Fox's Charm, Heart's Chaos - Chapter 11 - Using Blood as Medicine 2
Looking at Lord Loulan on the bed, Wan Mimi thought to herself that perhaps she didn’t need to look for anyone else; she could solve these problems herself.
If nothing were done about Lord Loulan’s condition, he would likely die soon. It was just a drop of blood, after all; it couldn’t be that serious.
Thinking about how long it took her to remember that she had this capability, Wan Mimi felt foolish. How could she have overlooked something so important until now?
Sigh!
If she had thought of it earlier, would Lord Loulan have woken up by now? Would he still be smiling at her with that radiant grin, ready to fulfill any request she made of him?
But now, could this blood be taken directly? Did it need something like a catalyst? Furthermore, after drinking it, would she need to use any spiritual power to guide it? Wan Mimi didn’t know and couldn’t figure it out.
What if she took the risk and drank it, yet Lord Loulan not only remained unwell but something terrible happened? What then?
Right now, it was troubling either way-whether to save him or not.
But looking at Lord Loulan on the bed, his body had shrunk to that of a twelve or thirteen-year-old child. At this rate, if no help came, he wouldn’t last much longer. Even if her blood didn’t end up killing him, he would surely die anyway.
Forget it. Death was the same whether it came early or late. Drinking might offer some hope; if she didn’t, it would be like waiting to die.
With that thought, Wan Mimi stretched out her arm, bit down hard with her teeth, and blood oozed from the wound.
Not knowing how much blood Lord Loulan needed, Wan Mimi decided to keep giving him her blood, thinking it would be fine as long as he woke up.
However, she forgot that if he needed more blood than she had in her body, wouldn’t she end up drained, leaving him without a chance of being saved?
Gradually, the dizziness from blood loss began to take hold, and her strength started to ebb away.
Wan Mimi looked at Lord Loulan and saw no signs of him waking up. Yet, the flow of blood from her wrist was slowing down.
Deciding to be resolute, Wan Mimi bit down again on her wrist, letting more blood flow out before quickly bringing it to Lord Loulan’s lips.
Wan Mimi had no idea when she passed out, but when she woke up, it was nighttime, and the wound on her wrist had already been bandaged. The place she had been sleeping appeared to be Lord Loulan’s bed, as there were marks of dried blood on the edge, as if left there a long time ago. However, it could also have been her own bed-it looked identical, and the bloodstains might have been left when she returned here.
As she struggled to sit up, the world spun around her. Clearly, she was still suffering from blood loss.
There was no one near the bed. Wan Mimi wanted to drink some water but couldn’t figure out how to reach the kettle that was about a meter or so away from the edge of the bed.
After trying unsuccessfully a few times, she gave up and lay back down.
Still feeling drowsy, Wan Mimi tried hard to recall whether Lord Loulan had woken up or not during that critical moment. She searched through her memory again and again but found no answer, though she stubbornly refused to give up.
Her brows furrowed tightly, her eyes closed, and her eyelashes trembled faintly.
If one were to lift the blanket, they would see that Wan Mimi’s fingernails had already dug into her palms. Fresh blood trickled out, staining the light-colored bedsheet beneath her.
This was the sight that greeted Lord Loulan as he walked in.
Thinking Wan Mimi was having a nightmare, he immediately rushed to the bed and pulled her into his arms. Lowering his head to check, he saw her wide-open eyes staring back at him. So, she was awake all along.
Wan Mimi could hardly believe her own eyes. Lord Loulan was alive-alive and sitting right in front of her. The skin-to-skin contact between them was warm, and the strong, steady rhythm of his heartbeat echoed clearly in her ears.
This was real-this was really real!
A smile bloomed across Wan Mimi’s face.
Seeing Wan Mimi’s radiant smile, Lord Loulan finally released a long-held breath of relief and smiled warmly in return.
For the first time, Wan Mimi felt genuinely proud of herself.
She had successfully saved someone’s life-a life that belonged to none other than Lord Loulan, the person who had helped her countless times before.
The two of them sat on the bed, gazing at each other and laughing together for a long, long time, as if they were making up for all the moments they hadn’t laughed together before.
Lord Loulan’s gaze accidentally fell on the crimson marks left by Wan Mimi’s fingernails on her palms, as well as the bandage on her wrist, still faintly stained with blood. His smile abruptly faded.
Just as Wan Mimi was about to ask what was wrong, she heard Lord Loulan say, “You’re such a fool!”
Wan Mimi grinned and replied, “Really? I thought I was finally being clever for once!”
“You’re a fool. Otherwise, why would you go this far and sacrifice yourself for me?” As he spoke, Lord Loulan gently took Wan Mimi’s hand and placed a soft, meticulous kiss on each wound, leaving no spot untouched.
The slightly ticklish sensation from her palm made Wan Mimi feel a little embarrassed, and before she could help it, she let out a small laugh.
