From Dropout to Housemaid-The Upper Crust's Favorite - Chapter 35 - Voices
In the evening, Su Linyuan emerged from the shower and knocked on Jiang Xianyu’s door.
By this time, Jiang Xianyu had already changed into her pajamas, ready for bed. She had been going to sleep early lately.
Ensuring her pajamas were decent and not revealing, Jiang Xianyu opened the door wearing her slippers.
“Mr. Su, is there something you need help with?”
Su Linyuan raised his hand, showing the ointment he held. “Just had a shower, need to apply the medicine.”
Jiang Xianyu took the ointment and asked, “Should we do it in your room or here?”
Su Linyuan gestured towards her room. “Here is fine.”
Recalling the first time they applied the ointment, he thought she might feel more comfortable in her own room.
Jiang Xianyu didn’t say much and turned back into the bedroom.
Su Linyuan followed closely behind, leaving the door slightly ajar as he entered.
Unlike the first time, which was filled with tension and awkwardness, Su Linyuan was straightforward about removing his shirt this time.
Lying on the bed with its beige floral sheets, he noticed a faint fragrance similar to Jiang Xianyu’s scent. The bed was still warm from where she had been lying, and he found it more comfortable than his own.
Jiang Xianyu examined the injuries on Su Linyuan’s back. The areas that had been slightly bleeding were now scabbed over, resembling the aftermath of an overly vigorous scrub at a bathhouse. However, the large bruises seemed more severe than before.
The bruises had turned a deep purple-red, indicating it would take some time to heal completely.
Jiang Xianyu carefully dabbed the ointment with a cotton swab, applying it gently. As she worked, she asked, “Does it still hurt?”
Su Linyuan’s heartbeat quickened, his voice muffled from beneath his arm. “It’s alright, as long as it’s not pulled, there’s no pain.”
Jiang Xianyu understood it was a gradual process, but thankfully, there were no major issues now.
After a moment, Jiang Xianyu said, “All done.”
She helped Su Linyuan pull his shirt back up.
Su Linyuan sat up, his voice carrying a hint of regret. “That’s it?”
Jiang Xianyu looked at him, puzzled.
Realizing what he had said, Su Linyuan cleared his throat. “I mean, you were quicker this time than the first.”
“Oh, the first time was because it was a fresh injury, needed thorough disinfecting.”
“Well… I’ll head back to my room then.” Having adjusted his clothes, Su Linyuan spoke with some difficulty.
Jiang Xianyu escorted him to the door and then closed it behind him.
Returning to her bed, Jiang Xianyu slowly exhaled, silently congratulating herself.
She had handled it well this time-professional, calm, not swayed by his looks.
Su Linyuan glanced back at the closed door, feeling a bizarre sense of being sent out by a wife.
Startled by his own thoughts, Su Linyuan shook his head and quickly returned to his room.
Over the next couple of days, Su Linyuan made it a routine to visit Jiang Xianyu’s room after his nightly showers for the ointment application.
Jiang Xianyu was puzzled. Butler Lu had mentioned that Su Linyuan disliked others entering his private space and had a mild case of germophobia.
Yet, when he lay on her bed, he showed no discomfort, making her question the accuracy of Butler Lu’s information.
Su Linyuan returned to work at the company three days later.
During these days, Liu Lijun was incredibly happy, sending cute emojis to Jiang Xianyu, a stark contrast to her previous downtrodden worker persona.
As Su Linyuan headed to work, Jiang Xianyu quietly messaged her best friend.
“Your boss will arrive on the battlefield in twenty minutes.”

“He just left home, so good luck, sister,” Jiang Xianyu typed with a smile.
Liu Lijun: “Thanks for saving my life, sister. Let me know next time you have any news.”
Jiang Xianyu sent an OK gesture.
At Chengyuan Capital.
Liu Lijun immediately sat up straight, quickly organizing her tasks.
With the big boss coming, there would likely be a meeting. She reviewed her responsibilities thoroughly to ensure nothing could be criticized.
Colleagues around her chuckled, “Why are you so excited? The big boss isn’t here yet, and meetings are no big deal.”
Liu Lijun smiled, thinking to herself that he would soon arrive.
But she couldn’t say it out loud, so she just gave them a hopeful look.
Soon, Su Linyuan’s tall figure appeared in the company, causing a small stir.
Assistant Zhao nearly teared up, “Mr. Su, you’re finally back.”
He hurried to the President’s Office to fetch the accumulated documents.
Though Su Linyuan hadn’t been idle at home, these documents required urgent attention; now, they represented accumulated work.
Su Linyuan remained expressionless, “Bring them over.”
Assistant Zhao quickly placed the documents on Su Linyuan’s desk and stood by to help sort and report on the related matters.
As he listened, Su Linyuan’s mind involuntarily drifted to Jiang Xianyu’s voice.
He glanced at Assistant Zhao, unable to resist saying, “Isn’t your voice a bit rough?”
Startled by Su Linyuan’s comment, Assistant Zhao touched his throat, “What’s wrong with my voice? Is it hoarse?”
Su Linyuan gave him a look that said, “You figure it out.”
Assistant Zhao’s mouth twitched. Wow, now even assistants need pleasant voices?
He softened his voice, “Mr. Su, this is…”
Su Linyuan stiffened, looking at Zhao Tianming, “How can a person make such a disgusting sound?”
Assistant Zhao: He’s going to lose it!
Seeing Zhao’s face, Su Linyuan didn’t expect much from him and asked about other matters, “Who’s in charge of the Yuan Yi Technology project?”
Assistant Zhao handed the documents to Su Linyuan, thinking for a moment, “It’s General Zhou, Zhou Qiang.”
Su Linyuan paused his signing, “Zhou Qiang? I remember Yao Guangzhang initially chose this project.”
Zhao Tianming replied, “Initially, it was General Yao, but somehow the project ended up with General Zhou.”
Su Linyuan signed the documents without looking up, “Have someone check Yuan Yi Technology’s new patent, see if there’s anything amiss.”
He trusted Jiang Xianyu but needed evidence for further action.
Assistant Zhao knew the boss’s orders meant something was wrong and quickly went to investigate.
Once Assistant Zhao left, Su Linyuan looked at the stack of documents, missing Jiang Xianyu’s efficiency.
He checked his phone; it was nine o’clock.
Her work should be finished by now.
Moments later, he sent Jiang Xianyu a voice message.
“I don’t want to eat at the cafeteria for lunch.”
Jiang Xianyu looked at the message, puzzled, and tentatively asked, “Do you want me to cook for you?”
Su Linyuan replied with a cool “Hmm.”
Having grown accustomed to home-cooked meals, he didn’t want to settle for less at lunch.
Though the company’s cafeteria food was decent, it couldn’t compare to Jiang Xianyu’s cooking.
“Shall I prepare it and bring it over at noon?”
“Okay.”
Su Linyuan typed a single word with a smile.
Then he added, “Just drive the car from the garage over; you know where the keys are.”
“Alright, Mr. Su.”
Jiang Xianyu’s simple reply successfully made Su Linyuan’s smile vanish.
That sense of distance returned.
