’t had enough time to enjoy it. Separating them now seems a bit inhumane.”
“She’s been taking care of me since I graduated, and even if she hasn’t achieved much, she’s certainly worked hard. So I agreed.”
“You mentioned last time you weren’t planning to find a new job right away. Why not extend your contract with me for another month?”
Despite all he said, Su Linyuan couldn’t discern whether Jiang Xianyu was inclined to accept or reject his offer.
He pressed on, “Don’t worry, I know you plan to go home for the New Year. It’s fine, I’ll give you the holiday off, and your salary and bonuses will remain unchanged.”
Jiang Xianyu glanced at the contract and pushed it back to Su Linyuan.
His expression cooled a bit, “You don’t agree? Why not? Didn’t you say bosses like me are rare?”
Jiang Xianyu sighed, “You’ve misunderstood.”
“Working is for earning money. Of course, it’s good if I can continue working, but I’m registered with the housekeeping company, so the contract has to be signed with them.”
This was something Su Linyuan hadn’t realized.
During the month Jiang Xianyu worked here, all contract-related matters were handled by the elders of the Su Family.
Thinking about the housekeeping company, Su Linyuan frowned.
He’s dealt with many companies, including housekeeping ones, and he knows they take a commission from housemaids and nannies.
The commission rate is typically between twenty to thirty percent.
For someone like Jiang Xianyu, earning twenty thousand a month, the company would take four to six thousand.
She works hard, yet doesn’t receive her full salary, which irked Su Linyuan.
However, housekeeping companies do have their advantages: a broad client base, greater trust from clients, and a layer of security for housemaids.
But knowing this didn’t make him feel any better.
“How much does your company take from you?” Su Linyuan asked.
Jiang Xianyu replied, “Not much, only ten percent.”
Su Linyuan was surprised, “Only ten percent?”
Jiang Xianyu nodded with a smile, “My situation is a bit unique, different from others. They only take ten percent of my salary, not including bonuses or allowances.”
Previously, when she was working part-time, the company took thirty percent.
Back then, she was inexperienced, and the company provided training and arranged for various certifications, hence the thirty percent cut.
Later, as she gained certifications and received positive reviews from employers, her value increased, and the company’s commission dropped to twenty percent.
Actually, despite the ten percent reduction, the company earned more than when they took thirty percent, because her value had risen.
Now, as she’s re-registered with the company and is a graduate from a prestigious school, she negotiated to only have ten percent taken.
This is the lowest commission rate for a housekeeping company.
Understanding the situation, Su Linyuan put the contract away, “Which housekeeping company are you registered with?”
“Aisheng.”
Su Linyuan found the name familiar and soon remembered, “Is it the one under ZTE Steward Group?”
Jiang Xianyu wasn’t surprised he knew Aisheng.
After all, Aisheng is one of the top companies in Hai City.
Once he confirmed, Su Linyuan called Assistant Zhao, “Get me the contact number for the boss of Aisheng Housekeeping Company under ZTE.”
Listening to Su Linyuan calling Aisheng’s boss to send someone over to sign the contract, Jiang Xianyu sighed inwardly, indeed, CEOs expect door-to-door service.
Half an hour later, General Sheng, the boss of Aisheng, personally arrived with the contract.
Signing the contract was secondary; making a good impression was the main goal.
After reviewing the contract, Su Linyuan signed his name, allowing Jiang Xianyu to work here for another month.
As General Sheng left, he nodded kindly at Jiang Xianyu.
He remembered this high-achieving, multi-certified housemaid well, as he was the one who approved her commission rate.
He hadn’t expected her to be so capable, securing an extension from someone like Su Linyuan.
A true talent indeed.
