Fox's Charm, Heart's Chaos - Chapter 1 - Always Running 1
Wan Mimi woke to find herself in a perplexingly complex situation. Lying in a strangely elevated place, she glanced around and noticed something even stranger.
It was clear that she was lying very high up, because when Wan Mimi turned her head, she could see many people kneeling below her, shouting praises to the “lion king.” Surrounded by what appeared to be fully grown lions, she thought, “Thank goodness I’m up high, or else I might have been their dinner.” However, why weren’t the people below afraid of these lions?
And who is the lion king?
Wan Mimi was certain she wasn’t any lion king, as she seemed to be fixed in place; she could move her hands and head, but her body was immobilized. Surely, a lion king wouldn’t receive such a “special” treatment?
Attempting to raise her hand to understand what had happened after her car accident and why she ended up here, she felt an awkward, painful stiffness, but she managed it.
“Ah!!!”
Why?
Why did her delicate fingers now look like fluffy paws? Wan Mimi felt like fainting.
Could this be a nightmare?
She bit her tongue hard.
Ouch! That really hurt!
It must be transmigration! What else could explain this situation?
Oh! When other people transmigrate, they turn into princes or princesses, so why had she turned into a miserable, fluffy… something?
Wan Mimi was no longer calm, frantically waving her arms… er… forelegs and hindlegs. She just couldn’t stay still!
Once Wan Mimi calmed down, the people below had started chanting something.
“…Today, we present the millennium spirit fox to our lord, the lion king, so that he may gain a hundredfold in strength, revitalize our White Lion Divine Clan, and achieve independence from the control of the Heaven Realm…”
Wan Mimi couldn’t bear to listen any longer.
It looked like she was tied to an altar. What were these people planning? To offer her to the lion king? What was the White Lion Divine Clan? Was she the millennium spirit fox? Then why would offering her to the lion king grant him a hundredfold in strength? Were they going to eat her? Or was there some other, more horrific method involved, like using her in an alchemy furnace for forty-nine days to turn her into a pill or something?
Oh no! Oh heavens, she’d rather just die already!
The people below chanted something again, and suddenly, Wan Mimi’s body began to float up into the air. She started spinning-round and round-to the point where her head was beginning to feel dizzy.
Wan Mimi thought to herself, At least they could flip me right-side up! I’m gonna hurl! If I puke, it’s only going to end up all over my own face!
At first, she rotated slowly, but then, the spinning got faster and faster-until Wan Mimi couldn’t hold it in anymore. With a loud retch, she threw up just as the spinning came to an abrupt stop. Gravity decided to do its job, and Wan Mimi watched as the mess she’d just expelled drifted right past her face.
She didn’t hear the splatter of vomit hitting the ground, though. Instead, what she heard was the angry shouting of people far off in the distance.
“Ahhh! What is this disgusting stuff?!”
“Ugh, it looks like… chunks of meat?”
“Wait… chunks of meat? Why is it sour?”
“Gross! Who did this? Who? Don’t even think about pretending it wasn’t you! Get out here and own up to it!”
Wan Mimi wanted to burst out laughing, but before she could, a sharp pain wrenched through her body.
A moment later, just after she had landed back onto the altar, Wan Mimi found herself flying again.
This was the second time Wan Mimi had been airborne-not counting the car accident. But honestly? She had to admit, the car crash had been way less nauseating than this.
So dizzy!
In the Heaven Realm
The Flame Spirit King had just left Yaochi1 after receiving orders from the Jade Emperor: descend to the mortal world and sabotage the White Lion Divine Clan’s offering ceremony.
For nearly a century now, the White Lion Divine Clan had been trying to break free from the authority of the Heaven Realm, aiming to establish their independence and rise to dominance. Today, they had captured the Millennium Spirit Fox and were preparing to present her to the Lion King in order to greatly enhance his power. If they succeeded, the Lion King’s opposition against the Heaven Realm would escalate to the point where they might no longer be able to control him. Even now, the White Lion Divine Clan posed a formidable threat that the Heaven Realm was becoming increasingly wary of. If the Lion King and the Millennium Spirit Fox were truly united, the resulting surge in power would make finding someone capable of defeating him nearly impossible.
Thus, the Flame Spirit King swore to stop the offering ceremony at all costs. Failure was not an option-no matter what.
Concealing his presence carefully, the Flame Spirit King hid himself among a crowd of White Lion Divine Clan members, choosing a discreet spot in the back to wait for the right moment.
Suddenly, the crowd in front of him erupted into chaos. Curious, the Flame Spirit King sharpened his gaze to see what was going on. To his surprise, the Millennium Spirit Fox had somehow escaped the control of the Elder White Lion and was now flying on her own. The crowd, confused and unsure of what was happening, began shouting loudly in disarray.
The Flame Spirit King, however, wasn’t confused. He knew exactly what had happened.
After all, the fox’s supposed “escape” was his doing.
