Fox's Charm, Heart's Chaos - Chapter 6 - Escape from the Devil's Palace 1
There was fighting outside. The two kings were locked in combat, and everyone seemed to have gone to watch the battle. No one was paying any attention to her. For now, the devil’s palace was practically deserted. Wan Mimi grabbed all the snacks from the table and hurriedly made her escape.
But honestly, this palace was ridiculously huge. Wan Mimi kept walking straight in one direction, continuing for what felt like ages, yet she still couldn’t find the edge of the palace.
Then, it seemed like the devil king had returned. Wan Mimi occasionally spotted someone passing by, but they acted as though they couldn’t see her at all.
Thanks to her enhanced hearing-far superior to that of humans-Wan Mimi could pick up the sound of someone’s breathing from several kilometers away. Whenever she heard a noise, she froze in place, quickly holding her breath.
She ran and ran, and finally, she found the edge of the palace.
It was a wall. Wan Mimi was absolutely certain about it. She couldn’t see the wall, but she could feel it.
Beyond the transparent wall was a forest-a terrifying-looking forest. But all things considered, it was far better than staying here.
So, how was she going to get out?
Maybe she should try blood? She remembered that in TV dramas and novels, whenever characters encountered obstacles, using blood often worked. It was worth a shot.
Summoning her determination, she bit down hard on her finger, breaking the skin. She pressed her bleeding finger against the transparent wall, and immediately, a powerful suction pulled her through.
It felt like her internal organs were being crushed. The pressure was unbearable.
Her body was squeezed violently by something, and she could clearly hear the sound of her bones cracking. She could even feel the sharp pain as fractured bones slowly pierced into her flesh.
It hurt-hurt more than anything she had ever experienced.
Her body seemed to be moving forward, but the pressure gradually began to lessen. As the tension in her body started to ease, Wan Mimi found herself so exhausted that she nearly passed out. But the thought of her goal kept her going; she clenched her teeth and endured.
Just as she stood up, she coughed up a mouthful of blood. Her vision went dark, and she collapsed unconscious.
When she opened her eyes again, Wan Mimi found herself lying in the same spot. She hadn’t even checked her surroundings after escaping earlier, but now, as she looked around, she realized the forest outside wasn’t quite what she’d thought before.
This was a rough, desolate forest, filled with waist-high weeds and brambles that blocked her way forward. There was no clear path, and escaping through here would be no easy task.
Thinking about how long she had been unconscious, Wan Mimi realized she might not have much time left if her pursuers had already noticed her escape. Therefore, she decided that regardless of the thorns, she had to fly over them.
Wan Mimi wished she could just fly away, but alas, today of all days, she couldn’t manage to lift off no matter how urgently she tried.
Wrapping her hands with her clothes, she brushed aside the thorns and carefully made her way through. Gradually, she grew accustomed to the sting of the thorns until she didn’t mind them at all and just charged through, numb to the pain.
She couldn’t remember exactly when she had burst through the thicket, but she knew she had kept running forward until she collapsed.
When she woke up again, she had transformed back into her fluffy form, and oddly enough, it had started to rain heavily.
Decisively, she continued to run forward.
The body of a fox proved much more agile than that of a human. Even though it was raining and the path was muddy, she never slipped. However, the feeling of her wet fur sticking to her body was far from pleasant.
Ahead, Wan Mimi spotted a tree hollow and quickly took shelter.
The hollow was bitterly cold, but at least the rain couldn’t reach her there.
The food she had stashed in her clothes was now gone. Transformed into a fox, she had no idea when she had lost it.
Hungry and cold, she recalled novels where characters could survive without food by circulating their internal energy. Now, as a fox without clothes and soaking wet, she also had to deal with severe injuries. In her haste to escape, she hadn’t noticed them, but now that she had stopped, the pain was unbearable.
Her body felt as if it had been meticulously disassembled and then haphazardly reassembled, not quite correctly. Her organs seemed shattered and misplaced, and several spots on her forepaws-her arms, that is-ached, possibly indicating fractures.
Suddenly, a pair of feet appeared outside the tree hollow. Wan Mimi, who had intended to rest a while, realized she might not be able to sleep after all. Perhaps she would even have to flee again.
Lord Loulan, having heard that the Flame Spirit King had recently failed to kill a Millennium Spirit Fox, had come down from his abode on a whim to see for himself. And here, before even reaching the Devil’s Palace, he had stumbled upon her.
The fox was truly foolish; did it really think hiding in a tree hole would prevent anyone from discovering it? The millennium spirit fox was indeed nothing more than a myth? Otherwise, how could it be so careless, failing to conceal its own aura? It even had blood, clearly fresh and running, smeared outside, almost inviting others to find its hiding place.
Wan Mimi was close to her limit, yet the person outside neither came to catch her nor chose to leave. They must have noticed her, but were they there to seize her? In any case, since they refused to depart, they must not be a good person. Even if they wouldn’t kill her, they certainly wouldn’t save her.
As her eyelids grew heavier and the pain in her body became unbearable, Wan Mimi finally succumbed and fainted. Just before losing consciousness, her last thought was: why did she always seem to pass out?
When she woke up, her first thought was, how many times had she awakened after fainting this way?
Of course, the answer was that it was too many to count.
The first person she saw was not a maid, but a gentle-looking man dressed in white. His hair was loosely tied back with a band, cascading down his back, with a few strands falling forward onto his chest, giving him the appearance of a carefree scholar.
Wan Mimi’s immediate reaction was, ah, another handsome guy, and then, unfortunately, drool began to drip from her mouth.
The handsome man leaned down, and it provided Wan Mimi with an opportunity; her fox paw reached out lustfully to touch his face. After taking advantage of the situation, she leaned in and licked his cheek.
Lord Loulan looked at the millennium spirit fox, now displaying such a seductive demeanor, still maintaining its fox form, yet could express such boldness. It truly was a lewd fox.
However, it was rare to find such audacious women, even in the demon realm.
