Fox's Charm, Heart's Chaos - Chapter 7 - Escape from the Devil's Palace 2
“Looks like you’re recovering well. However, within a year, your spiritual power probably won’t be restored. You’d best stay quietly in one place for a year. Otherwise, if something happens again, you might never recover your powers.”
Lord Loulan kindly advised the millennium spirit fox, only to see that the other party didn’t seem to care at all.
“What’s the big deal about this so-called spiritual power? Does it even matter whether it gets restored or not?”
As soon as Wan Mimi spoke, she realized how ignorant she sounded, judging by the “How could you not know this?” expression on Lord Loulan’s face.
“Uh… well, can I at least regain my human form? This appearance is really not appealing!”
No matter what, it seemed better to transform back. Wandering around with a fox face felt awkward.
“Heh…” The handsome Lord Loulan scanned Wan Mimi’s body up and down, almost like ironing her with intense heat. Wan Mimi soon felt herself changing back into her human form-her hands, her arms.
Suddenly, she noticed that her skin looked quite good-soft, pale, delicate, and smooth… Wait, her skin!
“Ahhh!!!!”
Wan Mimi hastily pulled up the blanket and covered herself to hide her bare body. It didn’t matter if the other person was a good-looking man, there was no way she’d let him see her unclothed like this!
“Uh… haha… umm, could you perhaps get me something to wear? It’s really not appropriate to be seen like this,” she said nervously.
Lord Loulan, watching the flustered fox, couldn’t help but chuckle. After laughing for a while, he finally said, “It’s not that I’m intentionally keeping you naked. It’s just that, as a spirit fox and not a human, you can only wear clothes you magically conjure yourself. Otherwise, you’d have to settle for human garments.”
Wan Mimi frowned, clutching the blanket tightly, her big, pleading eyes staring at Lord Loulan as she said, “Then… can you please find me something to wear?”
Lord Loulan shook his head and replied, “I’m afraid I don’t have any garments here.”
Speechless, Wan Mimi thought to herself, No clothes?! I might as well stay a fox then.
Seeing Wan Mimi pout with her head down, Lord Loulan found her adorable and unexpectedly offered, “I can have someone purchase some clothes for you. However, you’ll need to stay here until your injuries heal. Once recovered, you’re free to go wherever you like.”
After finishing his words, Lord Loulan turned to leave. Wan Mimi suddenly remembered that she hadn’t asked the name of her benefactor.
“Wait-may I ask, what’s your name?”
Lord Loulan turned back with a slight smile and said, “Ha… You can just call me Lord Loulan.”
Wan Mimi watched Lord Loulan’s departing figure and thought to herself, This Lord Loulan seems like a good person. Maybe I should just stay here for now. After all, it’s better than being in some other place where people are always scheming against me.
Taking advantage of Lord Loulan’s absence, Wan Mimi decided to inspect the room she was staying in.
Hmm, not bad at all.
The room was decorated in soft, pale tones: light-colored bed drapes, bamboo furniture, a simple ceramic teapot, and white paper windows. It exuded a refreshing and tranquil atmosphere.
Additionally, many of the furnishings were made of bamboo-not at all extravagant or ostentatious. This made Wan Mimi think that the owner of the house wasn’t someone who pursued wealth or fame.
On the table, there was tea and some pastries. Feeling hungry, Wan Mimi grabbed a piece and ate it. Lightly fragranced with osmanthus, the pastry tasted delightful.
I kind of like it here, Wan Mimi thought.
If I could stay here indefinitely, that wouldn’t be so bad. Besides, if I ever wanted to leave, who could really stop me? I am, after all, from the 21st century! I should have some of the boldness and wit of a modern woman. Feeling like a clueless newbie all the time is just too frustrating.
And so, Wan Mimi temporarily decided to stay at Lord Loulan’s residence in the mortal world. However, there was a formation set up around the property, making it impossible for her to leave at the moment.
Not long after Wan Mimi’s escape, the devil king Xilaphiel caught wind of the news. He ordered his subordinates to investigate, but they couldn’t find anything. All they knew was that the northern gate had been unlocked with blood, and that Wan Mimi seemed to have sustained severe injuries during her escape.
In a fit of rage, Xilaphiel confined the young devil girl who had been guarding the millennium spirit fox to the torture chamber. The devil clan’s torture chambers were unlike those of humans. Instead of causing death or draining spiritual power, they inflicted agony so excruciating that life felt worse than death.
Xilaphiel continued to send people to track down Wan Mimi, but no trace could be found-only an abandoned tree hollow where she had briefly stayed.
Xilaphiel personally visited the tree hollow, finding traces of Wan Mimi’s blood inside. Judging by the amount of blood left behind, her injuries were indeed severe. But with such heavy injuries, where could she possibly have gone?
Crossing the northern gate would have not only caused physical pain but also resulted in a severe loss of spiritual power. Even if they were to locate her now, she would need at least one or two years to recover before he could consummate with her and obtain that hundredfold spiritual power boost he so desired.
At the same time, the lion king Chong Jian was also searching for the millennium spirit fox. To him, having the millennium spirit fox escape was actually much better than leaving her in the devil’s palace. If she were to remain there, trying to obtain her would require endless scheming and risky maneuvers. However, if she was out in the open, beyond the domains of any particular clan, she would become fair game for everyone to fight over. Chong Jian firmly believed that since he’d managed to capture her once, he could certainly do it again.
