From Dropout to Housemaid-The Upper Crust's Favorite - Chapter 32 - Pride Lost
Outside the gates of Banshan Villa.
Jiang Xianyu successfully rode her E-ride to this point. As long as she safely navigated the downhill road from Banshan Villa to the main road, where there were more pedestrians and vehicles and less snow, it wouldn’t be as slippery.
The idea was promising, but she had barely left the villa area, about a hundred meters away, when she encountered a car returning to the villa. The downhill road was somewhat slippery, and she quickly hit the brakes.
In an instant, the rear tire skidded, and the E-ride tipped over uncontrollably, causing her to fall to the ground. Meanwhile, the car continued its speed towards the villa area without stopping.
Jiang Xianyu watched the car drive away, sighed, and resigned herself to bad luck as she got up. Fortunately, she was dressed warmly, and although her leg hurt a bit, there was no serious injury.
Su Linyuan was fiddling irritably with the remote control when his phone rang. He answered, and it was the security personnel at the villa gate.
“Mr. Su? It seems your housemaid just fell on the downhill road…”
Before the security guard could finish speaking, Su Linyuan hung up the phone. He stood up, hurriedly grabbed his coat, and headed to the garage.
On the other end of the line, the security guard looked at the disconnected call and smirked. Rich people really are indifferent, he thought. He had just wanted to inform the employer about the young girl’s unfortunate fall, hoping they might let her stay for the night, but it seemed the employer didn’t care at all.
The security guard couldn’t leave his post, so he had to report the incident to Su Linyuan by phone. At that moment, he looked towards the spot where Jiang Xianyu had fallen, but she was no longer there. Instead, there was a green figure slowly moving ahead.
He was a bit stunned; the young girl was quite resilient, continuing to ride even after a fall. If Jiang Xianyu knew what he thought of her, she would surely say, “Isn’t this standard procedure?” For a worker, rain or snow doesn’t mean a day off. Drivers might have it easier, but if you fall while riding, the company won’t stop checking attendance. Who doesn’t get up and keep going?
The security guard had just finished his thoughts when he saw Su Linyuan’s car coming out. He glanced at the license plate; it was indeed Su Linyuan’s car. He saluted Su Linyuan’s car, realizing he had misjudged Mr. Su earlier. Mr. Su was a wealthy man with a heart.
In just a moment, Su Linyuan drove the hundred-meter distance. Seeing the person ahead riding slowly and unsteadily, he gently honked the horn. Then he saw the E-ride skid again and fall.
Lying in the snow, Jiang Xianyu looked bitterly in the direction of the honking. Was she cursed by cars? This was the second time she had fallen because of a car!
When she saw the man inside through the windshield, Jiang Xianyu silently looked away. Su Linyuan hadn’t expected his honk to cause Jiang Xianyu to fall. He hurriedly opened the car door and got out.
The snowy road was slippery, and in his haste, Su Linyuan didn’t have time to close the car door before he slipped and fell backward. His waist and back hit the car door’s bottom edge, causing him to gasp in pain. If he hadn’t instinctively grabbed the car door as he fell, the impact would have been much worse.
Jiang Xianyu, who had just climbed off the E-ride, looked on: “…”
She brushed the snow off herself and walked over to Su Linyuan. “Mr. Su, are you alright?”
Su Linyuan’s face alternated between pale and flushed. Internally, he was fuming; his image, pride, and dignity were all gone! How could he have ended up sprawled out in front of Jiang Xianyu when he was supposed to be rescuing her?
Jiang Xianyu watched Su Linyuan’s ever-changing expression with concern. She crouched down to check his lower back. “Can you move?” she asked, worried he might have injured his spine.
Su Linyuan reached out a hand, inhaling sharply, “I can move, just bumped it. Shouldn’t be any bone damage.”
Jiang Xianyu took his large hand and helped him stand, supporting him carefully. Seeing him holding his back, she asked worriedly, “Did you hit your tailbone?”
That area could be quite painful if injured.
Su Linyuan replied irritably, “Can you wish me well for once?”
Jiang Xianyu fell silent.
Su Linyuan glanced at her and muttered, “It’s not the tailbone.”
Relieved, Jiang Xianyu suggested, “Let me take you to the hospital.”
Su Linyuan immediately refused, “No need.”
Such an embarrassing incident, he definitely didn’t want to go to the hospital. Besides, after moving around a bit, he confirmed there was no serious injury, just a bruise.
Seeing him able to stand, Jiang Xianyu felt half-relieved. She offered, “I’ll drive you back.”
With that, she led him towards the passenger seat.
Su Linyuan didn’t move. He checked Jiang Xianyu over, brushing the snow off her shoulder. “What about you? Did you hurt yourself?”
Jiang Xianyu shook her head, “I was bundled up, and the snow cushioned the fall. You’re the one who got hurt.”
Su Linyuan looked down at the woman barely reaching his shoulder, extending his long arm to rest on her shoulder. “Then hold me steady.”
Jiang Xianyu felt the weight of a mountain on her shoulder, stumbling slightly, “You’re… you’re heavy…”
Su Linyuan replied, “I’m tall. Try being six foot three.”
Jiang Xianyu was silent for a moment, then felt the need to explain, “I’m only five foot three because I didn’t get enough nutrition growing up. Otherwise, I might have been taller.”
Su Linyuan, looking at the young girl tucked under his arm, murmured, “Did you have a tough childhood?”
Jiang Xianyu stiffened momentarily, then resumed helping him forward, “It was okay.”
Su Linyuan’s gaze fell on her lowered eyelashes. Seeing she didn’t intend to elaborate, he stayed quiet too.
Once she settled him in the passenger seat, Jiang Xianyu took off her scarf and wrapped it around his neck. She had noticed his hands were cold when she helped him.
“You should’ve worn a down jacket instead of a coat without buttoning it.”
The warmth of the scarf, heated by Jiang Xianyu, spread to Su Linyuan’s cold neck, making his face flush with warmth.
Listening to Jiang Xianyu’s gentle nagging, Su Linyuan tried to maintain his composure, “You were the one who insisted on leaving despite my offer to stay the night. If the guard hadn’t told me you fell, I wouldn’t have had to drive out to find you.”
Speaking of driving, Su Linyuan was curious, “Can you drive?”
“Of course I can.”
Su Linyuan said, “You should’ve mentioned it earlier. You could’ve driven my car back.”
Jiang Xianyu refused. Su Linyuan’s cars were all sports cars, and even the ones that weren’t looked incredibly expensive. Parking one at Jinxiu Garden would definitely draw a crowd. If she scratched or dented it, she couldn’t afford to pay for it.
“Your car is too expensive. I’m afraid I can’t afford to compensate.”
Su Linyuan was exasperated.
“If there’s an issue, the insurance company covers it. You don’t have to pay.”
“Still, no.”
Su Linyuan turned away, unwilling to continue the conversation.
Jiang Xianyu got into the driver’s seat, looking at her E-ride lying by the roadside, feeling a bit conflicted.
Seeing the car hadn’t started, Su Linyuan glanced at her and noticed she was staring at the E-ride in a daze. He said, “Drive back to the villa first. I’ll have the property management send your ride over.”
Jiang Xianyu felt reassured, “Thank you, Mr. Su.”
