Fox's Charm, Heart's Chaos - Chapter 2 - Always Running 2
The elder white lion struggled to pull back the millennium spirit fox, which soared higher and higher, farther and farther, faster and faster. The blue gemstone embedded at the tip of his staff emitted a dazzling blue light, forcing everyone to shut their eyes. Yet, the millennium spirit fox had already vanished without a trace.
The flame spirit king quietly departed from the scene, transforming into a white mist that dissipated into the air.
Wan Mimi, whose body was hosting the millennium spirit fox, was simultaneously pulled upward by one force and downward by another. However, the downward force was no match for the upward one, so Wan Mimi continued to speedily drift upward.
Her body was racked with searing pain from the tugging forces, but her mind grew increasingly clear. Wan Mimi couldn’t help but marvel at the strange nature of her constitution.
The dizziness she had been feeling abruptly disappeared, replaced by an overwhelming sensation of her body and soul merging into one.
Wan Mimi had no idea where she was heading, and though she still had no control over her body, she began to sense that the power controlling her had changed from what it was before.
At least the excruciating pain tearing at her body was gone, and the constant haze had lifted. However, the unnerving feeling of floating with nothing to hold onto-like being carried away by the wind into the sky-was far from comfortable. She couldn’t help but worry whether she would suddenly fall and end up splattered on the ground.
Having already lost one body, she wasn’t eager to relive the experience of death. Even though her current form was just a furry animal, it was at least alive and intact. She absolutely didn’t want to go through that again.
Suddenly, from afar, a black shadow floated into view. It looked like-someone!
Wan Mimi widened her eyes, staring at the figure with envy. Both were flying, but while she was “being flown” in constant anxiety, this person was gliding effortlessly and elegantly. Clearly, they were on entirely different levels.
The black figure approached closer and closer. Towering at about 6’3″ (190 cm), the person’s lean but not frail physique was draped in flowing black attire that billowed in the air. His left hand hovered near his abdomen, his right hand tucked behind his back, exuding an aura akin to a scholar. As her gaze traveled upward to his face-oh my! What a heavenly visage! Fine, elongated brows; sharp nose; delicate lips; and smooth, soft facial contours with just a touch of masculine refinement. His jet-black hair was tied high atop his head, with a few strands falling delicately across his forehead, fluttering in the wind.
Such a stunning man would have been impossible to encounter in her previous lifetime.
Wan Mimi realized her drool had already trickled down her cheek and was continuing its downward journey.
The man didn’t move, but Wan Mimi could feel it-he was the one controlling her. But was he here to save her? Or to snatch her away?
Recalling that terrifying sensation of being caught between life and death, Wan Mimi almost thought it might have been better to just die outright.
The man’s brows furrowed slightly, and without a word, Wan Mimi’s body began to descend. Her hair floated upward around her ears, and the hem of her white robe flapped audibly in the wind… Wait, hair? Robe?
Wan Mimi raised one of her paws… and burst into laughter. As expected, her paw had transformed into a slender and delicate hand.
Looking more closely, the hand before her was even more exquisite than the ones she had painstakingly maintained in her previous life. The skin was as smooth as jade, her fingers long and slender, soft with no visible joints. Truly, these hands were masterpieces.
As Wan Mimi admired her hands with delighted laughter, a sudden realization struck her. She was falling!
Oh no, after flying for so long she must be impossibly high up. If she hit the ground now, gravity would certainly ensure she ended up as nothing more than a pancake!
What to do? What to do?!
Just then, the restriction on her body was lifted, and Wan Mimi could finally move. But at the same time, she could only watch helplessly as she plummeted to what seemed like certain death.
The flame spirit king watched the millennium spirit fox hurtling downward, his eyes narrowing into slits, brows knitted tightly together, his gaze sharp and focused.
This millennium spirit fox was nothing but trouble. Only her death could bring peace back to the six realms.
Suddenly, the flame spirit king’s eyes snapped wide open. He lunged toward the falling millennium spirit fox, his hands moving swiftly. A blue energy sphere materialized in his palm and shot directly at the now-unbound spirit fox.
Wan Mimi had just closed her eyes, resigned to her fate, when she saw that black-clad man rushing toward her. At the same time, she noticed the blue energy sphere hurtling her way. Startled, Wan Mimi instinctively twisted her waist and retaliated with a white energy sphere from her right hand. The two spheres collided, generating a massive explosion that almost shattered her eardrums.
She had no idea how she’d done it. Everything seemed to happen naturally, without her even having time to think. But before she could process it all, she saw the flame spirit king send out a barrage of over ten energy spheres straight at her.
Wan Mimi quickly stabilized herself midair, twisting and turning in evasive maneuvers to avoid the incoming blasts. She darted toward an area with dense foliage below, hoping to lose her pursuer.
She had no idea what she was doing, but one thing was clear-whoever was behind her wanted her dead. And that white lion divine clan from before? They probably wanted her dead too. It didn’t matter who it was; the priority now was to run for her life.
Her ornate, flowy garments kept snagging on branches as she moved. Frustrated, Wan Mimi thought about tearing them off, but just as the thought crossed her mind, the clothing morphed into a simpler, shorter style that was much more practical.
Finally, seeing that the black-clad man was no longer in sight, Wan Mimi let herself relax. Only then did she realize how utterly exhausted she was. Even though she had ducked into the forest, she was still inexplicably floating in the air. But just as this thought crossed her mind, there was a resounding “thud,” and she crashed straight to the ground.
Standing up and rubbing her sore backside, Wan Mimi glanced down at herself. Her clothing had reverted to its previous elaborate style, and her long hair cascaded down her back and shoulders, inconvenient as ever.
She wandered slowly, searching for a secluded spot to hide. Finally settling down, she panted heavily and tried to piece together everything that had just happened. It still felt like a dream.
Clamping her fingers around a bit of her skin, she pinched hard.
“Ouch!” It hurt!