Unfortunately, no matter how much effort he or his subordinates put into the search, they couldn’t find any trace of the millennium spirit fox. It was as if she had vanished into thin air. He, too, had gone to inspect that tree hollow, only to find a large pool of blood but no sign of the fox. Could it be that someone had rescued her? More importantly, how had she sustained such serious injuries?
During the offering ceremony, the millennium spirit fox had only suffered some minor internal injuries. Her spiritual power hadn’t taken much of a hit back then. But now… judging by the blood loss, it was likely even her spiritual power was severely depleted.
Even if the devil king Xilaphiel were to find her, it would take some time for her to recover, rendering her temporarily useless. Since that was the case, Chong Jian decided he wasn’t in a hurry. He left the search efforts primarily to Xilaphiel, assigning one of his insignificant subordinates to secretly follow Xilaphiel’s people. If there was any progress, he would be informed.
While Xilaphiel and Chong Jian were painstakingly hunting for the millennium spirit fox, Wan Mimi was enjoying her time in Lord Loulan’s residence. Watching a handsome man, relishing delicious food, and admiring breathtaking scenery-all in all, she was leading a very comfortable life.
The only downside? This wasn’t the 21st century. If it were, Wan Mimi would’ve immediately opened her laptop to document everything that had happened. Who knew-maybe she could even become a famous novelist.
She reached for the last piece of osmanthus cake on her plate. Before she had the chance to lament her now-empty plate, a servant girl by her side promptly replaced it with another dish. Wan Mimi glanced over and saw-roast chicken?
Her inner fox awakened instantly. She had to admit, as a fox now, roast chicken was her ultimate favorite food. It was funny, really-thinking back to her previous life as a vegetarian, she never even spared meats like chicken or fish a second glance. Now, as a fox living off someone else’s generosity, she could finally indulge in food like this.
The thought of how far she had fallen stirred a bittersweet feeling in her. Being a fox just wasn’t as great as being human. Even as a highly sought-after millennium spirit fox, she still had no real home, and her days were often uncertain, running from one place to the next.
With a small knife from the plate, Wan Mimi carefully sliced the chicken bit by bit, placing each piece into her mouth.
Mmm~~! This is so delicious. Absolutely the most delicious thing!
Every bite was pure joy. It turned out, no matter what happened, food could still uplift her spirits. At least for now, she decided to savor the moment.
But why was it that back when she was still human, she found chicken and other meats utterly disgusting? It seemed that a fox’s taste buds were different from a human’s. And true to her nature as a fox, Wan Mimi now loved chicken more than anything.
Lord Loulan watched the millennium spirit fox sitting next to him, eating nonstop. Her tiny mouth opened and closed rhythmically-it was adorable. Even as she chewed, her ears twitched slightly with every bite, as if inviting someone to reach out and touch them.
When Wan Mimi turned her head suddenly, she saw Lord Loulan watching her with narrowed eyes, a particularly enticing expression on his face.
Without realizing it, her instinct took over. Wan Mimi didn’t even think about the chicken still in her mouth and leaned forward to kiss him-right on the lips.
Lord Loulan froze for a moment. Being kissed wasn’t an issue, especially by such a beautiful and irresistibly cute millennium spirit fox. But the problem was undeniable: she still had greasy food in her mouth! He didn’t need to taste it to know what it was.
Realizing her mistake mid-kiss, Wan Mimi quickly retracted her tongue just as it had entered Lord Loulan’s mouth. However, she might have inadvertently left something behind.
Soon, Lord Loulan jumped to his feet and rushed over to the nearby water basin, coughing and spitting furiously.
True to his image, even while spitting, Lord Loulan managed to look graceful and charming, exuding a sense of refinement and personality.
When Lord Loulan returned, Wan Mimi had already fallen asleep.
Technically speaking, being a fox, Wan Mimi didn’t need to sleep unless she lost consciousness. However, her prior life as a human had fostered a strange obsession with sleeping. She enjoyed the peace it brought and would seize any opportunity to rest. Now that she was a fox, it was no different. Besides, it wasn’t like there was much else to do at Lord Loulan’s residence-it was incredibly boring. Sleeping was her best option, and she always felt refreshed afterward.
The weather here was perpetually pleasant, apart from one torrential downpour Wan Mimi had experienced earlier. Aside from that storm, the skies had remained clear. Wan Mimi had even asked Lord Loulan about this once, but the moment she saw his silent glare of disdain, she knew she had asked something embarrassingly obvious. Clearly, everyone else must have already known the answer. Wan Mimi was determined to educate herself further about the local climate and spiritual power so that she wouldn’t continue to embarrass herself.
The warm weather made Wan Mimi feel drowsy, and she dozed off in a chair under the gentle sunlight. Lord Loulan sat beside her, observing her peacefully sleeping figure. In his eyes, the calm and resting millennium spirit fox was even more charming than when she was eating, twitching her ears, or being cheekily flirty.
His gaze fell on Wan Mimi’s lips-soft, plump, and irresistibly pink. Feeling a sudden dryness in his throat, Lord Loulan impulsively leaned in. He planted a gentle kiss on her lips, nibbling lightly, savoring the sweetness of her delicate lips. He wanted to deepen the kiss, to explore further, but he restrained himself, fearing he would wake this adorable, fragile little being who had unknowingly captivated his heart.
