From Dropout to Housemaid-The Upper Crust's Favorite - Chapter 36 - Delivering Lunch
Inside Banshan Villa, Jiang Xianyu began preparing lunch. She noticed the pineapples delivered this morning and decided to make sweet and sour pork. With fresh shrimp available, she planned to whip up some spicy stir-fried shrimp tails. The fridge had chicken wings, perfect for honey-glazed wings, and there was a cabbage for some shredded cabbage stir-fry. Lastly, she prepared a cold jellyfish salad. As for the cherries and strawberries in the fridge, they would serve as dessert.
However, soup was off the menu this time; it wasn’t convenient to deliver and consume.
With her plan set, Jiang Xianyu got to work. By eleven-thirty, the dishes were ready. She carefully packed them into insulated containers and drove to Chengyuan Capital.
The company guard recognized Su Linyuan’s car and let her through without hesitation, though his curiosity was barely concealed. Who could drive Mr. Su’s car? Either a family member or a girlfriend, surely. Despite the mask, her refined features suggested she was a beauty, likely the boss’s girlfriend.
Jiang Xianyu drove into the parking garage and made her way to the elevator lobby on the first floor. It was lunchtime, and people were bustling around the elevators.
Zhao Tianming spotted Jiang Xianyu and hurried over. “Miss Jiang, Mr. Su is waiting in his office. Please follow me.”
Since the President’s Office required a keycard for access, Assistant Zhao had been dispatched to escort her.
The elevator was crowded, and Assistant Zhao took the food containers from Jiang Xianyu, standing quietly to the side. The lively chatter ceased as all eyes turned to Jiang Xianyu. Everyone speculated about her identity. For Assistant Zhao to personally escort her, she must be someone important. Many assumed she was Mr. Su’s girlfriend, deciding it was best to show respect.
Jiang Xianyu was grateful for her mask and scarf, which shielded her from prying eyes. She had anticipated encountering familiar faces in the capital circle, but it was a relief to avoid scrutiny.
As people entered and exited the elevator, it soon emptied. Jiang Xianyu breathed a sigh of relief, and Zhao Tianming finally spoke.
“Mr. Su hasn’t been to the office lately; he’s gotten used to home-cooked meals.”
Jiang Xianyu chuckled, “He’s recovering from an injury, so it’s good to be mindful of his diet.”
Assistant Zhao thought to himself, what a considerate person, even outside, she protected Mr. Su’s reputation.
Upon reaching the top floor, Assistant Zhao escorted her to the President’s Office and then left to have his own lunch.
When Jiang Xianyu arrived, Su Linyuan was diligently reviewing documents at his desk. He paused his work upon seeing her.
“What delicious treats have you made today?” he asked.
Jiang Xianyu opened the containers one by one. The villa wasn’t far from the company, so the dishes still looked appealing.
“They’re just some home-cooked meals, your favorite flavors.”
Su Linyuan accepted the utensils she handed him and looked at Jiang Xianyu. “Have you eaten? Join me.”
Jiang Xianyu shook her head, “No, I left some at home. I’ll eat when I get back.”
Su Linyuan stood up and fetched a spare set of utensils, “Here you go.”
Jiang Xianyu couldn’t refuse his kindness, so she joined Su Linyuan for the meal. They had often shared meals at home before, and the atmosphere remained harmonious.
After finishing the meal, Jiang Xianyu efficiently tidied up and prepared to leave.
Su Linyuan called out to her, “Would you like to take a tour of the company?”
Jiang Xianyu declined; touring the company wasn’t necessary. Investment banks all looked similar to her. However, she could visit her close friend and bring her some desserts.
Su Linyuan watched her leave with the small box, his thoughts swirling. He had assumed the box was meant for him, but it turned out not to be.
As she exited the office, Jiang Xianyu sent a WeChat message to Liu Lijun, “Hey, I’ve brought you some treats. Are you at your desk?”
Liu Lijun, who was at her desk playing on her phone, replied instantly, “I heard someone brought lunch for Mr. Su. I guessed it was you. I’m at my desk, come over.”
Jiang Xianyu recalled Liu Lijun mentioning they were on the third floor.
Once Jiang Xianyu entered the elevator, the people from the President’s Office finally withdrew their gazes and commented in the colleague group chat, “The woman who brought lunch has gone downstairs.”
The chat buzzed with speculation about what kind of beauty could win over Mr. Su.
Liu Lijun, silently observing, smirked like someone enjoying gossip but unable to share it.
Jiang Xianyu arrived on the third floor and saw Liu Lijun waving at her.
Jiang Xianyu placed a small cake on Liu Lijun’s desk, gestured for silence, and waved her phone, indicating to contact her by phone if needed, then prepared to leave.
Liu Lijun understood her concerns; after all, Jiang Xianyu had previously worked in investment banking and signed agreements. Appearing at another investment bank wasn’t ideal.
Liu Lijun blew her a kiss and winked, signaling she understood.
Jiang Xianyu had just walked a few steps when a male voice called out.
“Wait a moment.”
Jiang Xianyu turned to see a man around thirty-five, wearing gold-rimmed glasses, looking at her with a friendly gaze.
Jiang Xianyu was puzzled, “Are you calling me?”
Yao Guangzhang nodded, “You seem familiar.”
He had seen the group chat messages about someone bringing lunch for Mr. Su. Initially, he guessed she might be Mr. Su’s girlfriend, but seeing her clothes were decent yet not branded, he dismissed the idea.
Regardless of who she was, she was clearly close to Mr. Su. He thought to gather some information.
His comment about her seeming familiar was genuine; her silhouette felt familiar, as if he’d seen her somewhere before.
As they spoke, more people trickled into the office, many of whom had been in the elevator.
Those with foresight had already gone to the break room to make coffee. Building rapport with the boss’s potential partner couldn’t hurt.
Yao Guangzhang asked, “Miss, are you Mr. Su’s girlfriend?”
To him, this question seemed a way to bridge the gap.
Jiang Xianyu was young, with a good figure, and even though only her eyes were visible, it was clear she was a beauty. Someone like her bringing lunch for Mr. Su, even if not his girlfriend, likely had some interest in him.
Jiang Xianyu was puzzled by his behavior, “I’m sorry, I’m not Mr. Su’s girlfriend. I’m their housemaid.”
Yao Guangzhang was surprised, suspecting she was joking.
Jiang Xianyu earnestly replied, “I truly am their housemaid.”
Her words caused the employee who had brought coffee to freeze with a strained smile.
Their gaze towards Jiang Xianyu now carried a hint of disdain.
Holding the coffee, she felt embarrassed.
Despite being a white-collar worker earning over ten thousand a month, she had just made coffee for a housemaid, which felt demeaning.
She scrutinized Jiang Xianyu again, speaking with some scorn, “So young, and you choose to be a housemaid. It’s clear what your intentions are.”
Jiang Xianyu looked at her inexplicably, “What I do is none of your business. Your president hired me. If you have issues, take them up with him.”
The woman naturally wouldn’t dare confront Su Linyuan. She simply felt embarrassed by her previous actions and wanted to vent her frustration, hoping to regain some dignity.
