Fox's Charm, Heart's Chaos - Chapter 8 - The Celestial Lord is Injured 1
Life was extremely pleasant, and Wan Mimi had even gained a few pounds. There was no way around it; if you spent all day eating and sleeping while enjoying good food, you would likely gain weight too.
However, Wan Mimi didn’t mind much, as this body was too thin, and gaining a little weight was just right. Lord Loulan had also mentioned that looking a bit plumper made her complexion much rosier, which was more attractive.
In moments like these, Wan Mimi wished she could continue living this way forever. However, it seemed she had overlooked a very important issue: given her identity, it was simply impossible for her to obtain lasting peace. Even this fleeting comfort was hard to come by.
Although life was pretty enjoyable, there were no computers, no phones, no television, and not even a single theatrical performance around. It was quite boring, and Wan Mimi strongly requested some books to read.
Upon hearing Wan Mimi express her desire for books, Lord Loulan immediately had someone bring in a huge stack of them, all those old-fashioned paperbound books that were about half an inch thick.
Wan Mimi approached to take a look-oh my!
Were books like “Three Obediences and Four Virtues,” “Ritual, Righteousness, Integrity, and Shame,” and “Virtue of Women” really meant to be read by people?
Since they had been delivered, Wan Mimi couldn’t just send them back, could she? She picked one up to read, but found it so dull that she fell asleep. In the middle of the night, feeling a bit chilly, she noticed that the oil lamp was still lit, and the only way to keep warm here seemed to be those books.
The next day, when Lord Loulan asked if she liked the books, Wan Mimi sincerely replied that she did; they were very useful, and she had finished them all in one night, so she needed some more for the next day!
They truly were useful. If it were wooden sticks or something, Wan Mimi might not have managed to light them just with that oil lamp, but with the paper? As soon as it got close, the flame ignited immediately, and with such a huge pile of books, they burned for quite a while, making the room especially warm at night.
When Lord Loulan heard Wan Mimi say the books were useful, he didn’t think much of it and was rather pleased that she liked them. However, when he walked into Wan Mimi’s room later and saw a large pile of ashes on the floor along with some unburned scraps of paper, he finally understood what she meant by “useful.”
Lord Loulan finally realized that the books he had gotten for Wan Mimi were nothing more than fuel for the fire in her eyes. So, he simply placed several heaters in Wan Mimi’s room, fearing that she might find something to burn. However, it was unlikely that he would criticize Wan Mimi; after all, she was quite skilled at avoiding responsibility and knew that pouting at Lord Loulan was the best way to get her way. As a result, Lord Loulan eventually, under Wan Mimi’s strong insistence, acquired many banned books.
In Wan Mimi’s eyes, these banned books were hardly worth banning; their suggestiveness was barely noticeable. Such novels, if placed in modern times, would simply be considered ordinary romance novels, the kind that middle school students read, ones that adults would hardly find appealing.
However, in this era, books like these were classified as erotic novels.
With something to occupy her time, Wan Mimi finally stopped pestering Lord Loulan. He suddenly found himself unaccustomed to her absence and felt a strange, inexplicable sense of loss. This feeling left Lord Loulan unable to eat for several days and restless at night, constantly thinking about how he could convince Wan Mimi to throw away those books and redirect her attention to him.
Sigh!
Time seemed to pass particularly slowly. After being an immortal for so many years, it was the first time Lord Loulan felt that the nights were exceptionally long.
So, when Wan Mimi woke up, she saw a handsome face magnified before hers. At that moment, she thought she was dreaming, and emboldened by the fantasy, she leaned in and kissed him, her hand mischievously slipping under his shirt.
Lord Loulan was taken aback for a moment but then smiled and kissed her back.
By the time Wan Mimi realized that what she was doing was not a dream, both of them were kissing, their faces flushed and breaths uneven.
Embarrassed, she pulled away, leaving a teasing silver thread of intimacy between them.
Wan Mimi thought, since I’ve already kissed him, it wouldn’t hurt to touch a little more, so her hand, still resting inside Lord Loulan’s shirt, moved restlessly a few times.
Before things could get out of control, Lord Loulan grasped Wan Mimi’s hand, only to hear her praise the elasticity of his muscles; indeed, she was quite the enchantress.
In recent days, Lord Loulan has been closely observing the movements of Lion King Chong Jian and Devil King Xilaphiel. Wan Mimi has been living here for several days now, and it is likely that they have already discovered her whereabouts. However, it wouldn’t make sense for them to rush in without considering the consequences. As a celestial being himself, provoking Lord Loulan could spark a conflict with the celestial court, so if they were to come, it would need to be in a way that “accidentally” alerted the celestial court. This way, the blame wouldn’t fall on them but rather on Lord Loulan’s own actions.
Initially, it was hoped that this somewhat confused fox could stay here a little longer, but it seems she was discovered sooner than expected.
During this time, Wan Mimi had not gone out; it wasn’t that she didn’t want to, but Lord Loulan had not allowed her to. It could be that he himself exposed a flaw, leading her to be found.
Perhaps it was during her last conversation with the flame spirit king that she was overheard. The celestial court is essentially a gathering place for enlightened immortals, and both Lion King Chong Jian and Devil King Xilaphiel must have spies there, so it’s only natural that they would find out. The only blame lies with her for not being vigilant at that moment.
It’s a pity, as Wan Mimi had hoped to live peacefully here for a while, but now it seems that will no longer be possible.
…
Wan Mimi is moving out, as Lord Loulan has informed her that Lion King Chong Jian and Devil King Xilaphiel have discovered their location and are likely to come soon.
Wan Mimi feels regret; this place has beautiful scenery, fresh air, and is far away from the hustle and bustle, not to mention the endless novels-truly a happy place. However, it seems she won’t be able to return for the time being.
She packed a few books to take along, thinking they might come in handy, and then grabbed several outfits, as she still cannot conjure clothes for herself and can’t just wear the same outfit all the time.
Taking a last look at the house, Wan Mimi left reluctantly.
Lord Loulan, sensing Wan Mimi’s lingering gaze, felt a pang of sadness. However, thinking of the potential harm she might face from those two, he steeled himself and urged her to leave quickly.
This was the longest Wan Mimi had stayed in one place since arriving in this world. Her feelings toward this place had grown deep-it felt like home. More than that, it was the first place where she was truly welcomed, free from harm and pursuit. To Wan Mimi, it was a utopia, untouched by the chaos of the outside world. But sadly, it was time to leave.
If someone asked Wan Mimi to give up everything and simply live as a little servant here, she might actually agree without hesitation.
A millennium spirit fox-an existence so ancient yet so forgotten that even her name was unknown. Or maybe, she did have a name, but no one had ever cared enough to know it.
When Wan Mimi told Lord Loulan to call her “Wan Mimi,” he smiled warmly and said, “Your name is as adorable as you are. Wan Mimi!”
And just like that, for the first time in this world, Wan Mimi heard someone call her name.
Lord Loulan smiled at her again and said gently, “Let’s go.”
Before she knew it, her own body was hovering steadily in midair.
Lord Loulan carried Wan Mimi as he flew forward, their journey taking them over countless villages, towns, mountain ranges, and winding rivers below.
This was Wan Mimi’s first glimpse of the human realm. She remembered Lord Loulan mentioning that the place she had been staying was already part of the human realm, yet she had never felt the presence of people there. Now, as she gazed below, she could sense the familiar traces of human life-life that carried the same essence as her own past self.
Lord Loulan noticed the yearning in Wan Mimi’s eyes and felt an ache in his heart. If only he could let her descend and explore freely. But the moment she set foot in one of those towns, it wouldn’t be more than a quarter of an hour before Chong Jian, the Lion King, and Xilaphiel, the Devil King, caught her scent and came after her.
A streak of black energy suddenly shot toward them from behind-it was Xilaphiel!
Lord Loulan managed to narrowly avoid the attack, only for Chong Jian to appear right in their path. There was no time to flee, no room to maneuver. They had no choice but to brace themselves for a frantic fight.
